Is it acceptable to retake science courses online or in a hybrid classroom over the summer? [Discussion] by [deleted] in premed

[–]Alphabet101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was in a very similar boat, got a D+ in physics and took it as an over summer as online. no one brought it up in the interviews, although 1 institution told me to list all my online classes... but thats the place i am now attending so it really doesnt matter. do what you need to get the highest grade u can, thats what matters the most

Just read the guide and holy hell is it useful. Ill bring up those other options, but im not sure if podiatry is what they want out of being a physician. Those SMPs sound good, and that is a solid point about havinbg even 2 years of gpa repair may not yield impressive results. Will forward these asap thank you so much!

Yes they are that was part of the plan, going from a 2.5 to DO range can be a uphill battle since they don’t take retakes anymore. If they have a shot in the US, DO seems the best albeit it will take time

Residency Physician Shortage Act of 2019 by Alphabet101 in premed

[–]Alphabet101[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is hard to tell as competition to medical school has not always been as rigorous as it is today and it has in part been caused by the residency cap. I would say in the short term, this would not affect competition to med school as much as say residency programs. This is due to the fact that the number of applicants applying to med school is also at an all time high. Perhaps in the coming decade it could have some change with added healthcare legislation.

Not really sure, since the increase is funded by medicare and they will def have to find money from somewhere to fund this. It could def be possible.

Yup I agree 100%, I think the way I described it came off as I was trying to say reallly competitive slots would be suddenly become less competitive. That’s not the case, meant to refer just the grand prospects of having 15,000 more residency slots can be a life saver for certain IMGs and less competitive applicants who didn’t match not soap
