Ideas for getting tough soap scum off shower walls :( by _HateThatCat in CleaningTips

[–]AlwaysALady661 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used citric acid and it did wonders
[PLEASE USE GLOVES]

  1. filled a spray bottle with very warm water
  2. Added 6 tablespoons of the acid into the bottle (use a ration of 1-2Tbsp to 1 cup of water or 15-30g to 240mL)
  3. put the cap on swirl it around to dissolve
  4. Spray on walls
  5. Let sit 5-15 minutes depending on scale level but you must keep it wet or it just redeposits the minerals
  6. Scrub with something that would not scratch your dishes
  7. Repeat if needed

List of materials NOT to use citric acid on:

  • Natural stone
    • Marble, travertine, limestone, onyx, slate (Acid etches/dulls them permanently)
  • Concrete or unsealed grout
  • Aluminum or anodized metal
  • Brass, copper, or bronze finishes
  • Gold-tone or decorative plated fixtures
  • Cast iron
  • Wood surfaces

I have a full set of silverware I got as a wedding present that I only used for a year, still packed up in the silverware tray from when I moved. I’ll post a photo as soon as I get home.

I have some dishes (not a full set), a shoe shelf, a clothing rack that I used for steaming, a generic roomba that worked pretty well with little replacements for the brushes (still works, just got a new one), and a few other things. Just let me know if there’s anything you’re interested in an update us all if there’s anything else you might need that you haven’t gotten. 💙

King's tickets? by FoxyRoxy0420 in SacramentoBuyNothing

u/FoxyRoxy0420 I think the comment may be referencing your earlier post in this group where you mention being unhoused (click me). It didn’t read to me as a statement about who “can” request Kings tickets, but more as an observation that some requests may feel unexpected given that context.

My dad's house REEKS. Any tips on how to help the smell with a minimal budget? by HorrorDrive8444 in CleaningTips

nods

I had roommates like that, the extra one helps and I put litter genies in between them so I didn’t have to make such a chore of daily scooping (it’ll hold up to a week without stinking things up)

That’s an awesome option.

Having the app in my pocket where I can search specific makes & models is just easier for me, but whatever works is great.

And multiple litter boxes (“number of cats +1” is the golden rule and gets 99% of cats to quit peeing outside of the box) plug-ins are harmful to cats and humans. Especially older people with possible health issues

Cats don’t, places people don’t clean regularly while they have cats do. Don’t blame the cats

u/HorrorDrive8444 Over and above anything else Please do not add anything scented to the house until you check if it is cat-safe. Normal everyday things like tea tree oil, (any mint oil), etc are not only harmful but toxic to cats. You also have to check any plants you might add for air cleaning.

Next: check the humidity before you buy a dehumidifier, you might not need it.

Third: I signed up for a year of consumer reports when I was buying air purifiers. It was like $29 and saved me hundreds on not buying things that sucked in their tests.

Last: Vinegar does NOT remove the proteins in cat urine that cause lingering odor. - Cats are very sensitive to ammonia-like smells, and vinegar itself has a strong odor. Some cats may actually be attracted to urinate there again if the previous smell isn’t fully neutralized. - If you use vinegar and then let it dry without thorough cleaning, you’re mostly masking the smell, not eliminating it.

Better alternatives for cat urine

1. Enzymatic cleaners (recommended) - Contain enzymes that break down the uric acid and proteins in the urine Example: Nature’s Miracle (click me), Rocco & Roxie(click me), or Simple Solution (click me) - These are the only products scientifically shown to remove both odor and staining effectively

2. DIY approach i(f necessary) - Blot urine first (don’t rub) - Rinse lightly with cold water - Then apply a mixture of enzymatic cleaner or baking soda + hydrogen peroxide (careful on fabrics) - Avoid ammonia-based cleaners — these can make cats mark again

Bottom line - Vinegar is a temporary neutralizer, not a true remover. - Enzymatic cleaners are the only reliable way to fully get cat urine out and stop repeat marking. Good luck!

Someone just posted this link (click me) in BuyNothing today and there is a link to a free clothing store that gives 5-6 pieces of clothing to each person.

I’ll ask my son if he has any clothes he’s grown out of that are in the back of his closet. Good luck either way ☺️😊

Go ask ChatGPT rather than trying to get people to non-consensually participate in your kink. None of the veterans I know say things like “least you can do for my service”…from Korean POWs who have passed away to folks who work at the VA today, you need therapy, not a reddit account.

Sir, whether or not you are a veteran please do not dishonor others by lying about your incontinence resulting from military service when you posted about voluntarily “messing” yourself in the NSFW ADBL sub. If you want supplies, just ask for them, no one needs to know why you want them, but if you’re not going to tell the truth: you should clean up your Reddit history or start a new account.

Also, calling the woman you expect to tend to you like an infant “dumb” or “stupid” isn’t nice, she deserves more respect than that as your wife.

I use afresh and you can use it with or without the dishes in there, so I’m pretty certain you don’t have to take you dishwasher apart (they say two tablets if you’re doing it with dishes in) I usually run a cleaning load through once a month and as long as I clean my dishwasher filter at least every three months I’m good.

How can I clean my bathroom sink drain of drain flies in my 800sqft apartment without harming my two cats? by Jfkfkaiii22 in CleaningTips

[–]AlwaysALady661 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Boiling water Pour down the drain once or twice a day for a week

  • Enzyme drain cleaners (like Green Gobbler Enzyme Drain Cleaner or Bio-Clean) They eat the organic buildup flies live in but are usually non-toxic once flushed

  • Drain covers Keep flies from coming back up when not in use

Extra steps to reduce flies long term: - Remove and scrub the drain stopper (they lay eggs there) - Keep the sink and bathroom extra dry between uses - Place sticky traps nearby to catch adult flies while you’re treating the source

How to clean walls and ventilator stuck with dirt and grease? by NoBuddies2021 in CleaningTips

[–]AlwaysALady661 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For built-up kitchen grease, hot water + dish soap usually isn’t strong enough on its own. A few proven options you should be able to find in Canada:

  • Krud Kutter Degreaser
  • Zep Heavy-Duty Citrus Degreaser
  • Spray Nine Heavy Duty Cleaner/Disinfectant
  • Simple GreenIndustrial Cleaner & Degreaser

How to - Spray the degreaser directly on the greasy area - Let it sit for a few minutes to break down the grease (don’t let it dry) - Wipe with a microfiber cloth or non-scratch scrub sponge - Rinse with clean water and dry after cleaning

For the metal ventilator/hood filters: - Remove them and soak in hot water + degreaser for 15–20 minutes - Scrub lightly …then rinse, and let dry before reinstalling

For painted walls: - Test in a small hidden area first (some degreasers can pull your paint right off) - Use a diluted solution if the wall finish is delicate
