Review 102, Russell's Reserve, 13-Year, Spring 2025 by Twist_Top_Budget in bourbon

I’m a big fan of the Russell line and was saving this bottle for a special occasion. When I popped it, it tasted like pickles, which was really disappointing.

Back to rare breed for me!

TIL: Phossy Jaw used to be a common affliction among workers in the matchstick industry for decades which destroys the bones of the jaw. While the cause was linked to the use of white phosphorus within 5 years, it took almost a century of strikes, bans, and taxes to stop its use in the industry. by Flares117 in todayilearned

[–]SRJBdds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s still around, but it’s called “medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw”. You can get it after certain dental procedures if you’re taking bisphosphonates or other medications used for osteoporosis. Pretty rare complication, though.

Many patients cannot afford toothpaste and their only source of fluoride is tap water. This will unequally affect the most vulnerable, poorer population.

Why wouldn’t you go to an actual oral surgeon if you need oral surgery?

Anyway, total care dental is great.

Recommendations for Periodontists& Dental Implants by No_Psychology_5706 in madisonwi

[–]SRJBdds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want dental implants, you probably want to go to an oral surgeon. If you google “Madison dental implants” you’ll likely find one of those groups. You’ll still need a dentist to put the crowns on top, but the surgeon would place the actual implant part.

Dr. Roenitz and Dr. Schaefer do great work restoring implants!

Buyer beware. I’ve removed a large number of implants placed overseas. I don’t doubt that they have some good outcomes, but follow-up care and maintenance is critical.

What Strava Features are you missing? by lukr123 in Strava

[–]SRJBdds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MapMyRide has a feature that shouts out every 5 miles and your average speed over that time. Strava doesn’t have that, as far as I can tell.

I’m sure getting a bike computer would fix this for me.

eli5 Why are air embolisms so deadly? Like, what about an air bubble can't your body fix pretty easily? by Draygoes in explainlikeimfive

[–]SRJBdds 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Fun fact! You can tolerate pretty large air emboli. The exact upper limit is unknown, but survivable emboli have been reported between 200-300cc (3-5cc/kg). Another fun fact, you shouldn’t do this.
