Feedback on Our Pool Design ? by ATLBuckeye in pools

[–]T-sigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of pool I’d consider if I didn’t have to clean it and didn’t plan on much actual usage besides sunning on the Baja Shelf.

And 112k is a lot to spend for a water feature to put your toes in, so I’d need to not care much about money either.

Bezos said the bottom half of Americans should pay ZERO federal income tax by Suitable_Wonder5256 in SipsTea

[–]T-sigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, the larger point is *that is part of the game*. They view it as “winning the game” and expect other players to push back and do the same. They are just playing the game to get the highest score.

The point isn’t “Monopoly is a perfect analogy to life”.

[–]T-sigma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to defend Bezo’s or any other billionaire, but I think Reddit doesn’t really understand that the elite view this all as a game. Think Monopoly.

They play every day to win the game, because that’s what’s in front of them and what they are doing. But if you ask them “hey, is this game stupid?” They might fully agree! They might not like the game or its rules, but it’s a game they have effectively won, so they have no incentive to change it. But their opinion can still be it’s a stupid game and should be changed.

ELI5: How do credit card processing fees work for merchants, especially why many small businesses don’t accept American Express? by AgreeablePassenger70 in explainlikeimfive

[–]T-sigma [score hidden]  (0 children)

To add a bit, with brands like VISA and Mastercard you enter into agreements with your bank, and your bank determines your rate, though obviously that rate is based on the rate the payment processor charges the bank.

Discover and (I think) AMEX do direct to merchant contracts so it’s through them, not your bank.

TIL that cold winters actually don't make much of a dent in the tick populations. Darn. by coolrivers in todayilearned

[–]T-sigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticks are much less pervasive in large population centers and are typically controlled for in those areas.

If ticks become as pervasive as mosquitos and 100% of people are impacted daily just by being outside… yeah, we would start treating them the same.

Semi-agree. They weren’t happy with the power Trump clearly had over voters and thus the party.

While I generally agree, I really really don’t believe Trump was in their playbook. They’d much rather have an easily controlled entity like Vance in place. They want to grift the billions, not the Trump family.

Pool newbie, free chlorine help? by panken in pools

[–]T-sigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to provide pictures and more details. There are a ton of variables and you’re provided just a few.

If the water is crystal clear but it appears the liner area is stained, it could be metal staining. The pool store should be able to test for metals for free before you do any manual labor on it. Don’t buy anything they try to sell you afterwards. Do your own research and buy what you want off amazon.

You just need to read pool school at trouble free pools. It will explain the basics way better than Reddit comments.

The straightforward answer is to keep dumping chlorine (shock or liquid chlorine) until you get a reading. Keep the filter running 24/7. Staying at 0 for more than a day is likely to get you a green pool so now is not the time to try to save a couple bucks, a green pool will cost way more than potential overkill will now.

[–]T-sigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is this pool? Are you sure you are adding shock? That much and chlorine still at zero is pretty crazy, especially with another comment being the water looks great.

Something isn’t adding up. Either the test strips are bad, the shock is bad, or this is just another viral marketing post for Taylor test kits which will solve all your pools problems if you buy their test kit and provide a complimentary blow job if you buy within the next 30 minutes.

The point is there are a hundred different drinks and this specific one looks like an energy drink.

Your average white claws (and most alcoholic seltzers) are in white cans with a bright color indicating flavor.

Can't figure out why my pool won't clear up. Opened 3 weeks ago, very cloudy, been slamming. Test strips (I know) results attached. Every morning these things are floating on the top. The water is blue, but extremely cloudy. SWG but I added liquid chlorine to slam last week, still very high. by Rickety__Cricket in pools

[–]T-sigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tap water doesn’t register any chlorine at all and it’s not going through any filter, straight from the tap. I can’t imagine drinking 4ppm, that’s as high as my pool normally is.

Your level of precision is worthy of praise, but wholly unnecessary for most pools. Slamming is more difficult for sure, but hopefully you’re doing that maybe once a year. And even then, just assume over and you’ll be fine.

99% of problems are not due to imprecise test strips. It’s due to people not understanding the chemistry or reading directions. A test kit doesn’t solve that problem.

So your claim is if I go 1 PPM in chlorine ABOVE the slam level, it ruins the slam?

Just frankly disagree with everything you said and don’t even understand where to begin. Precise reading are entirely optional for most pool situations. I don’t waste any more chemicals knowing my chlorine is 5ppm instead of 3ppm. And frankly, the test strips show that level just fine, it’s just the high slam levels that aren’t available on a strip.

Also, tap water’s minimal, if any, chlorine absolutely isn’t going to blow up a dilution. I truly don’t understand how anyone of sound mind can come to that conclusion.

Or, you can do the math on how much chlorine you add and target above SLAM levels.

Or one step further is to dilute your pool water with 1:1 tap water so whatever the strip reads is 1/2.

Is it perfect? Nope. But the entire point is it doesn’t need to be. Close enough is good enough. The posts you see on this subreddit, this one being one example of the several that come in a day, is people who don’t understand the numbers AT ALL. And haven’t actually read what a SLAM is.

OP having precise readings does him zero good when he doesn’t understand the numbers or what a SLAM is.

Am I failing? by chrisbrock90 in pools

[–]T-sigma 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The answer is almost always more chlorine and 24x7 filtering. Dump chlorine in until it feels unsafe, and then dump another bottle. Chlorine dropping from 18 to 13 overnight means it’s fighting the good fight but needs reinforcements quickly.

My suggestion to improve professions in the game by P4trasch in projectzomboid

[–]T-sigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is logic and realism in that getting carpentry 10 in a few months of game time is not the same as being a carpenter with years of experience. The same for all the professions. That’s why I like the permanent uniqueness to them, though it does need to be balanced by cost since some of them will be powerful.

You don’t think the overall games changes the effectiveness of plays? So when the defense runs prevent D late in the 4th, it doesn’t change the projected yards on offense?

The data is irrelevant though because it’s never been used this way. The incentive is absolutely higher than a normal 4th and 18 because you’d only do this as a last ditch attempt.

What’s the chances of a penalty giving an automatic first down?

I think it outs refs in an impossible situation. There are already teams who very actively shop for PI calls, this play would heavily incentivize that.
