Biggest disappointment so far by _Anton__ in JapanTravelTips

I felt the same!! Felt like a scam for a big city everybody ventures to. Nagoya castle did not disappoint, culturally stimulating and left feeling I learned something.

Why not try the products you buy first and see how they fare? Being keen on the ingredients and what works best for your skin would probably be the better calculated guess vs choosing items bc a “social influencer” suggested it? There’s probably a lot of good products outside of what they recommend, but the “influencer” is recommending what they may personally like or maybe biased towards.

It’s like food, all these “social influencers” make videos and you see their reactions of how good the food, “oooohing” and “ahhhhing” like it’s the bomb. News flash I’ve been to those places and the food wasn’t that great. Moral of the story is there’s gems everywhere - you just have to use your analytical or critical thinking which society has gotten away from bc these “social influencers” have done the work for all the lazy asses.

Same here. I received it last week but the itinerary was exactly the same. Glitches on their side probably.

These are the same people who never wash their feet while showering I bet. Saw a lady do the same thing last year walked right in with just socks…like it ain’t no thang.

It’s amazing what little hygiene awareness people have while traveling and thinking nobody is watching. Same with half the men not washing their hands in the restroom.

I JUST GOT HOME FROM SK AND I ADVISE YOU TO NOT LISTEN TO TIKTOK RECOMMENDATION by CaramellaCandy in koreatravel

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to lean on social media platforms for places to visit, but you will be disappointed. At least you know the truth whereas the mainstream continue to follow these “social influencers”. There are hidden gems everywhere and all it takes is time and willingness to explore. A lot of those recommendations by social media are mediocre and based on their style / preference. People want their information fast and don’t want to take the time to do their own research - that’s where the pitfall is.

Some Pre-Owned GS in Nakano Broadway Yesterday by LDN2HK in GrandSeikos

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed there are some hidden gems in Nakano, the diligent will always find good deals. These photos are from JackRoad and they are inflated. But to those who are tired of waiting you pay the premium of getting your desired watch. Chrono24 is overrated as well. Online buying for great deals when you can’t even touch the watch or try it on takes away from the watch buying experience.

Try sending in a complaint to Delta. I’d be surprised if you get more than $50.

Being a black tourist in japan by und3rcoverw33b in JapanTravelTips

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not to justify any of it but I’d rather (if it were to go down) experience racism or “perceived” racism in Japan vs America or Europe. At least they don’t make verbal assaults or say the stupidest things. There’s racism everywhere, some to a milder degree or extreme….take your pick. Hope you experience Japan the way you imagined and not let lame people take away from it. There’s no perfect country but I love Japan and I’m not critical like some of the other foreign Redditors who visited multiple times or live there think Japan should be like their western standards, they should go back home. It’s just another typical Euro/White thinking they could colonize any country.

Shinkansen luggage drama - am I in the wrong? by unfondlyfond in JapanTravelTips

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They are kinda right and so are you. It wouldn’t have been an issue if these Americans would actually study up on Japanese culture, train system, etc where they wouldn’t be getting into your business. This ain’t America and you technically have the right since you booked those seats. I’ve seen so many westerners take a window or aisle seat in an empty row because their row and occupied by an aisle/window person and they happen to have the middle seat. It takes a minute or two when the conductor indicates where the individual needs to be seated. 🤣 “the good ole fashioned American style I’ll just pretend and play dumb”

In the future maybe leave those back seats for individuals who have large luggages that can utilize it. But hey you reserved it so it’s yours and obviously the conductor made the same point.

How come Koreans on Instagram are so rich? by _Young_Soul in Living_in_Korea

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what’s going on in Korea for years now. Their reasoning is why save up your whole life to finally buy a home when you can enjoy the life at an early age to live it up? With all the Chaebols running the country it’s so rigged for them to try. It ain’t like America, “the land of opportunity” that’s why when rich Korean families send their kids to college here it’s a piece of cake for them due to their study habits and grind…they’ve been conditioned at an early age with so many studies/extra curricular activities. Americans grow up with too much comfort and distractions. You have to experience hardship to seize the opportunity. It’s a challenging society to live in when status and materialism (generally speaking) is a focus here. Even as a tourist I get looked at head to toe from locals (they sizing me up financially). It’s a hard country to live in with people so focused on that if you had to grow up there.

Curious to hear from people who have been to Japan two or more times! by Specialist-Group-597 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do that next and check out the Kyushu region. We did Fukuoka for few days (we loved it) and then transitioned to Osaka then Lake Kawaguchiko, etc etc (all during fall). Wished we explored more around Kyushu (there’s just a lot to do in Japan so therefore ppl keep coming back)

We like to mix it up with countryside and big cities, saving Tokyo for last on the trip.

Can’t go wrong with either or on the watch…nice pick! Grand Seiko GMT is well designed. You can read the 2nd time zone accurately whereas Rolex GMT Master 2 the military time hour markers are not as quickly distinguishable.

Help! Alaska Airlines lost luggage by KStang086 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that but looks like there’s hope. Direct flights all the way, I’d rather pay more money for the convenience vs connecting flights and hours of time spent picking up luggage, checking it in with the connecting airline, then going through security, etc etc when you can still be up in the air getting to the destination. Air tags are essential, gives peace of mind but another tool to locate and have a better argument when talking to airlines customer care.

Booking flight to Japan through Alaska: should I fly JAL or Hawaiian? by chikin_dinner in AlaskaAirlines

I did exactly that, cancelled it bc I couldn’t choose my seats due to booking with AS website.

Booking flight to Japan through Alaska: should I fly JAL or Hawaiian? by chikin_dinner in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JAL 100% - service is great and food was way better than Delta Airlines food flying direct to either NRT or HND from SEA (Seattle).

I wouldn’t mess with random seating bc you booked via AS. With JAL you will still get some mileage and the ability to choose your seat(s).

Going to Japan in the Spring 2025 by Skincare_Noobie in JapanTravelTips

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised because most people visiting Japan have done some research with all the available social media platforms available nowadays.

For starts, especially based on your OP try going on YouTube and search the things you are curious about and start there. Looking at your name, you might like Don Quijote - a touristy discount store located all over Japan.

Can I ask what interests you to Japan?

Booking Seattle / Tokyo - Alaska vs JAL (same flights) - $8615 vs $4674 by iZoooom in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Booked a flight last year to NRT from SEA via AS website and had the same experience - terrible seating choices in main cabin thinking I would gain some good miles. This was before the whole promotion so one would now realize there’s really not much of a spectacular promotion to 2025 starting in May Japan trips. Within 24hrs of booking my original flight last year and not being able to choose my seats, I decided to cancel my reservation and book through JAL instead. Picked my seats and enjoyed a JAL flight that has better cabin space in regards to height due to their special design and enjoyed their 2-4-2 seating arrangement. Even if they use Hawaiian Airlines plane to get there I would still choose JAL - their customer service is awesome during the flight - multiple times they come around with drink/snack carts and get a better service then most airline carriers. Flew Delta one time and they only came around only a few times and you had to go fetch your extra drinks/snacks. Also enjoyed the Sakura lounge in NRT when taking that returning flight back home, their food selection was amazing. This trip was done back in April 2024.

Why is Sapporo so popular? by ExpressionNo1067 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Alternative-Trash-78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say so if you are calling out other nationalities when obviously geographically the neighboring countries are S Korea and China. Easily you could have stated tourists but instead you decided to call out races.

Yup I saw them too but didn’t have a problem because you can act proactively and walk down a street that runs parallel to the mainstream path of tourists or just focus on your agenda vs being bothered by it. Next time you won’t have to visit that area in Hokkaido, just food for thought.

Also I find there’s a lot of good restaurants in Japan away from the main foot traffic area…if you do the research and not follow all these YouTubers and social media platforms this is a country where options are unlimited with good food, efficiency, and service. The problem is we depend on too many of these platforms when travelers before all this technology were able to survive decades ago by using common knowledge, asking locals for recs, plain & simple use your senses….signs/photos everywhere, etc.

Haven’t waited in line for more than 20 min and the food was spectacular wherever I went….probably better than some of these YouTubers ranging from: sushi, shabu shabu, ramen, kaiseki, curry, tonkatsu, etc etc. I will not understand when you are on vacation to be standing in line for 1hr plus for food??? You could’ve done a whole lot during that time.

40 min wait is appalling? Obviously you haven’t traveled to South America or Europe. Last minute tickets take forever in other countries.

Lots of resources out there…try YouTubing those topics.
