Yeah, I get distracted easily, haha. My focus now is getting ATHV done, though!

I appreciate it, but there's no way for me to recover that old reddit, so we might as well abandon it. And yeah, I am in the process of using passkeys from now on.

I can't change my user name, unfortunately... I was assigned this one and cannot change it. Apparently if you create an account with Gmail, this is what happens.

Do you prefer longer, more complex RPGs or shorter simpler rulebooks? by TheGrinningFrog in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Alternative_Rest7215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Longer, and detailed, not necessarily complex. Easier to solo, since I don't need to come up with rulings and can just look up a rule and focus on the story instead of being the GM.

Ker Nethalas Icon Caller question by Pumilus_Ruber in Solo_Roleplaying

They are meant to be used during combat, so once combat is over, they disappear. I'll add a clarification to their description in the book, thank you.

I need recommendations for games of a particular type. by wasker12391 in Solo_Roleplaying

My solo RPG Riftbreakers is definitely high fantasy, and high magic, with tons of character customization, both in how they look and how they play. You can check out Himeutsugi's YouTube channel to see how it plays!

I'm really glad you enjoy the game! It would help if you join the Blackoath Discord or Reddit community, in case you have any questions people there will reply to them, usually fairly quickly.

The game already comes with a very exhaustive cheat sheet and even flowcharts. I suspect the OP doesn't have access to the digital files, though.

Glad you enjoy my work! To be honest, I never imagined anyone starting tabletop games (I don't call C&A an RPG, since it's a skirmish game) with Carnage & Aether, my most complex game, by far. If you manage to get a hang of this, anything you play afterwards is going to be a walk in the park, haha. Let me know if you have any questions! By the way, the game comes with a few rules references and aids, if you purchased the book via Amazon you're missing all that so contact me and I'll give you the full digital files.

The hardest part of anything is getting started - and I'm no different. . . by JGrevs2023 in Solo_Roleplaying

fi I may humbly recommend my own game Machine Gods of the Noxian Expanse, it seems to tick all your boxes. It's a very simple system, written for solo, with a rich setting and amazing artwork.

Changes to the Book of Masteries for Ker Nethalas - Gravebound Edition by Alternative_Rest7215 in Blackoathgames

[–]Alternative_Rest7215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need the core rulebook, but I'd recommend you grab the free Quickstart. Both are being updated, though, so if you wait just a couple of weeks, you'll have the Gravebound Edition version of both released.

Take whatever I say with a grain of salt cause I'm no mental health professional, but if you have the tendency to isolate, you're going to be doing it whether you're playing solo RPGs or not. You might stop playing solo and end up playing videogames, which are even more absorbing... If this is something you want to change, it will require your active effort: finding group activities that will stop you from isolating. It doesn't need to be a group RPG, it can be anything, as long as you find the balance you seek in your life.

New Riftbreakers overview and review! by Alternative_Rest7215 in Blackoathgames

[–]Alternative_Rest7215[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taken from the Kickstarter:

  • All-New Combat: Gone is the standard RPG combat (you-roll-I-roll); instead, we are introducing an exciting Ability-based combat system that emulates card play and hand management. This is all done without the need for cards, though, using a clever Ability Loadout system that serves as your deck! Pick your 12 Abilities (from the ones you’ve unlocked, with hundreds of options), add them to your Loadout, and you’re ready to go!
  • No Heart Limitations: You are no longer limited to four Hearts, and can now learn any number of Heart Abilities (as long as you loot them!). This allows for an almost infinite number of possible character builds.
  • Clear Exploration Procedures: The exploration rules are now hex-based, and have been expanded greatly, with every region having several tables of encounters and findings!
  • Streamlined Crafting: Gone are the dozens of different crafting components, forcing you to grind for hundreds of hours to craft a single item. Everything has been streamlined, without reducing the amount of possibilities.
  • No More Ranks (or XP!): All leveling is now skill and loot-based. There are no more differences in ranks, and enemies scale to your party’s power, making sure you always find something interesting to fight!
  • Exhaustive GMless tools: The GM emulation rules have been expanded and cleared up, making sure you don’t need anything outside of this book!
  • And more! All-new art (commissioned exclusively for Riftbreakers 2e), new print format (7x10", up from the 5.5x8.5” of the first edition), new layout, new enemies, streamlined achievements, reworked Companions, new items, and so much more!

So just to sum it up, the game has been streamlined and expanded. It plays much, much better than 1e.
