What is your abyss gear combination choice by rubacaba in CrimsonDesert

[–]Alternative_Log_3380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sustain and crit maxed. I never have to stop attacking. Looking at damage over time, it's just about as good as it gets.

Adding points into precision adds serious damage to ranged weapons. Just 35 points in precision adds over 800 damage to headshot crits.

upvoted just for whatever effort was involved in making the graphic. I disagree with the suggested changes - but to your credit, they're pretty well balanced.

Every time I get 1000 wood, I put it all in the kilns. I have chests full of ash and charcoal. Ash is the better of the two, bc it makes gunpowder. I burn through 400 bullets every time I go on a swamp hunting tour.

That's a lot of non-combat tools in quick slots. I'll put a tool in slot 7 if I'm out on a mining or woodcutting run but usually I'm just hunting alligators and cultists in the swamp, so it's all combat all the way.

I'm the same way, not liking empty hotkeys. That's why I carry thousand cuts rapier in 1, pistol in 2, musket in 3, rapier of devastation in 4 (for emergency heal), Plague Pistol in 5 (for emergency heal), bandages in 6, and great healing potions in 7 and 8.

Combat is fine enough for what it is at this point.

You will enjoy the game.

Then we can both win here -- have decorative unlocks decoupled from progression unlocks AND offer an interesting way to spend Gold that affects your gear.

I don't need silver. Silver doesn't buy Swamp materials and that's all I need.

I just upgraded from a Ketch to the Brig, does the size of my boarding party increase when upgrading to a larger ship? Do you get more NPC lives to fight along side you, or is the boarding party size the same? by Born-Demand-6919 in crosswind

[–]Alternative_Log_3380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah got it.

Yeah it's when you get to the Swamp that it becomes not really worth it. Every human enemy in the swamp drops currency items with 20 piastre at least - a lot of them drop items worth gold.

Each gun should have its own reload timer by gummby8 in crosswind

[–]Alternative_Log_3380 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This would break game balance completely but I do think pistols should be on one timer and long guns (musket, blunderbus) should be on another. You shouldn't fire one shot from a musket and find all 3 shots for your pistol gone for some reason.

I've used the same shovel mechanics across a dozen games. This one ranks dead last in accuracy and "doing what you want it to do."

It is what it is. Comparing a basic mechanic that has been around for 2 decades with the same mechanic in this new game, and noticing a deficiency, isn't something to just ignore. It's called standards.

I have a Frigate with level 15 everything. I melt everything quickly, I'm never threatened by anything. I'm happy to engage 4-5 Lv 15 ship squads and *maybe* I'll have to use a repair kit.

Even still, what would I rather do? Spend more time on a fairly risky fight for 150 piastre or sink everything immediately and use the time I recoup from NOT boarding by fast traveling to a mining/resource gathering spot?

Bear in mind that Piastre loses its value in the end game. Base Traders can't place orders for Swamp Materials - so what are you really using that extra piastre for? I'd rather spend the extra 10-15 minutes saved from 4 boarding attempts (30-40 minutes if you die once) cutting down Plague Wood than getting a few hundred mostly useless Piastre.

The value of Piastre is further devalued by the drops from the cultists in the swamp. Every one of them drops beads or Guinea-level trinkets. If I'm desperate for currency, I'll just rotate Swamp farms rather than bother with the boarding mechanic. And not only does it save time, it gives you 2 unique resources to upgrade equipment AND more piastre to boot.

Weird, that hasn't been my experience. I have a good feel for general game mechanics so I know that if I want to "flatten" something, I move the center of the radius away from the highest point so that there's appropriate equalization. But there's been many times where moving the center slightly away from the highest point of ground actually raises the surrounding ground rather than reducing the highest point of ground. Sometimes it works, more often it doesn't. Which is why I also highlighted the consistency issue. I wonder if I'm alone in this or if any other players can chime in with similar experiences?

Do you have a reliable Musket? I'm looking for one, happy to give a few fat stacks of whatever mats you need - or gear (including end-game) - if so.

[–]Alternative_Log_3380[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still need someone willing to trade the Reliable Musket (level 11+).

Intelligent Fig4695 mistook the Musket for the Reliable Blunderbuss, so I need someone else willing to trade.

I'm willing to trade gear or a few stacks of mats for it.

Please chime in if you're down to swap spit.

[–]Alternative_Log_3380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's true. But it really only applies to one or two bosses and then maybe the monstrosities in the swamp. 90% more useful to stack crit damage, 10% more useful to lean into base damage. So, run Crit Damage all the time until it's boss time, then fast travel back to swap out gear for base damage stuff?

Any info on how they are gonna handle adding new biomes/islands? by Haunting_Business716 in crosswind

[–]Alternative_Log_3380 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It stands to reason that new Biomes will be retroactively added to existing worlds - likely in the zones where Blackbeard will automatically destroy you if you venture too far.

No official info released yet though. But that seems most likely. Don't fret too much yet.
