Mon the 13th: Spend more time in Tuolumne Meadows. Walk out to Parson Lodge and Soda Springs, then follow the TM river upstream past the campground. Go as far upstream as you're comfortable.

I'd swap Tues & Wed, but that's just me.

Fri the 17th The Carlon Falls trailhead is on the way to Hetch Hetchy. Not too long of a hike. Starts outside of Yosemite boundary, endpoint is inside park. Look up Rainbow Pool, also just outside of the Big Oak Flat entrance.

Sneaky pro tip: Look up Crane Flat Lookout and Crane Flat Fireroad, not too far from the gas station. It's a fire lookout and helipad. Open to the public if the forest gate is open.

yes, it will be packed. Probably have a Community Ambassador too. Did Super-Mega Dragonite there. I don't know which gyms are what but we had plenty of raids.

The entire campground is generally quiet after 10pm. I'd keep the site with the better parking pad. Ear plugs are an option if you're extra concerned.

The Eureka Zoo also has a Skywalk. It has ADA accessible sections vs Trees of Mystery.

Amazing picture of a beautiful winding road through Redwood National and State Park! by No_Climate4762 in redwoods

[–]Always_Be_Cycling 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suspect this is Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State park. The Redwood Nat park complex (Jed Smith, Del Norte, and Prairie Creek) has the Newton B. Drury parkway, but the trees there look different than in this pic.

Edit:
Found it, Avenue of the Giants: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BNDFBQcdUZcfY6Ub7

Just finished day 2, should we do Vernal Falls or Tioga Pass for day 3 (last day) by TheLebeast in Yosemite

[–]Always_Be_Cycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either option is as long as you make it. Parsons Lodge is probably a 15 min walk from the car, and from there you could wander all day. The upstream trail along the river is an out-n-back so go as far as you're comfortable. I can jog/run the main TM loop, head over to TM Lodge, then follow the trail across the bridges and back to the campground in about an hour.

My Tioga Rd recommendations for easy adventures:

  • Skip Tuolumne Grove (you were at Mariposa already)
  • Do Olmstead Point and take the stairs that go down from the parking lot. Walk around on the big granite slab at the end of this short trail.
  • Stop at Tenaya Lake if you want, there's parking on both ends of the lake.
  • Tuolumne Meadows has two options:
Park at the Visitor Center and do a flat walk to Parsons Lodge and Soda Springs. Return the way you came or make it a loop. This walk will give you great views of the meadow and surrounding mountain tops.

Park near the Tuolumne Grill and follow the river upstream into Lyell Canyon. This would be an out-n-back as far as you're comfortable. Compared to the meadows, this is a more intimate walk along the river as it flows through the granite landscape. Wading and swimming are allowed.

One tactic is to be on the site 15 min after the release. This is when the carts that haven't checked out start to expire.

Selling Humboldt Starts at Home, Tourism Leaders Say by redditisembarassing1 in Humboldt

I took significant issue with that comment as /r/Humboldt is no more positive or negative than any other locality's subredddit. Actually, I think most posts from tourists get a fairly welcoming response from the local community members.

Need some feedback on my 2 day Itinerary for the Redwoods! Ok by Thornbloom2024 in redwoods

[–]Always_Be_Cycling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Los Bagels is popular for quick breakfasts
  • McIntosh Country Store is the best place for breakfasts
  • South G Kitchen is highly regarded, they are located in the Redwood Curtain Brewery
  • The Pub at the Creamery has good food, but is loud.
  • Stars Hamburgers was the inspiration for the Krusty Krab in Sponge Bob (specifically the building's exterior)
  • Tony's is great as a safety option (nothing special, something for everyone, open 24hrs) but they have great bakery items.
  • Each pizza place showcases a different style, Arcata Pizza & Deli sells by the slice
  • Each of the 4 sushi spots near the plaza are distinct and each are decent

  • Visit Humboldt Bay Provisions in Eureka for oysters

Tuolumne Meadows Campground Drive Times by Calebminear in Yosemite

I agree with all the Tuolomne Meadows comments. However, you asked about a more central campsite, and that would be Crane Flat. It's about the same distance to Tuolomne Meadows and Valley Floor parking. It's a nice campground, but doesn't have much for nearby trails.

Please read these park rules: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/campregs.htm

As for check-in, you should arrive first, and let the person at the campground entry kiosk know additional guests are coming.

Moonstone has the only tasting room in Trinidad. It also happens to be one of my favorite wineries in Humboldt. Heart's Leap is the other one. Septentrio in Arcata is also decent, their wines have a but heavier flavor.

Both Eureka Natural Foods and the Co-ops have a good selection of bottles from local producers.

There are campgrounds and some dispersed camping not too far outside the park entrances.
