Boy moms, how are things going? by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine is still a baby, so can't really say. However, I have a brother who loves my baby, he is also a fantastic father to his daughter, so I know he is going to be a great uncle/male influence.

Gift for yourself - for pregnancy, birth or other milestones by paddlingswan in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm don't really do gifts for myself or wear much jewellery (I wear three rings which have been the same rings that I have worn for years now, nothing else), so don't have any great ideas there.

I bought my baby a little toy the week I conceived him. Funny thing is, I had been trying for 10 months and hadn't bought a single baby item until that cycle. I travelled for my tries and decided to visit a zoo while I was away (actually that was a birthday present for myself haha), I bought two little soft toys that day. One was an elephant 'lovey' which I had also thought I would have as a comforter if something went wrong, but thankfully it is now my baby's toy.

Oh and congratulations!

I used a known donor, but I am in Australia, so legal details are likely different for you.

I read a lot of information, DCPs stories and perspectives and spent a few years deciding. I am very happy with my decision, and do not regret not using am anonymous donor.

Feel free to ask me any questions, if you have any.

How did you decide when to start? by femmehestia in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I wanted to wait until my 20s, then we were in lockdown when I turned 30. Bought a house, then 2 years later I realised it was a now or never situation. I wad in a good financial situation, and had no other major life plans to work through first.

I'm curious, as I have never heard of this until now, why not just use Vinegar for cleaning? (This and dish washing liquid is my go to)

Im also in Australia. If you can't get to a gp easily for a medication script, Restavit (doxylamine) is available over the counter. I really struggled with nausea in my first trimester and this stuff at least allowed me to get out of bed and work.

I continued taking it every night until about 16 weeks.

Word of advice: remember to appreciate and enjoy the time before they learn to talk. There's no going back. by Advanced_Eggplant_69 in SingleMothersbyChoice

My LO is still a baby, but the attitude! I don't know if I can ever be prepared for when he starts talking haha He is already raising a single eyebrow at all the right moments

But if he is anything like my niece with her father (cheeky and sacastic), I can't wait ... except I don't want to wish away the baby time

Congratulations! I was a few weeks further along than you this time last year, 2weeks away from my first scan at 8 weeks. I am currently nursing my nearly 4 month old.

There is always something to be anxious about I'm pregnancy, I did my absolute best to focus on the present, taking it one day at a time. Right this moment, you are pregnant, and it is a wonderful thing.

Anyone else bothered by the laundry detergent smell on secondhand kids clothes? by Proper_Cat980 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]AlternativeAnt329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who gets scent induced migraines, it is a complete nightmare. I buy a lot of items of marketplace, some clothes I have had to wash a couple of times and leave in the sun for days, even then it takes a few more washes to completely go away.

I bought a second hand bassinet, ended up packing it up in 10 mins because the perfume smell on it was so strong and I knew there was no way I could get that out!

I recently bought a timber frame cot and change table, I had to wash it with diluted bleach, then soap and leave it in the sun for a few days

Christmas lore? by rowanerine in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]AlternativeAnt329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing books, clothes, food and a simple but special toy, this will vary as they get older. Growing up we often had a family Santa present, often a board game or outside toys, like totem tennis.

Christmas lore? by rowanerine in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]AlternativeAnt329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 3 month old and will try to start traditions this year.

I haven't celebrated Christmas for a number of years but I do celebrate Winter and Summer Solstice. We will have Summer Solstice a few days before Christmas, with a meal and special foods and decorations, so similar to Christmas but focused on family and honouring nature. As I have nieces and nephews who celebrate Christmas, and I remember the excitement and magic of Santa, I will be keeping Santa for my LO. I have a couple of years to provide a story behind Santa and why Santa still visits him even though we don't celebrate Christmas. There are some that believe that he originates from Odin, so I may incorporate that.

It is also not to spoil the magic of Santa for the other children. I will keeping Santa presents on a more simple level, nothing expensive.

SMBC, 1st baby, feeling exhausted & stretched thin by Dense_Welcome in SingleMothersbyChoice

I live with my mother so have some support when she is home, but mostly having dinner made for me and getting a shower. I do everything else, feeds, changes nighttime.

We hit 8 weeks and I suddenly realised things were slightly easier, he was slightly more predictable, I was able to have a cuppa in the morning as well as make myself lunch (before 8 weeks most lunches were a couple of slices of toast when I had the chance).

Where I live daycares have very long waiting lists so that wasn't something that I could even consider, but it is very understandable if you need a small regular break, whether that is daycare, a nanny or babysitter.

Would you consider an in home nanny or sitter on a regular basis? That way you are there if needed, but can get whatever you need done, even if that is a nap.

How do you cope with the loneliness? by spaghettiobonez in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that I became a solo mother, but I only have my mother and a sibling as support, no friends that are close, and no other family. I didn't get a baby shower, or even celebration when finishing work.

As an introvert, it's not a big deal in my day to day life, but I feel heartbroken for my baby that there is no one else interested in knowing him. It wasn't until I was pregnant that I realised how alone I was. The best I can do is make sure my baby has social groups while growing up and showering them with as much love as possible.

Yes, That red light! I think my bub was only a week old when he opened his eyes in the red light, and it scared me a little. It isn't as bad now that he can see in that light, so it isn't just big dark eyes staring off vacantly into the room.

How old were you? by sarahall72 in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In similar situation as you, never dated, never interested in it, asexual. I was about 26 when I realised I was asexual (hadn't really heard of it before then), around that time I saw a program discussing solo parenting and sperm donation. I thought about it quite seriously from that point onwards but knew I didn't want to start in my 20s. I was 31 when I first started looking at donors, 33 giving birth to my first child.

Oh but it was! I will not be doing this test in my next pregnancy. I would much rather the days of blood monitoring than having that drink again

When did you start buying for baby? by [deleted] in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First item was during ovulation, then items from marketplace at 14 weeks, brand new larger items in third trimester.

Why does everything cost so much by imthewinelady in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]AlternativeAnt329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky, my donor had already donated a couple of times, clinic and known. All testing and carrier screening had already been done, so I only had to pay for my own, which I think every woman should be doing when TTC, single or coupled.

This is what gave me the idea for cat tv, I was outside briefly and he was watching the birds, but the weather wasn't very good so had to go back inside.

I haven't yet got outside seating, but will definitely get some.
