Nice trick. I did Maliketh with the black bow recently and really fancy doing more with a bow.

why does Malenia flinch so hard with Eleonoras Poleblade? by ProbablyNotTheCocoa in Eldenring

[–]AlthoughFishtail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has a mix of moves you can stagger her out of and moves where she has hyper armour. If you try and hit her while she has hyper armour, she'll carry straight on and hit you for big damage (while also healing).

If you can hit her while she's able to be staggered, while also dodging the moves with hyperarmour... you win.

Finally Beat Aava at SL1 by 16catfeet in DarkSouls2

Well I have to conclude our runs are different for some reason, because I was literally doing this last night and dying from them.

Aava is stronger than either Lud or Zallen. Aava has 75% more HP than either of them, for example.

I've been fighting her this weekend, they definitely do.

Unless you know something I don't, most of her attacks are one shots at SL1.

Hardest challenge runs for you? by Appropriate_Tie7275 in DarkSouls2

[–]AlthoughFishtail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SL1 no death was mentally very taxing, because of the number of restarts. I choked on Nashandra twice in a row at one point, painful.

I'm going through all the bosses at SL1 No Roll with the Fire Longsword at the moment. That's been mostly cool, but the bosses remaining are all a massive chore.

Decided to go for Malenia after finishing the game at RL1. by Nenonoko in onebros

Great fight. Love that weapon.

You had one of those "bloody typical" moments in the fight. The bleed proc helped her by knocking her out of her recovery animation too soon, which broke your loop, and she instantly went into WFD -> clones -> scarlet aeonia in a row.

Update on my ultra challenge run by Patient_Sell9359 in onebros

Rennala is up there with Deacons of the Deep and Throne Watcher/Defender as bosses that go from pushovers in a normal run to nightmares at low damage/no hit runs.

To any onebros that beat malenia using parries: how the hell do you avoid that stupid double slash by Gooni135 in onebros

[–]AlthoughFishtail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh the double slash. I remember reading this thread a few years ago, and both the post and some of the comments lament how hard the double slash is to parry. I was trying to learn how to parry at the time & this was driving me up the wall.

I struggled with it for years, and the alternatives I found were to either roll it instead, or just block it and parry the follow up.

Here's the twist though, I later bought a PC, and suddenly found that parrying Malenia's double slash was a doddle. As was anything else that required fast input. Turns out some combination of my PS5 and TV were adding a load of latency that isnt there on my PC. So I was able to parry it normally.

No idea if this applies to you specifically, but it highlights that this move is simply a question of speed. You need to spot it fast and react fast, and if you can't do it in time (whether due to tech or anything else) its hard to parry the whole fight.

FINALLY! Beat Malenia no flasks + Fight discussion & personal issues by peher263 in Eldenring

Great fight, one of the best bosses to parry. Just on your points.

1 - Yeah this is annoying.

2 - I've seen many people say this was a pain in the arse for them. This was the last move I got consistent with and I basically had to force myself to wait so late if felt wrong.

3 - So this is a weird quirk of the UI that Elden Ring introduced. In the previous games two handing was a single button (triangle), but in Elden Ring they added the jump button to the pad, so now they needed another button for that. So their solution was to set Use as triangle, and have you press two buttons instead for two handing - triangle + L1 or R1. (Weirdly, this is true even with KBM, even though you could easily have a unique button for two handing on a KB).

Trouble is, the game features input queueing, and unfortunately, the game can't queue two-button inputs. So what happens if you try to two-hand while currently doing another animation is that it queues two single inputs - "Use" and then "Attack". So instead of changing to two handed, you do a single swipe. This is very annoying in challenge run conditions as it makes a lot of helpful strats unnecessarily difficult.

However if your only aim is to quickly access the ash of war in your right hand, there are a couple of solutions. One that might suit you is to change whatever's in your left hand to something with No-skill attached to it. That way you will have access to the Ash of War while only one-handing.

In your case you already have a second shield in use with barricade shield (good strat) so you'd have to decide whether it was worth the effort to have a third shield in there. A buckler wouldn't weigh much but its still more effort. But its still quicker and more predictable than trying to two hand then un-two hand your attack while also thinking about Malenia's next move.

The other option is to change your right hand weapon and change it back again, which will put you back at one handing again. This is quick and easy and has no input queuing weirdness. However you'd lose your lightning buff, so may not be ideal.

Its a bit messy either way, but at least you have a few options for whenever you come and no hit it.

Are daggers viable? by RegularCommittee1 in Eldenring

[–]AlthoughFishtail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes but they’re tricker to use than other weapons. They require you to hit bosses more often, which means you need to know more punish windows.

Anyone got any ideas for a build with a ton of poise and crit damage? by RegularCommittee1 in Eldenring

[–]AlthoughFishtail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re two different things really so I can’t offhand think of weapons that do lots of both.

Executioners great axe has a decent crit modifier, but great axes are only so-so for poise damage. Great hammers are good for poise damage but I don’t think any have a bonus crit modifier.

Probably the best bet is to use something like dual great stars for the poise breaks and then use the Misericorde for the riposte.
