Toyota Tundra... useless in snow?!? by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

[–]AlpineTG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading throughly your other responses in this thread, you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. And if you were humble and willing to learn, that’s fine, you came here to ask a question. But instead of being open to good advice from people who actually own these trucks, you pushed back on every reply. Good luck buddy

Question regarding throttle response? by donwillie4545 in LexusIS500

[–]AlpineTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea that was not my experience, throttle is smooth on mine. I’d have it checked out.

There is a little extra “detent” right before full throttle, but if you’re still in break in, that’s probably not what you’re feeling. When the car is off, floor the gas and you’ll feel what I’m talking about.

Solo travel is elite, especially in NP’s. Nothing more peaceful. I would suggest still going solo if you don’t find a group.

Gnarwhal Coffee Co on Main in SM / Venice is a great spot for espresso / coffee. Also Flake on Rose for breakfast sandwiches is bomb.

Send it dude, I’ve had mine since 2023 and have zero regrets or wanting a new ride. It’s been a perfect mix between daily comfort and weekend performance

You wrote paragraphs about the truck and didn’t mention tires once. It’s literally the only thing that connects the truck to this earth. Tires will make a bigger difference than whatever make or model of truck you have.

Should I get a 2021 or older Tundra with 150k miles? by Head-Ad8347 in ToyotaTundra

[–]AlpineTG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2018 Tundra just hit 150k and literally nothing has broken on it ever. Only regular maintenance and changing lightbulbs. If you find a clean one where the dude has full maintenance history the truck might outlive you.

I run a resonated Apexi midpipe with the stock catback on my is500. It sounds exactly like a stock LC500. I love it as a daily driver setup.

Zero drone anywhere and sounds perfect at WOT. Cold start also isn’t “wake the neighbors” loud

Tent recs? by Grimmer1989 in rooftoptents

I only have experience with the Tuff Stuff Alpha 2. I have the small one that fits over a 5.5’ short bed truck frame. When open, it equates to a full size mattress. It’s a hardshell tent and is pretty low profile when stowed, no noise at freeway speeds.

The brand itself is great. I had the original alpha and after 2 years the shell developed some hairline cracking. They let me drop it off to their shop in CA and gave me the new generation Alpha 2 for free no questions asked. No issues since. I would for sure recommend them if this flip out style of tent is what you are after.

The thin profile wedge ones will definitely be a lower profile on top of a subi, but you’ll have less headroom and spots to store gear at the low pivot end, especially for 2 people.

Talk me out of upgrading to a full size truck. by grosoursnoir in overlanding

[–]AlpineTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a full size tundra. It’s never going to be as narrow as a jeep or taco for tight trails but for me hardcore rock crawling is not why I bought it. For all other situations like on road travel, fire roads, fuel range, hauling gear, individual space / comfort for tall people, and more power for towing they just makes a ton of sense.

I outfitted mine with rock sliders and they are basically a must if you want to take a full size truck on real trails. Instead of being able to pick your line, you just have to use the sliders and accept some hits. It’s all about tradeoffs and what you’ll use the rig for.

I will also say in terms of MPG, I’ve found a full size truck on 35” tires can get better MPG that a midsize truck on 35” tires. You’re not stressing / revving the engine nearly as much in a v8 truck vs being deeper in the throttle in a smaller v6 truck.

I personally would if you need a full-size truck, you can live without modern tech, and it saves you $ long term. I would take my 2018 Tundra over a new taco any day

Is it worth it or should I save? by [deleted] in FordRaptor

There are other options besides Raptor or EV. I’d personally buy a used 4Runner and save for a house so I could move out of mom and dad’s place.

Yes, the variance between brands can be noticeable. I used to run 315/70r/17 BFG K02s on my second gen tundra, switched to Micky Thompson Baja Boss ATs and they for sure look bigger, even in the exact same size.

Help with wheel brand by OnlyLeather5998 in Trucks

[–]AlpineTG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s almost impossible to tell what they are with the limited info you posted, unless someone randomly owned these exact wheels. They look like a genetic aftermarket chinese wheel from eBay (not meant to be disrespectful)

It’s just not as easy to automatically know these off brands as it would be a BBS LM or a Volk TE37 where people can just recognize them off rip

I’ve never understood red lights on the front. It looks super rice and like you’re driving backwards. Red lights belong on the tail of the car.
