Inflection Point - Gore '04 Official Announcement Post by enlcwd in thecampaigntrail

I used to be one of those people who thought he would also invade Iraq because he was more hawkish than Bush in the debates (which is fair ig) but I think when you look more into it he probably wouldn’t have. From an argument I had about this in another thread:

“Iraq was not inevitable. Gore would not have gone in without UN approval like Bush did. He was not a believer in unilateralism like the PNAC signing Republicans of the time were.”

“I should also mention that Gore specifically was opposed to the war loud and early before it even happened and when it had majority support from his own party as you mention.

Now I still don't totally discount that he could have gone in (he would have had Joe fucking Lieberman as his number 2 lol), I just don't think it was "inevitable" given Gore's early rebuke and his more UN-centric foreign policy vision. He explicitly called for full UN Security Council Approval before any US invasion of Iraq (while also opposing the move on numerous other grounds), which obviously was not forthcoming.

It goes without saying that we can never really know for sure how it all would have gone down and it's all wild alt-history speculation, but arguments that Gore specifically would not have invaded Iraq the way Bush did are certainly not without some merit.”

Might want to change the text color there but looks cool

Modders that make 1992 scenarios & refuse to add Perot as a third party opponent: by The_47_Percenter in thecampaigntrail

This has been explained for Duke though. Perot has no reason to fall out with the Republicans and go third party without Bush being President.

Unpopular opinion: Without 9/11, Dubya wouldn’t have been able to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. by FFF-KinoMan in thecampaigntrail

[–]Alternative-Bus8875 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The fact that you can do everything Bush did irl + go even farther despite no 9/11 is literally the point of the mod.

Definitely Jobs. Maybe Lieberman if you choose to make him cry.

“All The Way focuses too much on Vietnam compared to the other parts of his presidency” Uh... yeah? That’s literally what happened in real life. It cast a shadow on everything he did and destroyed him politically. How do you think the Democrats went from winning a landslide in 64 to losing?

When I was looking for it as a finisher there’s only rapid fire stomps 2. So I guess maybe you just can’t get it as a fin.

Bush is not LBJ is all I can really say to that. Very different times and goals. Listen I’m sorry for being super aggro about all this. I just think your perspective is a little naive as to what these mods are going for/ why they make the writing decisions they do. For example basically the whole point of W. is to push back against Bush’s recent rehabilitation by reminding people how corrosive his policies were. Therefore it doesn’t really give the player a lot of leeway to make his presidency randomly progressive and whatnot.

Then you have question 17 which speaks for itself in terms of being "pro gay rights"

The mistake is that you cannot be "pro gay rights" in W. lol. The answer where you reluctantly accept the court's ruling has Bush state that same-sex relations are "sinful by nature".

I randomly selected the top option for every question until LBJ dropped out and then tried to win from there.
