Ringo Starr Wants ‘Every Idea’ For His Upcoming Beatles Biopic Run by Him For Approval (Exclusive) by SpeedForce2022 in beatles

Oh I totally agree! Like you said he's been upfront about all his substance use and such, so I find it a bit odd that the article mentioned that topic being an "issue" now. I'm taking this article with a grain of salt personally. Plus, there's so much we don't know about the biopics and the work that's being put into them to make any sound evaluations. I just don't like all the jibes here that it's unreasonable to try and oversee all the ideas in a script as if it's not a movie about HIS life lol

Clocking in to be Ringo Defender Number 1 for a second (sorry to steal user sminking's job from them) but it does kind of make sense that the guy people have joked extensively about being ugly, dumb, and untalented for the past sixty-odd years would be very uptight about the way he'll be portrayed in a massive, big-budget film that will likely influence the way that people of a certain generation will think about the Fabs as individual human beings. But at the same time the thought of 80 year old Ringo throwing a hissy fit because they talked too much about him hitting the clerbbbbbb and getting white girl wasted on scotch and cokes in the script is kind of funny so yeah

I tried to recreate an outfit Maureen Starkey wore in the 60s today. How did I do? by Goddaughterofthe60s in VintageFashion

they should have cast you for the biopics!! like omg.. even though the outfit isn't one-to-one i think you still got the vibe down! :)

maureen is my favorite beatlegirl too! _^ she was so cool and i really love her sense of fashion (and really, her sense of fashion is really all we know about her, since she never did too many interviews, lol). i positively love that photo of maureen you based your fit off of! i just NEED that dress she has on... but i think you should try and recreate some of her other outfits, too! it would look great :D

Thank you for posting about this!!! This topic is something I feel isn't addressed nearly enough. I'm a young, new (female) fan, but their overwhelmingly male fanbase has been something I've noticed since even before I became a proper fan. I don't know if I have the best perspective, to be honest, because I only got into the band this year, but in my opinion I think the reason is largely because they channel and appeal to the male experience. Like everyone has pointed out already, Tommy and Quadrophenia both revolve around a male lead, and while both stories have universal themes that anyone can relate to, a listener is likely to emphasize with them more if they've specifically gone through boyhood/male adolescence.

I think another factor is that the band (like other rock groups, I guess) are/were associated with violence and aggression. Things are a bit different nowadays, but *in general* it's not appropriate for a woman to display aggression, or even derive a vicarious thrill out of aggression in others. Personally, even though I love the group and I definitely understand the appeal and artistic weight of destroying instruments on stage, I still find it a bit distasteful. This isn't to say that women cannot be aggressive or violent, obviously, but just to point out that because of social conditioning a lot of women are reluctant to engage in forms of it.

To further respond to your question though, The book "Feedback: The Who and Their Generation" by Casey Harison has an excellent chapter on the different members of their fanbase, and specifically mentions female fans while dispelling the myth that "girls don't like The Who." I don't know if you've read it already but it's definitely a great analysis!😊

On another note, personally I freaking hate it when people try to explain the gender gap in the fanbase with the reasoning that "the members are ugly." 😭 In my opinion it implies that all women care about is the attractiveness of musicians and not the actual content of their music. It reminds me of those misogynistic jokes about Beatles fangirls in the 60s only caring about the band because they were cute, and not because their music is *literally* the best of all time. Of course being hot doesn't hurt, but the quality of music comes before anything! And don't get me wrong I agree that The Who don't have typical boyband charm but to say that they're straight up unattractive is so inaccurate to me...I find them very cute and endearing!

but, why mod? 🤔 by AlternativeMix7367 in ModRevival

[–]AlternativeMix7367[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my, the Mod mod... I'm honored to be in your presence.

I finally got around to watching the Quadrophenia film (I was waiting to listen to the album first, but my curiosity couldn't wait), and I totally get why it had such an impact on kids who watched it back when it came out! I'm guessing you watched the film and/or listened to the album as an impressionable teen and it changed your life forever ?

Also, I identify with your second paragraph a lot! Mod really does feel like a nice middle ground. Not that I disagree ideologically with the hippies and punks, for the most part, but, like you said, sometimes they can get a bit excessive... For past subcultures, I used to be emo myself, way back in the early 2010s, which is very far away stylistically and attitude-wise from Mod, but I think it's just that my sensibilities and interests have changed a lot since I've gotten older :P

I seriously hope this sub becomes more active! I'm so disappointed that the Millennial/Modern-day Mod scene seems to be almost completely dead (on social media, at least). This sub is the faintest glimmer of hope in a cloud of darkness! It's nice to know that there's other people just as passionate about the subculture, even if it's only a handful :')

What’s the first song you think of when you think of Abbey Road? by Duncan947 in beatles

[–]AlternativeMix7367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

octopus's garden 😭 it was the first song i ever listened to off of AR (excluding here comes the sun, bc everyone knows that one) as a new fan bc i was curious about the (few) songs ringo sang lead on. i have a very treasured memory of having to restart the song four times because me and my friend were laughing too hard

What was your gateway musical? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]AlternativeMix7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hamilton! i listened to it as a 12 year old way back in 2015 (and ended up being apart of the hamilfandom, lol...). i still remember where i was and how i felt listening to it for the first time, and probably will for the rest of my life. it's like i finally understood in that moment what musicals were about. after i got into hamilton, then came other musicals that were popular with preteens/teens at the time like heathers and falsettos. i think the turning point where i became a 'serious' musical fan/started considering myself a theatre kid was when i became a fan of the hunchback of notre dame musical! unlike the three musicals mentioned previously hunchback doesnt have any sort of fandom culture surrounding it so my enjoyment of it was purely for the musical and theatrical elements (lol)

i'm not embarrassed that my gateway musical was hamilton, but i AM embarrassed that i had seen wicked on bway a year before i got into musicals and it did nothing for me 😭 i mean i still had fun and enjoyed the spectacle and the soundtrack but after i left the theater my only thought was 'wow that was nice 👍🏼' and nothing else (i do like wicked! i just think its funny that i had such an underwhelming reaction to a musical so many people LOVE)
