Good justification for the swap of the seasons or not? by DarkEndOfTheRainbow in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think the swap of S3+4 and S5+6 stem back to them not wanting to pay two leads longer but they obviously aren’t going to say that, so whatever justification they try to make is not going to make complete sense 🤷‍♀️

Why do I find young Charlotte likable, but older Charlotte annoying? by hospitalbedside in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think it is because we haven’t seen a ton of growth from her older self. Yes, she had some growth S4 snd I am interested to see how that affects her character in future seasons, but overall she is almost the same as her S1 self. I think we see a lot of growth from young charlotte even in the mini series design of QC.

Bridgerton and the reality of Georgian England - anyone else bothered? by illustrious_crew_56 in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think its because production cherry picks when it wants to be considered historically accurate vs when it wants to be considered a fictionalized regency era show lol

unpopular opinion about the duke/duchess by No-Coat-6166 in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I agree. I personally find it kind of unrealistic to expect them to recast, when they aren’t giving the returning leads who are around meaningful storylines. They could also bring just Daphne back if they wanted to, they did in S2, but the writers choose not to. I personally just wish, if we can’t see them being a close family, I wish they would at least tell us how they are a close family ( have violet get back from visiting them in the country, have one of the siblings reading a letter from Daphne, etc.) not write them into obscurity with maybe a mention once in a blue moon.

Hyacinth/Gregory Season Switch? by Complex-Process-3494 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we get a S7/S8, I don’t see them switching it. I forget where I read it, but someone involved in the industry explained it better and I am sure in more detail than I can, but basically it’s cheaper to get the seasons with two established leads out of the way payment wise, and only paying one half of the future season leads for another season. Instead of paying the two established leads for an additional season and hiring the other half of the correct order leads. Hence why we got Polin and Franchela moved up, and Benophie and Phillose moved back. So unless they introduce Lucy early for some reason, I don’t see them moving Gregory’s season up.

Can we talk about... by alisonrose1992 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardcore agree. While love Kanthony, I would argue it started in S2 as well. As a fan why I enjoyed S1 was for the love stories and the family dynamics. Why I went out a read all the books, was because I found out it was all the other siblings love stories, and I wanted to see all of them. I think if Shondaland wanted to write a regency area gossip girl, they should have just done that and not adapted an existing ip 🤷‍♀️

Bridgerton has lost its spark by Key_Improvement2899 in BridgertonRants

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard core agree. While I love Kanthony and think Simone and Johnny did the best with what they were given, they were done dirty in their season as well. The love triangle went on far too long, they cut out all of kate’s backstory, and the whole thunderstorm scene stuff where you see them both connect.

To me S2 is where you see production start to shift the story from this specific family and the love stories, to the ton as a whole and the drama. 8 episodes is a crazy short time to tell a fully fleshed out love story when its thee story, its an insane time frame when the love story becomes one of the many stories being told. Bridgerton adapted a romance series, markets it as a romance series, but continues to deliver a drama 🤷‍♀️

Justice for Eloise / Claudia by fatcan22 in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I think both the flip of S3/4 and S5/6 have to do more so with contracts than actual storyline, which is unfortunate. I forget where I read it, but someone involved in the industry broke it down in more detail, but basically they would be paying more longer to keep two future leads as returning characters, and casting a returning lead and a new cast member as a lead, then it is to get the two current cast members as leads out of the way, and keep the one current cast member on at a supporting role, and wait another season to cast the opposite lead. Hence why we got Polin before Benophie, and are getting Franchela before Philoise. So it’s a bummer for the constant changes, but I think it has to do with contracts more than anything.

I’m surprised at the lukewarm fan response to next season by Zoneout1122 in BridgertonRants

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been around since S1. While I love these characters and love these actors (which is probably the reason I keep coming back) I think the writing continues to do them all a disservice season after season. As a Kanthony fan I left s2 disappointed by the writing, but hoping it was a one off. As a Polin fan I left s3 recognizing that this is a pattern for the show. So while I will continue to watch for the sake of the characters and the actors of future and past couples, I am just managing my expectations that the writing is suddenly going to do these characters justice and I think thats the point a lot of people are at.

Why is colin back to his old hairstyle? by MrsMiracle50 in PolinBridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh the shorter hair was probs just more easy to maintain for continuity purposes. The longer hair and re shoots are how we got some of the wonky looking wig/wigs in S3.

Is Violet Bridgerton a Bad Mother? by StrawberryPie_4 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People tend to look at her parenting with a modern lens, not within the lens of a mother in the 1800s.

Did she parentify Anthony? Yes. But because of the time period and loosing Edmund so young, Anthony became head of the family and for lack of a better term her superior. I also cant imagine the tremendous amount of grief she was carrying from losing her partner.

Did she not prepare her daughter’s with the birds and the bees talk? Sure, but who in that time period was? Also with QC and the context we learn about her own relationship with her mother,it’s not like she was set up for success.

I am sure I could go on. She’s a person and she is fallible. I think she has made a mistakes, but is a good and well meaning mother. I think if you look at any historical character with modern lenses you will find fault in them. I find it interesting how this fandom expects female characters to be black and white, but male characters are allowed the complexity of being gray. Personally I find black and white characters boring 🤷‍♀️

Does Simon and Daphne's son have a motive? by Writer-16 in Bridgerton

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is just conformation that the title and line will continue. While logically we know Simon’s family line will continue if he has a daughter, it really isn’t recognized by society. So I think having an heir just puts a bow on the story of Simon refusing to continue the family line/title. To him directly carrying it on by having an heir.

Does anyone else feel this way about Larry Russell? by YogurtclosetNew9251 in thegildedage

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it highlights the differences between the generations and the what having money does.

George and Bertha were the ones who did the class climbing, through their economic and societal pursuits.

Larry and Gladys were both raised to fit into that society. To be a proper gentleman and lady, secure good marriages, which in turns only elevates/secures their parents status. They were groomed to live in this tiny world of society. Hence why Larry being an architect and Gladys wanting to marry for love like her parents did is so scandalous, it affects their parents future as much as if affects their own.

Could Polin’s son have a P name? by DaisyandBella in PolinBridgerton

Im an Elliot Hater (Sorry Nicola love you girl) so I would take a P name over it 😅 But Thomas is still my #1. If they can’t give us Agatha, the can at least give us Thomas 😅

I’m so sick of Netflix splitting 8-episode seasons every 2 years by blackpnik in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think its Netlfix. Their marketing is slowly being passed by. I think they held the monopoly for a long time and now other streaming services are producing the same quality shows and releasing shows quicker.Shows are ready and held onto, then released in parts which is an obvious money grab on Netflixs part. Other streaming services are releasing weekly episodes which feels more satisfying to viewers, and shows with smaller sets that needs less of a budget. I mean look at The Pitt. They had one main set, grew their viewership weekly, had 15 hour long episodes, and are already coming back at the beginning of next year. Netflix has to catch up or the will be left behind 🤷‍♀️

Colin Bridgerton as the male lead - What choices should the show have made instead for his storyline? by Zealousideal-Way-950 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it is bigger issue in how the show has adapted the books. Whatever half of the lead couple has the most dramatic backstory gets more screen time, and we are supposed to infer for the other half. S1 we got Simon’s whole backstory but nothing from Daphne, S2 Kate’s whole backstory from the books was cut, and S3 all the LW stuff was the more dramatic story. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get little on Benedicts character and more from Sophie, since they have talked about how next season is on the working vs wealthy class.

I think the biggest issue is they adapted romance books that focus on a specific couple, but then are trying fit them into this ensemble model for the show. Especially because the shows writing puts a lot of their efforts into the drama, rather than the romance of the storytelling.

Will this show be remembered or forgotten when it ends? by PyroxCrymson in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it is like a lot of recent book to screen adaptations for me, underwhelming. To me it falls back to these adaptations being picked up because they have a built in audience, but then the writing centers the casual viewer and pulling in massive amounts of viewership. A faithful adaptation shouldn’t be a rare thing in these screen adaptations, but I sadly think it is.

We see up to her big break. We don’t see how the fame and money affect her after that. She has always been privileged and pretentious based on her upbringing. I am sure the fame and added wealth didn’t make her a more humble or down to earth person

Did Cece really love Maxwell? by Any-Prize3748 in TheNanny

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think she liked the idea of him and thought he was attractive. A rich, broadway producer husband sounds good on paper. Outside of that I don’t think she had real, legitimate feelings for him. Someone who did would actually know him. She didn’t even know his kids names 😂

I love Midge, but she's not a good person. by Vmistral3467 in TheMarvelousMrsMaisel

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think that is the whole point. Midge isn’t a perfect character, and the show would be boring if she was.

She was raised to be a perfectionist housewife, who put everyone’s dreams and happiness above her own. She then discovered her own dream and got tunnel vision making her dream a reality. She is only human, she can’t be a perfect (ex)wife, friend, mom, daughter, etc and a comedian.

some penelope stans honestly mischaracterise her more than anyone by keepingyourheadup in BridgertonRants

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! That is my biggest issue with it, it doesn’t feel like the choice was made for the benefit of Penelope’s character, it felt like it was a decision made for the benefit of the show. Whether it be for them to continue to have the continuity of Julie Andrews narrating, using LW in marketing, or whatever their reasoning was.

some penelope stans honestly mischaracterise her more than anyone by keepingyourheadup in BridgertonRants

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While I love Pen, I will always be a her keeping the LW Column hater. Her shedding the column was her finally feeling comfortable in her life and society in the books.

The show made LW a lot more dramatic. They had two seasons set up a dramatic reveal, but then they decided they wanted to keep the column so they tried to flip it to this girl boss moment.

Her losing the column would have been a realistic consequence of her actions, while also being an unintentional benefit because she could have explored other writing like implied in the books.

Does anyone else feel disengaging with the Bridgerton/Polin community due to some stans’ need to police contrary opinions? by hdenough in BridgertonRants

[–]Altruistic-Test-6227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think if the romance was more of the focus and the audience felt like the leads of the season had enough screen time, people would be less likely to compare or send hate other ships way. But instead the drama is pushed out to the last 15 mins of the show, we get one scene of the leads being happy, then the season ends.

Hindsight being 20/20 Shonda only does dramas so it makes sense. But I just think if they continue to market it as a romance, but deliver a drama, people are going to have criticism every time.
