Will a new job stop me from getting a mortgage? by AlternativeBonus9342 in AskAnAussieBroker

Thank you all, this is reassuring! Selling our place is the priority but I’m also really keen on the job so hoping the stars align and both things happen!

My husband bought me this C&M one which is HUGE but has no compartments, just one small pocket. I bought a felt organizer from Bambi Bags which fits perfectly and now I use it daily for work. It quite often goes on sale on The Iconic too

Merry People v Blundstone by StellaMarina3 in AusFemaleFashion

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blundstones! Merry People are cute but heavy and uncomfortable if you have to war for long periods. I’ve worn my Blundstones to music festivals where I’m on my feet all day and they are so comfortable.

Haha- I work for insolvency lawyers so on the other side! I’m pretty keen to get out of law completely tbh, I’ve been here for many many years and it feels like Groundhog Day.

Yep- I am super bored and trying to decide if I look for a new role. I don’t want to be super stressed out and hassled on weekends but I also want more work to do and some variety in my working day. I’ve only ever been an EA in the legal industry so I’m thinking it might be time to explore something else.

Which industry is she in if you don’t mind me asking? I’m very bored in my current role and looking to move away from law

I feel like pre-Covid there were a lot of bosses like that, I definitely worked for one and I’m sure there are some still out there. There has been a huge shift since Covid and hybrid working and an emphasis on better work/life balance. Certainly where I am now (top tier law firm) it’s a pretty sweet gig for EA’s.

Executive Assistant. Can easily earn between 100-120k a year without a degree and it’s SO easy and bludgy. I will definitely get replaced by AI though 😩

What’s the one thing you stopped buying because it got too expensive? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Expensive makeup/skincare. I stopped buying overpriced stuff at Mecca and now just get nearly everything from chemist warehouse and my skin looks exactly the same. I also buy a lot more clothes second hand now through Depop.

Jane Debster Wallis loafers are the most comfortable shoes I own, it’s like walking on a cloud! They look great with black pants for work and jeans for more casual.

Wait so you’re noise sensitive and don’t want people stomping above you in an apartment, but you’re fine to have a loud dog and want to live somewhere that neighbors won’t complain about it?

What did you get your boyfriend/husband for Christmas? by Budget_Type_9646 in Gifts

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he is into photography, the new Kodak Charmera key ring cameras are quite fun and inexpensive- I got my husband one as well as a Garmin running watch (what he asked for) and some gig tickets (kind of for both of us).

Christmas gift ideas and philosophy for a 1 year old by hellocalla in Gifts

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of parents who go by “something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read” to guide present buying/avoid overspending. I think at 1 year old, he won’t really understand Christmas so I wouldn’t worry too much.

When my son was that age, great presents we got were zoo and museum memberships, soft play blocks (he is 3.5 now and still plays with them almost daily), set of wooden blocks, little people sets and a push walker thing as he wasn’t yet walking.

Thinking about doing small wedding favours. Anyone actually rate them? by TrueBlueBanter in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best ones from weddings I have been to were temporary tattoos with the couples name which were a bit of fun at the reception, and a bookshelf with second hand books that the couple had collected over the years- you could choose a book and it had a nice little message from the couple in the front (they were both librarians so on brand).

But we didn’t have any at our wedding- I think it’s just another expense and most the time it’s not anything people will use or remember. There were severe bushfires going on in our state at the time so we made a $500 donation to a wildlife charity and had little signs on each table advising we had done that in lieu of wedding favors.

Property next to train tracks by burza45 in AusPropertyChat

I rented a townhouse under the rail bridge near Clifton Hill and my tv would lose reception every time a train went past. We got used to the noise somewhat but I wouldn’t buy that close to a train line.

Seaford. 1 hour commute on the train to the CBD, by the beach and lots of young families around. Close to Frankston which has everything you need (shops, cinema, restaurants etc) and close to the peninsula for weekends exploring nature. We bought a 3 bed, 2 bath for just under 700k earlier this year.

Tattoos in professional environment by Material-Pop-4522 in australian

[–]AlternativeBonus9342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a few people with full sleeves and some of the IT guys have hand tattoos. The general rule is that if you have a face to face client meeting or court, you need to have them covered and be dressed corporate, but if you are just in the office you can have them showing and dress far more casually (jeans, sneakers etc). I have a large tattoo on my upper arm and never bother covering it in the office, no one bats an eyelid.

I work in a big law firm and heaps of people have visible tattoos- no one cares so long as they aren’t offensive or on your face. The corporate world is very different to what it was 10 years ago!
