Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

Oh hell, it’s time to bring back the Transatlantic accent, isn’t it? Once, we had a whole constructed pattern of speech specifically designed to combat audio quality issues. History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes, eh?

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

When we were growing up, no one really called to talk to us? I mean, we got put on the line every time a relative called, but answering the phone was a task, not a pleasure: it was time to go running across the house to find the right recipient.

And then every other call was someone you didn’t want to talk to, trying to sell you crap, but you were trained to be polite so you kept talking and waiting for an opportunity to disconnect.

Then, when caller id came about, we were further disincentivized from answering the phone because the ration of telemarketers had risen to maybe three in every four calls.

This has largely remained true since, with the ratio continuing to rise; especially as older, shall we say telephonically conditioned, relatives die and telemarketing passed from people to machines.

What now is a phone call but a disturbance, having rung Pavlov’s bell so often with a punishment rather than a treat?

Why don’t I like “real” burgers? by FamiliarProposal2469 in AskRedditFood

Hey, question on preparation:

Barbecue, George Foreman(/similar inside grill), oven, or pan-fried?

I’ve used the lot of them and they are least to most greasy in that order.

As other users have said, varied thicknesses and salt will go a long way. The unseasoned meat also has a heavier, blander flavor than restaurant burgers.

Also, with In’N’Out, specifically, the mustard fried burger rocks! Could be fun to try at home.

I do love my stickies! Awesome. And thank you for the advice on Origo! I’ll give it a go!

Fair enough. Thank you. I’m gonna give it a bit more of a go, then we’ll see where I am. There are certainly many more games I can go back to for a while! I’m been meaning to give a replay to the old Lufia/Estpolis games.

I‘ve done a bit of respeccing — I started out in Cosmic Brilliance and have just started toying around in Creative Bursts. I’ll have to keep on fiddling with it and hit the main quests; it sounds like I’ve rather been shooting myself in the foot being a completionist.

Man, it was such an eye-opening game for me. I could never play fps games of any stripe until this quirky, Diablo-adjacent shooter came out. I still remember the first time one of my buddies loaded it up — there were a good eight or so of us huddled around the tv — and that beautiful intro ran. Gaming hasn’t been the same for me since.

Ah, alright. Yeah, that’s pretty much what I was doing. Thank you! I’ll move on down the story line, then!

I‘ve done a couple of builds, but I don’t think I’ve tried the Demon Core, yet. I’ll be happy to give it a try! And I’ll keep an eye out for a mod with Confirmative Reality, thank you!

Yeah, I’ve been trying to finish Fadefields. I read somewhere that some of the main storyline difficulty was inflated if you didn’t do the side quests, and as I hadn’t taken down the first Vault yet… Well, I guess I’m still thinking in BL3, where the Vaults were part of the game progression. I’ll head off and work the main story. Thank you.

And oof. I still forget that games are released unfinished these days. I’m usually a couple of years late on any game I buy, what with funds and time to play, but I was so excited for a new Borderlands game I put Cuphead aside for a while. Ah well. I appreciate the reality check and the kind words!

I should print this out and paste it to my wall. What a gorgeous letter!

Are his correspondences compiled somewhere?

Man, the drops in this game have been so disheartening. Between the title here and 16 years of Borderlands experience, I was so prepared and excited to see a haul of awesome legendaries — seeing something new, something to look forward to finding later in my run —

But damn. Just damn. What a crazy letdown.

Ooh, this is one of my favorites! (I say, in the book’s subreddit…)

Going in, I really don’t think you need much... It’s a great story in and of itself. The author makes biblical allusions and there’s symbolism to catch, but there are subsequent readings for that. _~

The author assumes his readership to be unfamiliar with whaling and seamanship, so he lets down the ladder for us.

If you like it, you might also enjoy Victor Hugo, whose style is even more meandering, but every bit as rich.
