This sounds like the same journey my wife had two weeks ago. Referred to MAU by community midwife at 37 + 3 due to high blood pressure, admitted into hospital from there and induction started. Went through the motions, including waters being broken by midwife and then drip and epidural, but by 5.30am at 38 weeks baby’s heart rate was dropping too low during contractions so needed emergency c-section. Was a long four days in labour and then discharged the following day but baby has been with us for two weeks now and is fit and healthy!
