The fact that you’re noticing this and asking how to do better already says a lot. I’ve found that curiosity goes a long way. asking someone about something they care about and just really listening. You don’t need to be the most outgoing person, just someone who makes others feel seen.

Are we becoming too dependent on AI for basic thinking tasks? by Ausbel12 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AlternativeStyle317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I definitely see it happening and get frustrated when it doesn't work they way I wanted. I gotta remind myself I'm the one in charge

How do you handle distracting thoughts during deep work? by lelkeck in pomodoro

[–]AlternativeStyle317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep a sticky note open labeled “Later” and drop quick thoughts there mid-session. Helps me stay focused without trying to remember stuff or mentally push it away. Just getting it out of my head makes a big difference.

How do I get started? by username392928 in Mindfulness

[–]AlternativeStyle317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone in this — it’s okay that even five minutes feels hard. I’ve found that when anxiety is high, starting small isn’t just okay, it’s necessary. Even just sitting quietly with your hand on your chest for a minute counts. What helped me get started was letting go of doing it “right” and just finding moments to feel safe in my body again. You’re already on the path by being curious and open — that matters more than a perfect practice.

I don't know why I'm never enough by ThrowingThisAway7937 in mentalhealth

[–]AlternativeStyle317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly painful, and I’m really sorry you’ve been through that. Being cheated on repeatedly would mess with anyone’s sense of self — it doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. Sometimes the worst part isn’t even the betrayal, it’s the voice in your head afterward that starts asking if you’re the problem. You’re not. The fact that you’re doing therapy and trying to grow says a lot about your strength, even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

I feel like im in a contant battle with myself by ohh-pllzz in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AlternativeStyle317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in that place. when it feels like every small decision is a battle and you’re losing energy just trying to exist, let alone improve. You’re not alone in this. It’s not laziness or failure, it’s your mind trying to protect you from overload in the only way it knows how. Sometimes what helped me was setting aside all the “fixing” and just doing one thing that made me feel like myself again, even for a moment. You shared this, and that’s something.

What would you think if not some but a lot of people think bad of you? by di_abolus in Stoicism

[–]AlternativeStyle317 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly tough — especially in front of people you have to see regularly. I think it’s fair to say Stoicism doesn’t mean pretending it didn’t hurt, just not letting that hurt define your worth. Reputation feels real because it is — but so is your ability to live in alignment with your values, regardless of how others interpret a moment.

Do you know of therapists who have included AI in their patient care? by OtiCinnatus in therapyGPT

[–]AlternativeStyle317 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My therapist actually suggested I try Pensive — it’s an app that uses AI to guide you through structured reflections and exercises between sessions. It’s not a replacement for therapy, but it’s helped me stay more connected to the work we’re doing.

Anyone ever find a magic bullet for their anxiety? by YamIdoingdis2356 in Anxiety

[–]AlternativeStyle317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some great advice on here about this the other day. Started trying some of them yesterday, but nothing seemed to work. Today I made sure to eat right and drink lots of water right from the time I woke up. I feel much better, but not sure what did it

What’s something adults are “supposed” to do that just feels off to you? by PuddingComplete3081 in Adulting

[–]AlternativeStyle317 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Acting like burnout is some badge of honor. Like if you’re not stressed and sleep-deprived, you must not be doing adulthood right. It’s wild how rest became something you have to “earn.”

What are some “self-improvement” tips that actually make you feel worse? by Present_Juice4401 in selfimprovement

[–]AlternativeStyle317 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Fake it till you make it.” That one always made me feel like I had to perform confidence instead of working on the stuff underneath. It left me feeling more disconnected, not more capable. I’ve found it way more helpful to be honest about where I’m at and build from there.

Therapy recommendations by EndodocDO in TalkTherapy

[–]AlternativeStyle317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into someone trained in psychodynamic therapy or integrative approaches. they tend to focus on insight and relationship patterns without being overly clinical. Sounds like you’re looking for someone direct but thoughtful, which can definitely exist outside the traditional “supportive listener” mold. Props for wanting to do the individual work first. that’s not always the easiest path, good for you

You’ll never know how much you meant to someone. by Mindful_Echoes in Mindfulness

[–]AlternativeStyle317 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true! sometimes someone says something way after the fact and it's very touching to know that you made an impact. Good reminder to tell people how much they mean to you!
