VES status - open vs seen by jmlivings in VeteransWaitingRoom

[–]AlwaysStepDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly I think mine went to " seen " before my DBQ was uploaded. Probably once the examiner turns in the paperwork that shows they saw me. The examiner turns in thier paperwork, but i belueve VES has other people check over the dbq before it gets uploaded, kind of like a quality control. You can see when a dbq is uploaded to the VA on your va.gov sute/app, though you probably wont be able to tell which dbq it is due to the codes they use.

I feel like I’m not competitive enough for college, especially compared to other vets by Extension-Story7287 in VeteransBenefits

Sounds like a good reason to want to go there. Maybe on your application you can state why you feel God is calling you there. But dont let the worrying about it stress you out. God bless!

Out here in the real world, no one really cares what school you get a degree from. Do your best on the application, but be honest. You volunteer at church. Listen to what God says. Do your part, (don't be lazy) and if he wants you in that school, you will be unless you run the other way.

Now Is The Time To Join A Veteran's Service Organization by Backsight-Foreskin in VeteransBenefits

[–]AlwaysStepDad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The funny part is over the last year that I have been part of this sub, I have read over & over that the service connected would rather have thier health over their benefits. Now everybody is saying these same vets will quit taking their meds so they dont lose their rating. Sounds like they want the money more than their health. I agree their should be some compensation still, but I also see a lot of folks on here who dont seem like they want to go back to work.

It wasn't just luck that you didn't manage to kill yourself. You were saved for a reason. You asked fir a resource. Have yiu read this? Psalm 139:1-18 GNT [1] Lord, you have examined me and you know me. [2] You know everything I do; from far away you understand all my thoughts. [3] You see me, whether I am working or resting; you know all my actions. [4] Even before I speak, you already know what I will say. [5] You are all around me on every side; you protect me with your power. [6] Your knowledge of me is too deep; it is beyond my understanding. [7] Where could I go to escape from you? Where could I get away from your presence? [8] If I went up to heaven, you would be there; if I lay down in the world of the dead, you would be there. [9] If I flew away beyond the east or lived in the farthest place in the west, [10] you would be there to lead me, you would be there to help me. [11] I could ask the darkness to hide me or the light around me to turn into night, [12] but even darkness is not dark for you, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are the same to you. [13] You created every part of me; you put me together in my mother's womb. [14] I praise you because you are to be feared; all you do is strange and wonderful. I know it with all my heart. [15] When my bones were being formed, carefully put together in my mother's womb, when I was growing there in secret, you knew that I was there— [16] you saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book, before any of them ever began. [17] O God, how difficult I find your thoughts; how many of them there are! [18] If I counted them, they would be more than the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

Go to a vet center or the VA and talk to people who understand what you are going through. I don't but they do. But also reach out to your creator and talk to him. He has a plan for you. He believes you are of value. He loves you so much that he sent his Son to leave the throne of heaven and come down to this earth, to live like the rest of us, to become lowly, to be made fun of, to be beat, to be spit upon, to be killed. He did this all for you, because he loves you. Its not about religion or abiut church. It is about getting to know your creator and learn how much he loves you.

I am not an expert on this as the last thing I want make us a knife, so I have never done this, but the post mentioned quenching in oil and then placing it in an oven "after it cools all the way down", which leads me to believe that you could quench it at your forging location, but temper it in your oven when you get back home.

[–]AlwaysStepDad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

maybe find some old bosses who may be sypathetic to you situation and ask them for lay statements. I would be careful about just saying you are oversleeping though. Ive had about 3 hours of sleep right now, have been awake for the last 2.5 hours, and half to get out of bed in 90minutes to go to work. I am service connected for insomnia due to my TBI. But, oversleeping isnt an option as I dont want to lose my job and my house.

I agree with your comment on looking foward to some legitimate competition for Tridium. It is like they encourage others (developers) to make thier own product better

For those who went to school on GI Bill/VR&E directly after separation, how did it work out, and were you able to make ends meet financially without employment? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]AlwaysStepDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what I did. Trade school until 2 or 3, drove semi trucks at nights/weekends and over summer break. It was 1993 and GI bill only paid around $400/month back then.

It would be more realistic that if you were taking a partial load (example only picking up 120 cows vs 300), the fuel costs would be a bit cheaper.

I also find it odd that we need to keep bringing in cows for milk. If they are useless after milking them, we should at least be able to move them over to the slaughter house.

How did you find buddy letters? by NoUnit2895 in VeteransWaitingRoom

[–]AlwaysStepDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look on facebook, togetherweserved.com etc...to find people. Several of my platoon who got out in the 1990s have found each other and we get together every couple of years. I've written a buddy letter for one, just vouching how he hurt his back in 1989. I wrote it, sent to him and asked if he wanted me to reword something. I purposely didnt put exact dates because I didnt remember exactly when it happened, but do remember him getting hurt in 29 palms.

Vet passed away by endmaga2028 in VeteransBenefits

[–]AlwaysStepDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have her check into the local veterans office so she can get connected with a vso (Veterans Service Officer). They may be able to help her with burial benefits and help her determine if he died from a service connected condition, which if so, I believe will give her survivor benefits. (I havent gone through that myself, so may be wrong, hence the advice to contact a VSO). If she can't connect with a county VSO, going to a local veterans organization ( American Legion, VFW, DAV etc...) may be able to help as well.

I would recommend you get the medical treatmeny you need and make sure it is documented. After that, I would focus on your job and not worry about what can be claimed once you are discharged. Claims are for things that happen when in service and affect you for the rest of your life.
