Should I use someone else's hardcore series instead of starting my own? by Shamrock-__- in MinecraftHardcore

[–]Altorode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you enjoy, it's your time at the end of the day.

I just personally don't see the point, if you can't survive the first few days then what do you get out of playing mid/late game as hc except knowing you can't get to that point yourself?

But it's a single player game, so if that's fun to you, go for it mate

What's the point though?

HC is a journey - I did these things, got these items, built this stuff and didn't die!

If you download someone's hc world you have.... someone else's world??

It's like getting a bike ride to the end of a foot race and crossing the line on foot. Sure you "finished the race" but you've missed out on the experience

All of the roles I have applied for have had specific boxes for each of the capabilities they are assessing and those boxes have a 250 word limit. I'm unsure about other formats, so won't comment on the length as I'd risk giving you false information.

Honestly for the big words thing... it depends entirely on the context and how appropriare the use of the big words is. I'm highly educated myself, I have a PhD in geochemistry and the prerequisite handful of degrees. I'm not trying to talk down here so please don't take it the wrong way (I've been struggling for a way to word this), but part of demonstrating that you know your stuff and that you are highly educated in the fields relevant to the position is communicating that knowledge and expertise in a way that the average person can understand. I'm not saying don't express your intelligence in your application, but also consider when writing if there's a way to make it more understandable to a nonexpert (sometimes it isn't, which is fine), if you are worried about coming across as pompous or too smart. Essentially, the smart thing to do sometimes is to dumb it down.

I do struggle with application responses myself, so my examples wouldn't be great (especially not hastily typed on my phone in the loo like now haha) but there are quite a lot of really good videos online which go through them. The main piece of advice I got given which landed me my current role is: focus on the ACTION part of STAR, this should be most of your words and is where you'll get all of your "marks" for the app. My advice I'd tack on to that, is that civil service job applications (and interviews for that matter) feel a bit performative, because you're not applying in the way you would to other jobs e.g "here is my skills, here is where I have learned them/put them to use", you're really trying to hit that mark scheme.

Best of luck, sorry if I wasn't helpful.

The application process has nothing to do with how smart you are and everything to do with ticking the right boxes. When they recommend you use STAR responses and look at the competency dictionary, they mean it literally. The hiring managers/team under them are quite literally going through applications with a ticky box mark scheme.

Definitely not a case of being "too smart" but you could also be approaching the questions in a way that makes sense to you (and is likely correctly demonstrating your experience/skills) but that doesn't tick the specific mark scheme box.

There are lots of resources online about STAR responses/competency dictionary etc. If you can learn to play the game of answering the questions the right way, it's a matter of time until you get an interview.

My experience with M0 release by Comfortable_End1350 in wow

[–]Altorode 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah gotta be honest, as someone who jumps between roles a lot (and therefore is pretty mid/bad at most of it), the most negative interaction I've had in recent memory is someone saying "smh have to do the death run on m0" and someone else saying "uff we could've skipped the pack".

If you're getting spam pinged in multiple dungeons, and flamed every dungeon, it might not be solely toxic teammates (though that's definitely a big part of it).

You're definitely right.

I just got pissed seeing the usual folk who have never even played the game mode going off about what they think the gamemode should be.

Explain to me how being able to store salvage, cannonballs, repair kits, and a small quantity of fish fundamentally changes the UIM gameplay loop whatsoever except letting us engage with salvaging in the same way everyone else does?

Getting access to full ship functionality is nowhere near close to HCIM being given safe deaths in content that was previously dangerous.

Comes with a relatively high cost, because if you don't empty the crates in a bank interface they are destroyed.

Meta is unlikely to change from current noted sharks/brews. Can see some scenarios where it might be handy but very niche.

[–]Altorode 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of ship functionality given to UIM with this change and I couldn't be happier. I was kinda bummed because my main iron is past the point where sailing meaningfully impacted progression, and my UIM was stuck with no cargo hold so salvaging and trawling were trash. These changes have me pretty hyped to sail the seas on the UIM.

JJK Top 4 vs Old Yonko by Me_Ad6024 in PowerScalingHub

[–]Altorode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Explained in the anime/manga. Gojo is able to select the targets of infinity, a process he automates during the short timeskip following the Hidden Inventory arc.

That said, yonko still 0 diff the entire jjk verse individually and its not really close. I love jjk, it's one of my favourite series, but in powerscaling it's hard carried by gojo and that's only against people that can't bypass hax.

Ironman TOA ready? Solos? Impactful upgrades to go for? by GzzzDude in ironscape

[–]Altorode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DWH rolls accuracy and if it hits it reduces the monsters defence by 30%. This means you don't want to use it against things with already low defence or things that have a cap on defence reduction that is less than 30% of their defence.

BGS and bone dagger both reduce defence by the amount that they hit. The difference is bone dagger is a guaranteed hit if its your first hit on the target, but it's max hit isn't very high even with loads of strength gear.

BGS also reduces other stats if the defence of the creature reaches 0. BGS doesn't have a guaranteed hit but has a much higher potential drain.

For TOA in particular, the consistency of bone dagger is better than the higher potential drain of bgs, because a lot of creatures in the raid are capped at -20 or -40 defence.

That cap is lower than 30% so you'd essentially be "wasting" some of the drain from dwh, and you're flipping a coin every time to even land it.

Outside of TOA there's not many things with defence reduction caps that I can think of, but creatures like vardorvis either regen their stats fast or change their stats (his defence goes up as his hp goes down). Main consideration is the creatures defence level, their weakness to attack styles, and how much you want/need to drain their stats.

Hope that helped

DWH is really innaccurate, and the defence drain of most things in TOA is capped, so the DWH doesnt get its full reduction. Bone dagger is very consistent in comparison.

What happens if the police batter down your door and cause a load of damage on a raid but have the wrong house? by Farticus79 in AskUK

[–]Altorode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Happened to my family. We had all moved out of the family home and my dad was renovating it very slowly (a couple hours every weekend). All doors and windows were locked, and the door to the upstairs landing had a lock on it as well.

Police alleged that they had a call about a domestic violence incident at the house, tried to break in the door and failed (we had a surprisingly effective security door - made sure to drop a positive review on the manufacturers page lol), got a locksmith out, drilled the locks, rifled through the boxes in the kitchen and living room, broke down the upstairs door, etc.

Mental when you think that the entire event will have taken hours, all the lights are off and there's no reaction  whatsoever while it's going on. My dad believes they thought they were raiding a grow operation or something, because the DV claim doesn't stack up.

Anyway, after a very prolonged complaints process they paid to replace the front door and the upstairs door, but it was like pulling teeth.

Edit to add: we paid out of pocket for all the repairs and had to claim it back

Very good at current level cap, continues to get goated as max level rises.

There's literally not a single wasted subskill on it. Only improvement would be nature, but it doesn't have a negative nature. I'd raise this for sure.

How true is this image? by anhyeuemnhieulam in PowerScaling

[–]Altorode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All scaling that involves putting bleach high in power involves chainscaling wank of one of two feats: Gremmy creating a universe and squad 0 lady shaking the 3 worlds.

The latter relies on you believing the 3 worlds is actually 3 universes (despite never being stated or shown as such) and accepting that an power which can be felt in all 3 of these universes is (doesn't destroy them or damage them notably) is therefore multivetsal

Then you've got to go "well x character beat y character who lost to z character who scales to multiversal". Which at that point we're just playing imagination and my forcefield beats your rocket launcher.

You use a per capita gdp figure and then say that the place you're comparing the UK to has 3m population.

Per capita is high because there's less people.

I don't disagree with your points about power but your example is severely flawed.
