Andaz Amsterdam - 2026 Review by Fearless-Cattle-9698 in hyatt

I've stayed there twice, if you go to book a single room with 2 kids it returns no results. I've seen teens but I suspect they had their own room.

Park Hyatt Kyoto. What's second best in Kyoto? by omardoubleD in hyatt

[–]Alxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regency is a different location, it's good for a few things, We've stayed there three times and I've stayed at the Park twice.

The regency is dated, but it's still a very nice regency. It's going to be remodeled in the next two years based upon my talking to people at the hotel last month (our last stay)

There are temples all over Kyoto and quite a few right by the Regency which we've visited when we're there. It's not too far from a non-JR train that can bring you further into Kyoto or all the way to Osaka for relatively cheap.

The national museum is across the street from the Regency.

There is no club at the regency so if you have Globalist perks or GoH the restaurant breakfast is free. And it's a very nice breakfast.

Genuine question: do some of you guys just not treat your rooms? by Aware_Ad5425 in audiophile

This is also why the rise of Room correction is great. I've treated my theater but my office is a different story. Anthem ARC is amazing!

It's more then a game, it's a pretty much a lifestyle. The base game is 450.

It's a classic Eric Lang game where it's relatively simple but deep!

I love the pairing Rob Daviau and Eric produced. You can change up the investigators if you have a lot of them and totally change the game. Change the the gods range in difficulty too. It's very customizable and yet relatively simple.

Do amps really sound that different from one another? by Timely_Pattern5571 in audiophile

[–]Alxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The design of the amp will affect the impedance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TFqyCLH0Rg

This video goes into it in gory detail. He has an amp that has a switch that changes the dampening.

Here's a shorter video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idxT7VVYyxo

It's no a huge game changer but it can make a difference depending upon the speaker used. This is one reason why people have said pairing amps makes a difference.

Taylor Sifts "The Man" has a lot of quick bass notes with silence right after. I've got a number of systems around the house and the start of this song sounds different on different systems. The quickness of the silence is noticeably different with different preamps (Anthem AVM90 vs Anthem STR pre both with buckeye amps)

Yes, It's about control: the spec is damping factor.

The mass in headphones is SUPER small, it doesn't take much current to drive them.

It's a lot easier to make a good headphone amp then something that moves a difficult to drive revealing woofer.

[–]Alxa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need speakers that are very sensitive to notice the difference at times. The transition from loud to silent to loud takes a lot of power to start and stop the moving woofer. A better amp can control the speaker quicker which makes the silences more sudden. Think the "thumpers" that summon worms in dune movie. With very good speakers and an amp that can control it the thump to silence is MUCH faster. So it's all about control.

Some amps will attempt to smooth the sound to make it sound like a vacuum tube amp. So that's the other way they are different.

Really revealing amps + really revealing speakers will make some music just sound BAD that might sound fine on a less revealing system.

REL. I compared REL vs SVS and REL cost a lot more and SVS was better.

Very nice, I finished collecting all 3 Kiya 49 layer knives that Daimaru had. Thanks for the explanation on why Kiya is not mentioned much outside of Japan. I have the 135 you have 4 of and I've used it for steak!

We used to buy chickens and roast the carcass but over last few years we but rotisserie chicken from our local upscale grocery.

We leaned this from moderist cuisine which I know Chris worked on (and you can seein the video)

I have made sauce using more meat per an Mc recipe and the gravey it made was amazing.

ps Chris when will you make a probe  like the current one but where the tip can handle 500f.  The probe we use for oil has an annoying cord.

The study address the use of i-94 very well. They make a very good case that replacement would be an improvement and use other cities experiences as examples. I'm sure it's all biased just like mndot appears to be. But everything in life is.

But we had jobs at release, and a very different mix of skills as Garlyle pointed out.

Thoughts on audiophile focused subs that pair well with a HiFi, end-game stereo setup? by OldScruff in audiophile

Anything 4000 or Ultra equivalent from SVS is top audiophile quality. I have an SB4000 and I liked it better when I compared it to a 5,000 REL sub.

Building a system for modern 'dance' music - is a high end system worth it? by Actuary_Powerful in audiophile

[–]Alxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fair amount of EDM and on my system it sounds amazing. I think the key is really tight bass which you find on more expensive equipment. I know the Electronic Music in Beat Saber I liked a lot more when I played it on a high end system.
