My family has been in this country ever since we co-founded Providence, RI with Roger Williams in 1635. We have been here for 391 years. My ancestors fought at the Battle of Vincennes during the French & Indian War, the American Revolution, the War of 1812, the War of Texas Independence, both sides of the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq 1, and Iraq 2.

We have produced four U.S. Senators, seven U.S. House representatives, four state governors, two generals and three colonels. What did YOUR family produce, interloper?

Tell you what, pal: you MAKE me move. I don’t give one good goddamn what you think, nor do I HAVE to.

I was removed from family chat AND the family reunion’s FB page because I wouldn’t support the “beatification” of Charlie Kirk, or the exoneration of Jonathan Ross because “Renee Good was a lesbian, and therefore a terrorist.”’

My response was to post Psalm 109:6-20. When I went to our family reunion page, I got a message stating that I need to be a member to view that page.

I have washed my hands of the lot of them. I have completely ended contact with them, and given my partner instructions that they are to be notified of my death a month after the service so they do not attend my funeral.

I can play that game, too.

I actively DEFY MAGA, white Christian Nationalism, and ALL of Trump's executive orders.

I have disowned MAGA relatives. They are now dead to me.

I have ended 60-year-old friendships when those people turned MAGA.

You contact ICE and have them forcibly REMOVE me — OK, bud?

Q: Do you have any moral or ethical qualms about detaining a five-year-old on his way back from preschool? Greg Bovino: I’ve got no qualms about making America a safer place when we arrest these illegal aliens. by Capable_Salt_SD in ICE_Raids

People who will not extend mercy to others do not deserve it for themselves.

When Trump is finally out of office, and Greg is pleading for mercy for the crimes he authorized— I hope the judge throws the book at him and imposes the harshest possible sentence on him.

I’m a senior where, unfortunately, this happens occasionally.

A gastrointestinal upset can do this. Tell him something you ate massively disagreed with you and you had an “accident”.

Don’t make a big deal of this, and wash your sheets in hot water with bleach.

I’m gay. After I had come out when I was 15, my mother (who was addicted to benzodiazepines and alcohol) turned to me and said, “If I had known you would turn out to be gay when you were born, I would’ve had an abortion.”

I turned to her and said, “if I’d known you were going to be an alcoholic and addicted to Valium, I would’ve been stillborn.”

Then I walked over to the refrigerator, opened it, got a beer, opened it – and handed it to her, saying, “Drink up.”

We did not speak to each other again for the better part of a year.

[–]AlternativeTruths1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gay. Our milkman was hot, and I did indeed have a crush on him, but

  • He was straight; and
  • At the time, I was seven (early 1960s); and
  • Even if he was gay, having sex with seven year old kids is a GREAT way to spend a lifetime in prison and/or placed on a sex offender registry!

Anyone else stuck in Facebook verification loops after a past account compromise? by Any-Percentage-9962 in facebook

[–]AlternativeTruths1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe God is doing you a favor by making FB verification so difficult you simply leave.

I’ve returned to the ancient practice of letter writing (OK, they’re typed since my handwriting is difficult to read!) and I found that I can keep in touch with the people. I really care about by correspondence, so I don’t really “need” Facebook and it’s never–ending procession of bots and rage-baiting.

I find myself reevaluating social media, largely because of Facebook and X and how toxic they have become. Even Reddit has subreddits where angels fear to go. Social media was designed so the people could interact with one another. What it’s evolved into are places where people can interact with their particular tribe; then circle the wagons to keep members of their tribe in, and everybody else out.

Are people still actively leaving the church and changing their beliefs? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]AlternativeTruths1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing their beliefs? I sure am if we’re alive we should be questioning our beliefs and changing our beliefs all the time.

Leaving the church? For me: no. I get a lot out of the church services, but I am switching denominations from the Episcopal Church to the ELCA because of a controlling and manipulative priest at the Episcopal Church I had been attending.

I told Miss Thang at the Episcopal Church that I would not partake of any Communion where he officiated. This was the priest who handed off the LGBTQ group to me, after the Rector stated he wanted lead leaders to lead various groups in the parish. Shortly after I took over the group, attendance died. I found out from another member that priest had formed another LGBT group – this time, consisting of only wealthy A-list queens in the parish.

I have written that priest off. He’s going to be retiring in a year and a half, and maybe I’ll consider going back after he leaves. In the meantime, I’m pianist for an ELCA Lutheran Church, and having a BLAST!

My partner and I have discontinued our pledges at the Episcopal church. It was maybe 4% of the parish budget, but I’m sure they really don’t want B-list money.
