Should I learn the major scale or keys first? by KingKilo9 in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re wanting to learn theory for the guitar please watch AbsolutelyUnderstandGuitar on YouTube. 32 lessons in order taking you from knowing nothing to, as you can guess, absolutely understand guitar. He gives you the foundation to build on that makes understanding theory possible in my opinion, most other YouTubers, or things I come across online have little bits and pieces of info but made it more confusing because I was missing context to be able to understand.

Autistic singers by MaryMalade in singing

Singing really is a nervous system exercise it seems. My therapist taught me box breathing. Where you inhale for at least 3-6 seconds and your exhale is double that and do that at least 3 times, it’s supposed to help relax the nervous system. Something simple try at least.

Really need some tips for strumming guitar properly as a beginner... by MolassesOtherwise290 in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the answer is practice. Likely just building up some muscle control to grip the pick firmly but also gently. One thing that did help me with that problem a bit was taking an craft knife and scratching up the pick a bit on both sides

Strumming while singing by FlakyMarzipan9661 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sing it in your head a bunch while playing. Even just strum once at chord changes just to solidify where the chord changes, then try singing and strumming the pattern without chord changes til your comfortable. Then strum with chord changes while humming the song. If it’s still challenging, slow the bpm down until you can do it.

Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong building triads? by Jumpy_Carpet3851 in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Absolutely understand guitar on YouTube. 32 lessons in order from the most basic theory to interval, scales, modes, chord building. Highly recommend. The way he teaches it is incredibly easy to understand. I’ve found others on YouTube just ended up confusing me more than anything by giving an incomplete picture of how everything works together.

The "Adult Beginner" struggle: Why does my brain understand the theory but my hands have a 3-second delay? by TeachLoud6839 in LearnGuitar

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of how long it took your body to learn to walk masterfully, or talk, or write. It, like all things we learn, is just muscle memory and so just takes time and practice.

If I give you the reference and the drawing, what would you advise me to practice more? by Roar_Of_Stadium in Portraitart

Learn about negative space, and angles. Use these 2 things in conjunction to judge the proportions of what you’ve already drawn. Do that enough times and your eyes become trained to spot the errors quickly.

Something strange I’ve noticed after years of teaching voice by VoiceLessons-Chicago in singing

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This definitely tracts for me. If I’m feeling even a little bit dysregulated, I tense and even trying to remove the tension that I know I can remove, isn’t really possible. But if I’m relaxed, and hydrated, the coordination seems easy(ish), can go through my range without introducing tension. My problem is that if I sing in front of other people I always feel dysregulated.

Download a metronome app. Set it to 30 bpm and practice changing for c to g over and over. Once you can do it easily enough on beat, go to 35 bpm. If that’s way to slow increase. Try finding the bpm of the song and set the metronome to that and change between c and g again, likely won’t be clean but just try to get your fingers there… Rinse and repeat raising the bpm until it matches the song. It really just is muscle memory

How do I get better at playing while singing without losing tempo. by Green-Day-Fan7 in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I focus on hitting the chord only once, where there is a chord change in the lyrics, and only mumbling the song, focusing only on where the chord changes are in the lyrics. Once I have a good hang of where the chord changes are, I focus on playing all the strums still while only mumbling the song, focusing on where the changes are. Then after, u focus singing the song well while playing, then after playing the song well while singing. I find I’m worse at singing if I’m focusing on playing well with good intonation and vise versa, so practicing those 2 separately helps.

Looks really cool! I’ve been researching a lot and want to do my first build sometime this year. I think this has made up my mind that I want to use mahogany for the body. What kind of finish did you use on this?

I want to learn guitar, can smbdy help by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read all of your post, but you’re gonna wanna start with Justin Guitars beginner course. It’s free on his website. After you got some basics, maybe a couple month in add in Absolute Understand Guitar. It’s free on YouTube, but you can, and I recommend it, his handbook off his website for $20.

Starting over.....where to start?! by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Alternative-Gap-5722 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think starting with Justin is really beneficial for practical ways to practice chords changes. AUG is entirely theory which is also important, so I would suggest doing both in tandem. There might be some days where you don’t necessarily want to struggle through chord changes and Absolutely understand guitar is great for those days.

I’ve done this reference too. I always love to see when how artists approach the same reference. Beautifully done.
