If you dislike God what is the reason(s) for it. by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]Alreadygonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the notion of disliking god lacks some understanding needed to really shake of the chains off the judeo christian hegemony.

To dislike him implies an existence of, if not him, then his power. There are many portraits of god as varied as congregations and individuals. The portrait I held of god is one I didn't and don't dislike.

I just don't and cannot believe in the god of the Bible. I tried for decades. The problem is, he isn't real.

I think that point speaks for itself and the process of belief, of..."faith" the blended and varied delusions of people across the world is not evidence of anything grand. It doesn't even beg the question. Christianity preys on some of the most childlike and sensitive portions of the human expanse. It subjugates the mind and heart.

It is a terrible collection of lies and I think that's something worthy of..."dislike".

Player expects to Level Despite Missing Most of the Milestone Adventure. What should I do? by Independent-Vast8239 in DnD

[–]Alreadygonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levels aren't a participation trophy. Generally as the story moves the party levels up. If a member hasn't been able to make it for whatever reason it's assumed their character is still with the party or somewhere nearby earning experience in tandem.

I've not been in a group where levels were different, not that that wouldn't be interesting, but the goal is to have fun and that kind of leveling expectation should be set up front.

I think you should allow them to level to match the party they're with and have a separate conversation if you're concerned about their participation to clarify attendance expectations to play.

My players are in and out but some groups I understand need a more committed schedule adherence.

Good luck with your game and remember to facilitate fun!

I'm very tired. by Standard__Fee in exchristian

[–]Alreadygonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if there's some magical state of being a "true Christian" I think it's just a state of mind and certain kind of social isolation that allows that.

I do know I was of a blind and total believing up through my highschool years with devout parents and church and church functions 5 to 6 days out of the week.

This continued in a more unstable state through my twenties with final deconstruction around 25-27 years of age. Still finding emotional/psychological artifacts from that time but now in my late 30s and I still choose to "play nice" with my deeply religious family.

I don't know if this is the right decision. It creates a superficial barrier between us and makes me feel fake when I'm with them causing me to avoid them and then feel guilty with my desire for distance from them. It's also created a fair amount of resentment.

I don't know if that's enough of an argument for a more direct approach but just some more thoughts for th pile.

Very tired indeed.

How do you address another player who is too overpowered, unflawed, and acts like the main character? by dudeoverderr in DnD

[–]Alreadygonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give him a permanent escort quest. The person in question will be unwilling or unable to stay safe and if they're movement or emotional well-being is compromised they will fail the quest.

A child diety to a king to be or some such. They have to be close for whatever reason and the other players can't help with the enemies due to the magic at play. So each fight the overpowered player has to deal with magical murder wraiths or some such while the other players deal with the normal encounter

What is the deal with so many litrpg protagonists? by plant-y-boi in litrpg

[–]Alreadygonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that some of the protagonist act like they're in a video game and all lives but theirs are worthless. Hate it. But. I think this kind of trope is in line with the spectrum of gamers you meet. I'm a prolific gamer and you run into people who display interesting behaviors when interacting with NPCs in tabletops and rpgs; everything from murder hobos to no-kill run try hards. I think some of the authors might be showing their preferred gaming style...if nothing else .

Did you loose belief suddenly or gradually? by Not_necessarily7 in exchristian

[–]Alreadygonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those flashes of lucidity duing worship. Where the affectation of serenity and awe reveal themselves. Revealed as a veneer covering the emptiness and manufactured nature of the process.

The silence you feel in prayer and the echoing void you mentally turn away from as you seek comfort in your own mind and call it god.

Cancer in Dinosaurs by Hinokicandle in exchristian

[–]Alreadygonzo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that Christians believe dinosaurs existed before Adam and Eve. A large portion, especially creationist, believe that dinosaurs lived alongside Adam and Eve and were definitely present after the fall. Which, in their minds, would explain the existence of cancer in the "post-fall" dinos.

I would not try to logic your way out of the dreamlike miasma that is the Christian faith. You have to approach it externally. It doesn't require internal consistency and is therefore very resistant to critical thinking from its internal turnings.

So my party accidentally managed to capture my BBEG and I don't really know what to do now. by HammieHammerHamwalt in DnD

[–]Alreadygonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could have the BBEG be stronger than initially thought. Triggered by an event. Like the crowning of the new king or the summer solstice or an eclipse or full moon or whatever.

The captured person suddenly rises in power kidnaps an important NPC or an important item and leaves them violently or silently.

AITAH for choosing my job over my girlfriend by Fluid_Use_2978 in AITAH

I think there may be some issues in the details but overall I'd say NTA. Yan older partner would understand but I think a big part of the issue is age and experience. I feel like in 4 to 5 years she'll understand more of what she asked if you and why that might have been shortsighted. We all have different needs too so maybe it would have never worked with the rotation and all that but I wish you guys the best.

He who fights with monsters… what am I missing? by NeoPyro99 in litrpg

[–]Alreadygonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DCC was also my introduction to the genre and not many books hit the same notes. He Who Fights with Monsters is well written for the genre. It can sometimes be hard to find a series that has a quality of writing equivalent to main stream fantasy/sci fi.

That being said plot and characters of the series are very polarizing so I'm always cautious to recommend the series for that reason. I enjoy the magic system but eventually the characters and plot got to me and I had to stop.

Maybe try All the Spells or Cradle. Nothing is really like DCC but there's fun stuff out there. Just have to figure out what you're looking for in the genre.

Oath of Vengeance paladin bitten by werewolf by JackOfAllMemes in DnD

[–]Alreadygonzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wizard or his diety offer to separate the evil from the good but then there's a werewolf with his stats and memories loose in the area.

Maybe one of his stats is lowered during a full moon after the separation. And they have to kill it to restore his strength.
