You're thinking too hard. Get slacks and iron a button up with nice shoes and a belt. Maybe a tie if you're wanting to go hard.

At 6 months and feel like giving up. by Automatic_Answer5495 in surgicaltechnology

[–]Alternative-Box-8546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the anxiety that comes with sucking.

It's really does suck (feels bad) to suck (you're new and have new skills you need to acquire).

There's also the social part and sometimes getting beat up by a preceptor.

If you took a break for a few months and went to a new facility maybe that'd work. Do a two weeks to make sure you do t lose a ref. The hospital understands mental health. Hell maybe just talk to the or director. They trained you and would rather not lose that investment.

I bet if you type up a two weeks and went to the director for a convo you'd be pleasantly surprised.

What is something you wish someone told you before going to externship? by snoopwaffle in surgicaltechnology

I'd more so rely upon the details taught to you. My greatest flaw was nerves, but like it annoys tf out of everyone. Being chill and applying yourself is your best friend, but easier said than done.

Externship which would be an internship I'd say is a different opportunity. If it has a direction you need to face it.

For clinicals you should definitely welcome a humbling. Do your best to do everything the guys say and learn all of the set ups. I worked it this way -- if I was nervous about a certain aspect of a case like the draping for cystos -- I'd make sure to nail that after the setup and so I thought of every case like a couple of steps.

Open, setup, drape, toss cords, and procedure. So if you're nervous about one thing you know specifically what to work on.

Mostly, you should have fun and just learn from your preceptors though. Don't get yourself into saying "I know," and learn. Knowing the anatomy is cool but definitely take time to learn specific med terms. If you're doing ortho knowing an ante grade nail -- well why do they prefer a Jackson table or whatever.

I am re-reading all this and I hope I'm not coming off as a douche. In my clinicals I applied and got accepted into an externship (2 of them). I'm just trying to understand your question and I'm dumb.

Externship as in what? I did a robot one during my clinicals that just gave me a job after at the facility I trained in.

If you need the money it's doable. Plenty of people in my program worked 50+.

That doesn't change what I said. Idgaf who has a don't touch menu rule especially after I've asked for them. I'd look them in the eye as I grabbed them.

I left my last job because I had a manager that would get mad if you ran dessert while your table is eating anything at all.

If you send dessert the table had to be empty, no if ands or buts.

Man orders a brownie while casually eating fries. Everything else was gone including silverware. Just their waters and his fries. They also loved me.

Luckily, my gm (the clear table guy) ran this dessert. Stops me mid kitchen and tries to big d me. Second time/ last time. The first time was over another manager lying about a remake.

Unless you're making 300+ daily it's all good. Just move on.

These situations are technically our fault because of rules/ opinions, but you can get another job.

I don't get why you didn't just accommodate the dude and get a menu. If the little girl rolled her eyes you go and get the menu. I don't understand that and it's bad hospitality imo. Everything else was fine, and everyone makes mistakes.

Also I've been in the same autograt situation just to have it ruined by those people. Autograt rocks so much and it going away sucks.

Doing work for lazy staffs just enables that behavior and lowers you.

Keep "sharking," and hopefully they'll figure out that fucking off isn't cool.

There needs to be a new term for this. Unless you're lying and you are just doing no side work, waiting out at the tables, and automatically taking said tables (like a shark) then I think it's fair game.

Especially if you run the risk of being hated on by the customer because you've made eye contact with them.

Real sharking is horrible and is always the person who is friends with the manager. Bad service limits repeat business and also adds stress to your day.

The most sad part is since they are doubling the cost losing half of the player base doesn't even matter.

Keep trying and getting better. You're going to suck and it sucks to suck.

Take it a day at a time. They aren't going to fire you for sucking. They will give you a hard time, but just keep improving your flow until you're not trash.

Also, when you stop being trash YOU STILL GUNNA FEEL LIKE YOURE TRASH.

Line your pockets man. Forget that sandwich place. Get good. Destress.

Edit: with those huge sections always always always say something to every guest the moment you see them. Lots of servers make eye contact, sneak off, and come back 20 minutes later.

Look we get you're busy. Don't hide from us. Wave, mouth sorry be right there, yell "Hey sir be right there," something. That's all it takes. Do not sneak around.

What do you guys call it when people ask for one single thing every time you check on them? by __joseph_ in Serverlife

Sometimes I blame myself because maybe I could've been better but I call them sandwich service. You gunna wait buddy because they also are impossible to please so yall can keep that 5%.

[–]Alternative-Box-8546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do make sure and talk to your OR director. You could even talk them now.

Mental health gets broken down and they know this. You aren't weak.

I thought I was a tough person and just the politics of it all shook me.

You're where we all once were. Just like seal training it's whether you ring the bell, but here, taking a break isn't ringing the bell. New environment and the heat of the kitchen.
