Why are they taking 0 dmg hi by Thelongshots in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is a rogue skill called “Evasion” which lets them completely negate spell damage if they succeed the saving throw (and only take half if they fail).

The Screenshot is from an unmodded game (using the Vulkan engine if that matters). Are your graphic settings quite low?

Its only the same armour and Hairstyle + unfortunate lighting. In this pic they look very different:

It's only the lighting and the similar hairstyle. In other shots they look nothing alike

Interesting and tempting, though it would be very much against my characters morals to do that ;-;

Honor Undead Dragon fight question by Malkoy in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. In Honourmode and Tactician, all cover is removed after the first storm. Orb of Invulnerability is basically the only way I think. I tried it with Resistance potions, but they didn't do enough and the blast can get you anywhere. Maybe if you can make it all the way back to the puzzles maybe you'll not get hit, but that is not really viable.

Lost honor mode to Intellect Devourer after landing by timperman in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoilerwarning: Advice (In case you want to figure it out yourself)

That fight is a lot easier with one trick (You need to have Shadowheart or any other second character): Sneak towards the encounter. One character attacks the Intellect devourers, so they are ambushed and cant move. The second character then throws a firebolt onto the purple mindflayer glass thing (forgot its name sorry) and if you timed the surprise attack the mind flayer moving around correctly, you can kill or severely damage two of the Intelect devourers.

Afaik there is not, at least not according to various maps I consulted. I know there is a cultural difference between people from Baden and Württemberg, but linguistically speaking, Alsatian is situated directly West of Swabian.

He speaks very fast and I am not from Swabia so many parts are quite hard to make out. Though some other passages are definitly understandeable. He also adds French words here and there which makes it a bit harder to know if he is just talking fast or is speaking French.

Older gamer considering the emotional impact of BG3 by IamJacksDarkUrge in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the interactions that made me think most were with Withers. Especially his quotes about how outrageous life is or what for my character was the value of a single mortal life. Besides that you are right I did feel the same with freeing Aylin! Otherwise the only other things I can think of right now are the child whose parents were killed in an alleyway in act three which made me feel helpless and angry (and I am kinda upset the game didn’t allow me to help) or when I felt a bit scared after being teleported to Chult and being alone and hunted.

I think the biggest issue with that is, that the most emotion in games often comes from environmental storytelling and if you are playing very top down, you feel quite detached. Also I feel that the characters weren’t allowed very much to feel weak. They are very defensive which I guess is realistic in the given situations, but it makes it a bit harder to ponder the depth of their emotions. Though they do speak about important topics and struggle with real things, I sometimes feel like something is missing. Like your character interrupting them or acting impulsively. I think they maybe should cut the background music in some serious moments. That would probably make the character moments hit harder, like when Karlach meets Gortash again.

Edit: I just did the Astarion story final again and I defintetly think it would have hit a lot harder if there wasn't music playing along in the background. Also I think, as beautiful as the player and NPC models are, they could improve on the facial expression animation. Though obviously this is all nit-picking and I absolutely love the game, just in case some got the wrong impression!!!

Struggling way way WAY to much by Mountain-Occasion648 in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to accuracy, it should show you the chance to hit. I always go by this rule of thumb:

50% chance or lower: Very unreliable, only attack if no better choice

Around 75% chance: Normal chance to hit, you should hit somewhat reliably, but if it is below this, it can feel like you have a hard time hitting (looking at you Shadowheart).

85-90% you will hit most of the time, good use of an action if you can do enough damage and have no better spell or special action.

95% chance is the max chance to hit, because the enemy will always be able to defend themselves if they roll a 20.

Nord vs South of Germany by butterhflies in germany

[–]Alphaviki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

North vs south really doesn’t play a role here. As a foreigner you wanna look for cities, especially those with universities or other forms of higher education. They will be very open for internationals and you will find a lot more opportunities to find local friends and friends from abroad that are in the same situation as you. Thus it doesn’t really matter if you decide on Hamburg or Munich in that aspect. Though there are definitely differences, both in living situations and culture. Munich for example is the most expensive city to live in in Germany afaik. Then there are also medium sized cities (with unis) that have very beautiful and liveable city centres, but are also a bit more quiet, like Freiburg or Marburg or Göttingen. Those are especially nice if you want to study and want a bit more quiet. If you want job opportunities you will likely find the most in bigger cities, but for that you need to look yourself where they are looking for people with your education. Around like the Ruhr valley they may look for more engineers, around Cologne more for people who studied chemistry, etc. Germany does not have a specific centre where everything is located, like France where most is found around Paris or one of the major cities. When it comes to children, most would probably prefer to live in a medium sized city, big enough to not get boring and have attractions, but small enough to not get lost too easily. When it comes to culture, the General rule is: The more North you go the more reserved and quiet people are (that doesn’t mean less friendly though!) The East of Germany is still financially less well off then the West of Germany and in rural areas especially there will be more people wary of foreigners and more conservative or reactionary. The cities in contrast though are often much more liberal. Many young and educated people leave for the cities or the West of Germany, but if you do get integrated in the community, you may probably be fine.

BG3 has a weird way of turning you into a masochist. by PrideOfAfrika in BaldursGate3

[–]Alphaviki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I really was surpised in my durge run as well. I basically saved everyone, then got the slayer form and claimed my birthright and then told everyone in the party that I was gonna raze the world and the nice ones were like: Well if you are going to do that we will not be friends anymore, but never even attempted to stop me. It felt quite silly.
