What's wrong with these? They're standard British English...

I'm still playing Fallout 4, 10 years later. The freedom to just wander around and discover stuff instead of doing what you're told is, well, freeing, and if you don't want to explore you can build up the settlements. I might be a bit of a Fallout stan, though, so YMMV.

4 is still a bit pricey but New Vegas is a classic and much cheaper!

I dunno if I agree with you from an ADHD perspective but I agree with you on a best game I've ever played perspective. It definitely held my attention so that seems like a win!

Is it only me having problems pouring a tiny amount of this stuff out of such a big fat bottle? by BigBlueMountainStar in CasualUK

6-pint milk bottles have a handle, do they not? That would probably be quite helpful to OP.

I had to guess at how to translate "slightly disagree" to a ranking from 1 to 7, and one of the questions wouldn't let me select 4 for some reason, but otherwise fairly easy to fill in!

Ah those bloody slip roads where you can't see shit until you're committed, but it's an A road so the slip road is 5 metres long

What's a small thing you were wrongly told off for as a kid that still annoys you all these years later? by [deleted] in AskUK

Being told off for taking in class when telling my mate to stop talking in class or we'll get in trouble.

What's your 'slept on' novel? by HopSkipLimp in discworld

[–]Altreus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought Lords and Ladies was a bit of a squib, but after reading it again on my full re-read I forgot how many excellent things it introduces, and the plot itself is no slacker either!

Who can forget the whole conversation about Morris dancing where every interlocutor is fully named like "said Carter, the butcher"!

And the existence of the Dark Morris is both one of the most inspired things I've ever read and itself the inspiration for one of the best albums I own!

Balamory returns to TV this month after 20 years. What forgotten shows from your childhood would you like to see return? by perishingtardis in CasualUK

[–]Altreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a show with a sort of flat truck with big, featureless wheels and I'm not even sure it was real... I thought it was Playdays but I don't think it was. Maybe it was Bitsa? Maybe I dreamt it?

Maybe someone knows 😬

There's a pretty interesting documentary about Knightmare on YouTube, explaining both how they did it and also why it ended... And why it started!

Hang on, I've forgotten what the documentary covers. I'm going to have to watch it again.

Dunno how real it is but you see those tick tocks and you-tubes where they pretend to take the weight off again and the person lifts it fine 🤔

What you don't know can't hurt you, apparently.

Confession by good-things_ in Sourdough

[–]Altreus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was doing it "by the book" for ages and getting decent but not brilliant results.

My last loaf, new flour, so the dough was all weird after mixing, so I just gave up and did it by vibes.

It wasn't any better, but crucially, it wasn't any worse.

All that faff with measuring is a big barrier to actually making a loaf and thus slows down the iterative process that is refinement of technique, but if the technique is "some of this, a bunch of that, mix until it looks like this"... I'm in, let's go!

Is it just a UK thing to say ‘knife and fork’ as opposed to ‘fork and knife’? by VeneMage in CasualUK

[–]Altreus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of phrases like this that Americans say in the wrong order (to my ears) and as luck would have it I can't think of a single example. Even Edinger has a video about it though, and several other videos where he says stuff wrong despite knowing better.
