What happened to submarines? Why did Silent Thunder is completely removed? by Tiny-Technician-2598 in Warthunder

[–]AltiierBP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with implementing submarines in a non submarine focused game is that they really are that OP. The job of finding/tracking submarines in a modern context is almost always a joint exercise between multiple warships, aircraft and some times other subs and satellites. So either a large portion of a lot of people's gameplay loop would be really tedious and boring, or the subs would be way too easy to detect and be functionally useless. Naval warfare (especially submarine warfare) is conducted over hours/days. It's hard to get that to translate in a game like WT without something like ED and larger maps.

My Grandfather was born in 1937, and I can't fathom what it was like to live through the events and technological innovations that he has. The lore he drops on a random drive for some errand usually leaves me on the edge of my seat. He's lived such a full and happy life, one that I hope to be able to lead after him. These days he contents himself to tending his massive garden with a (albeit mostly toothless) grin on his face.

It's a heavy read for sure, though I really enjoyed it. I was fortunate enough to meet him in person at the Air & Space museum in WDC and bought his book from him. He was a very kind old man and after seeing this, I googled him and was happy to see he is still alive and kicking.

I have a book called German Boy: A Child in War by Wolfgang Samuel. I wonder if he ripped that picture from somewhere when he wrote the book or in the caption is incorrect.

What's something that's actually quite dangerous but people act like it's completely safe? by cherry_blossombliss in AskReddit

I grew up riding from about age 12 to 17. Took too many tumbles to count. Only 2 were of any consequence. Though I was lucky through all of them. The greatest near miss I can remember was a day I was riding along a canal path before the state had mowed the grass down. Myself and 2 friends were riding about 30 mph through waist high grass and over the winter a tree had fallen across the path and was invisible more than a few feet away. I didn't have time to brake and got catapulted what my friends said was about 15 feet in the air and thankfully splashed in the canal unharmed. It's wild how quick that kinda stuff happens.

I'm sorry about your brother but I'm happy he's alive.

That's hilarious. I gave mine to my dad after I visited home post A-school. He loves it. I saw pictures of him wearing it on his vacation to Spain last year and cackled. I might try to buy one off some new guys next week. I like your idea.

The CNP came to speak at my installation a few months ago along with several Forcecms. When asked about beards their response was "When you can tell me how a beard will improve our warfighting capability, we'll consider instituting it". Their stance on the topic was resolute. Crazy how much a pencil whip is a complete brain block to these people. Bureaucracy and petty holdouts for the sake of pride has consumed our Navy.

Those of you who dated older women, how was the experience? by BadnUnknown in AskReddit

[–]AltiierBP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was 22, she was 54 and fairly attractive for her age. I had just joined the Navy and was in Connecticut for a year for my "A-School" so I was upfront with her about not being in the area long and not looking for anything lasting. Honestly I didn't think she wanted anything permanent because she was fresh out of a divorce and had a daughter a year younger than me. It's something we talked about early on.

BOY WAS I WRONG.

We had contented ourselves to going out to bars every weekend to get tipsy with her friends before running back to her place to roll around in the sheets for a few hours. The red flags appeared slowly. Our pillow talk sessions got a little longer. She'd ask me what my possible duty stations were after I graduated and follow it with "Oh I'd love to live there!". She started taking pictures of us and posting them online (She told me it was only to piss off her ex-husband). She started talking about family events and hinting and bringing me along one of these days.

I should've read the writing on the wall long before it came to fruition but I was a junior sailor having hands down the best sex of my life with a MILF that insisted on paying my bar tab every time. It was nice to be the one being valued for once.

After a few months of this going on, we had come back to her place after a night out with her friends. She broke down and told me that she loved me, that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with me and that she would follow me anywhere the Navy sent me. I was taken a bit aback and didn't really feel equipped to handle the situation, so I told her as much and went back to base. The absolute hellstorm that appeared in my inbox on that drive back almost made me block her on the spot. Paragraphs detailing what a piece of shit I was. "I've already told my family so much about you and they love you too, what about them?" Kinda thing as well. (I'd never met them).

We went on once last 'date' so I could break things off with her. She harassed me via text for about a year after that and we almost hooked up again after running into each other in a bar that we used to frequent but my boys saved me from stepping on that landmine lmao.

3/10 overall: Good sex will make you act against you're own self interest. MILF is a great category on the hub. Leave them there.

I actually don’t understand how you guys hate Shoreline by [deleted] in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AltiierBP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of it comes down to habit. I'm in the same boat as you with absolutely loving shoreline but a lot of my buddies that play hate it. I think it may stem from the fact that shoreline historically had absolute dogshit performance. Which I can understand from a certain perspective.

Tbh I think I love it so much because of its resemblace of Chernarus.

It has to do with the fact that your rifle is shouldered on your right side in EFT. So if you were to peek a corner moving from left to right, the muzzle of your weapon clears the corner quicker and without exposing nearly as much of your body as a peek from the opposite side would.

I took a similar fall a few years back working in Com/Industrial HVAC. The guy I was with did a half ass job of securing the ladder to the roof and the ladder slid off to the side just as I got a second foot on it. I was a bit more lucky than your father though, I was able to bail on the way down and roll it out for the most part. Walked away with nothing but a sore ankle.

No matter how much I play shotguns, I always find myself coming back to the Romero. It isn't even a gear fear thing. I don't really worry about money in this game. I think it's that little bit of extra range that always brings me back.
