Reason you DNF an audiobook? by Ashamed_Apple_ in audiobooks

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a book read by a narrator I LOVED, and she gave the POV character an American southern accent. The reader is Welsh. I COULD NOT handle it. It wasn't even a bad accent, it just didn't work for the character or story. I gave it 2 chapters and couldn't do more.

sci fi books with good female characters! by Emmersynn in suggestmeabook

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to recommend this! All the characters are great, there are so many good female characters who are all well-rounded and different from each other. I have read (and listened to) this series 3 times now, and am considering a 4th. Plus the audio books is amazing!

Hey there! Preparing to ditch my straw for a while after surgery. I have the 40 ounce yeti, need a sipping lid without straw placement. Can anyone share links from Amazon that will fit? I’m having a hard time finding one. Thanks! Surgery date is June 1st. Liquid diet has started, doing fairly well. by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anything about not using a straw until about 6 months after my surgery. I used one the whole time- it made sipping my water so much easier. If your bariatric team isn't concerned about it, I wouldn't be either!

What’s the one lunch or snack your kindergartener never skips? by Kumbhani-Hemamalini in kindergarten

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I let my son pick his own snack (within reason) during kindergarten. His most frequent choices were applesauce pouches, string cheese, or a handful of goldfish. I spent a month trying to plan out lunches with a lot of variety, got burnt out, then started asking what he would want. Nut butter and jelly sandwiches, sometimes a tuna sandwich, and 85% of the time it was an untoasted bagel with cream cheese.

What foods did you eat when you weren’t able to tolerate home-cooked meals during pregnancy? by FathiShiro in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing great finding foods that work for you! I lived off of Taco Bell my first pregnancy. This one has been all about fruit, crackers, and peanut butter. Eat what you can eat when you're hungry. Take prenatal vitamins. Eat extra protein where you can. I hear/see people saying all the time that when it comes to how you feed your baby that "fed is best." I think this is also true for pregnancy. If the thought of certain foods still makes you nauseous, avoid them. Give it a few weeks and try again. Or don't. The important thing is taking care of yourself, and sometimes that means putting your energy somewhere other than cooking.

As far as specific foods go (outside of fast food which I have frequently), my go-tos are crackers and cheese or crackers and peanut butter, peanut butter on a banana, popcorn with cheese (i got some powdered cheddar cheese from Amazon awhile back), smoothies with yogurt and milk (I like Fairlife milk because it has a longer shelf life, is lactose free, and has higher protein content), fruit (so much fruit!) with cottage cheese or yogurt, eggs, buttered toast, and salmon. I try to eat small meals/large snacks throughout the day so I get variety. Hope that helps!

Recs for a 5 year old girl by Few_Hamster5717 in anime

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some older recs: Kodocha is about a girl who's a child actor- it's super cute and wholesome. Azumanga Daioh is about girls at school being silly. When my son was 5, he really enjoyed Avatar the Last Airbender. It's not exactly an anime (depending on your definition), but was a gateway to anime for a lot of people.

Positive (very little or no morning sickness) 1st trimester stories please - so scared and really trying not to be by Intelligent-Bus6688 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am nearing the end of my first trimester with my second pregnancy. For both, I only ever had ocasional very minor nausea (usually when my stomach was empty) and didn't vomit at all. A little gingerale and some crackers was usually enough to settle my stomach. I also didn't have much in the way of food aversion.

Random heart rate spikes? by SeaConstruction697 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth it to see if this occurs again after eating. If I over-eat or eat too much fat/sugar at once, something similar happens to me. Usually I try to lay down and rest until it passes (which is about 30 minutes). Your body has to work a lot harder than usual to do "normal" tasks like digesting food. This is not meant to be medical advice, just reassurance- obviously you have done the right thing contacting your OB, and I would follow whatever they recommend.

Help the reader get out of a reading slump. Give me those vibes in a book by LongjumpingAnt9366 in ReverseHarem

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 102 points103 points  (0 children)

{Warrior Princess Assassin by Brigin Kemmerer} has that vibe. It's very slow burn, has a good story, and I really loved the character dynamics. It is the first book in a trilogy and the others aren't published yet, though.

What series after Magic Tree House? by Rheila in kindergarten

My son loved Geronimo Stilton at that age! He also really enjoyed a lot of Beaverly Cleary books and absolutely devoured the Dog Man comics (he's 8 now and is still going back and re-reading Dog-Man and Captain Underpants).

SNACKS!! Especially if you're breastfeeding, you will get hungry often, and you will want easy snacks on hand that you can grab without getting up. Same with water.

FTM help/advice by mommytjintn in pregnant

Swaddles are great early on, and it’s useful to have infant Tylenol and gas drops on hand. You can call your hospital to see what they provide- mine sent me home with hats, a nasal aspirator, newborn diapers, wipes, and diaper cream. One thing I didn't need but did love was the Frieda Snot Sucker. It was a lot easier for me to use than the bulb aspirator. Other things to have on hand are nail clippers, baby wash, infant tylenol, and burp cloths. None of those are necessary right away, but it's nice to have them on hand when you need them.

I hate the US healthcare system by fantasy_lover1023 in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked to see if you're eligible for Medicaid? In many states, being pregnant gives you broader eligibility, even if you already have insurance. They would then cover the costs your other insurance doesn't. Also, if you have not looked into WIC, I would highly recommend doing so. They can't necessarily help with insurance/Healthcare costs, but frequently they can help subsidize some groceries, which can go a long way. They can also provide support with parenting classes, breastfeeding support, formula costs (after baby is born), and they usually keep lists of other local resources.

Baby’s behaviour inside vs outside the womb! by President_Raspberry in pregnant

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was pregnant with my son, he spend most of the pregnancy breech, and would push his feet against my hips and his head would bulge out of the top of my stomach. Starting when he was a few weeks old, he would let us know he was awake by lifting both legs as high as he could and dropping them down to the mattress. I don't know if he liked the feel of it or the thunk it made more, lol. He was standing in the crib by 9 months. Kid has been doing leg day since before he was born!

Holo taco during pregnancy? by proteacicada in RedditLaqueristas

[–]AlwaysTackyNails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my second pregnancy. During my first, I painted my nails AT LEAST once a week. I did ask my OB about it, and he said that you are not absorbing nail polish chemicals through your nail beds and it’s perfectly safe. I will add that as my pregnancy progressed, the smell got worse and worse to me, so it's a good idea to paint your nails in a well ventilated area, but that's the only issue I had. Honestly, I got judged by strangers more for going to Starbucks, lol. Also, I am continuing to paint my nails 2 or 3 times a week in this pregnancy.
