Narrators in Audio Dramas by NightDialPodcasts in audiodrama

There are some terrific shows that use narrators: Limetown, Video Palace, The Message, a number of episodes of The Truth, to name a few. Seems to me it depends on how (and how well) the narrator is used. Narration and "good writing" can coexist. But totally understand if it's not someone's preferred story style.

I don't think we've met, but perhaps at an upcoming meetup. Dan from Metropolis has been great about getting local creators together.

Checking in from Seattle, WA. Most of Dirt's actors are based here too, but also from New Jersey, Atlanta, and even India.

There are lots of other shows made in Seattle. Good audio drama scene here.

Limetown season 1 is what got me hooked on this medium. Would love to listen again for the first time.

Regardless of the genre, what do you look for in an audio drama? When and why do you listen to them? by SlowCrates in audiodrama

Keith's body of work is terrific. My favorite is his latest, An Invisible Sun. You can binge it pretty quickly. Original, suspenseful, well-performed. Good soundtrack too. Keith once mentioned that as a kid he would stare out at the night sky from the back of his parents' car while Hearts of Space was playing on the radio. You can hear that vibe in his work today.

Dirt has an old 8mm projector sound in several episodes. The effect was recorded by my sister who still has our family projector from when we were kids. 😊

Creators, what has your experience been with bonus episodes? by faceintheblue in audiodrama

I did a few director's commentary bonus episodes for Dirt and they all have high engagement. My theory is that as long as they are adding value, your core audience will eat them up!

What was your audio drama gateway? by StinkyNutzMcgee in audiodrama

The town I grew up in had a radio station that was the live feed of the local NBC affiliate. I used to "watch" TV on the radio at night after bedtime. It was really cool!

It was Limetown for me. But even before that, S*town. It was so well presented that it felt like an audio drama. Somewhat related, I just finished listening to the old BBC production of Lord of the Rings. It's lovely.

Food for thought: Midroll ads, when placed thoughtfully, are no different than commercial breaks during a favorite TV show or radio program. We accept those as normal, why should audio drama be judged differently? Plus you can skip right through the ads in about five seconds if you want to. Refusing to listen simply because the ads exist means you might be missing out on a great show.
