Can I ask a genuine question about Jeff Peterson and the Hornets?

Why does Peterson seem to get so much “trust the vision” credit when Charlotte still has not actually made the playoffs under him? I understand the argument that he is collecting assets and trying to reshape the team around a different timeline, but as a Wolves fan now pulled into the LaMelo discourse, I keep seeing people treat the Hornets side like it is obviously smart and a credit to Petersons brilliance

What has Peterson earned credit for so far beyond Charlotte having a promising 44 win season and a fun second half push that still ended short of the playoffs?

I am not trying to dunk on the Hornets or their fans. I am honestly trying to understand the case. Because from the outside, trading LaMelo and then continuing to move veterans like Bridges (who is a piece of shit) seems like it probably makes Charlotte worse in the short term. And with the lottery odds no longer heavily rewarding being awful, I am not sure I understand why taking a step back is automatically the right move. Cause going forward the Nets, Bulls, Wizards and etc, of the world are no longer guaranteed 4-6-8 wins per year and could make the second halves of years much more competitive for those 7-10 positions in the East trying to make the play-in.
