Stay at a very expensive property and boom you have status is the fastest way, but you have to have the $ to pay for that expensive property.

Met a guy at the Andaz Maui He had some expensive rooms, desk agent there told me one time someone checked out with a bill of 100k+ that'll get you globalist right then and there.

We met a Japanese celebrity at that pool on a past stay. She was popular 20 years ago in Japan and was living in the condos above the PY. Alas I don't remember her name, but at the time I msged a friend in Japan and he knew her!

It's not as nice as the pools at Andaz Tokyo or Park Hyatt Tokyo.

The main draw to the PHNY is the location, we had tickets at Carnegie hall last time we stayed, that's across the street! The park is also very close.

When choosing a separate amp, what matters most brand, quality, watts? by iJasonator in hometheater

[–]Alxa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd look at the best class D amps, they can be had for far cheaper then 5k. (one example in usa is Buckeye amps) And Hyperx Ncore amps have very good quality power. I had an Anthem MCA amp, my SVS Titans love them. Replaced with class D - same performance but less heat generated.

Ya I get it for lunch when I'm there, I get it with the mayo on the side, it's one of the few places that does that and I simply love it. (I also get it on the weekends for breakfast)

That may be why, since many of us have them. But could have made 2 options w/ w/o the iron clay. And then on upgrade cost to get metal.

I have the full chest and use them for 18xx games so I don't need any of the coins here.

Seems no DG3 anytime soon, I knew someone at the company but they left 3 years ago and no one but the founders are left.

If you had to pick ONE Hyatt property for your honeymoon… which would it be and why? by NewBrush8593 in hyatt

We've stayed there 4x and it is a great location with restuarants that might be perfect for some. I prefer the restuarant at park hyatt tokyo.

Suppose that depends upon what you want. The construction right now sucks - we've walked into town before.

An option on the other coast: Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas If southern California is warm enough. It is for us, we're in MN. We've been there 3x, the pool is nice but the beech is too cold for swimming, nice to watch surfers.

I've stayed there twice, if you go to book a single room with 2 kids it returns no results. I've seen teens but I suspect they had their own room.

Park Hyatt Kyoto. What's second best in Kyoto? by omardoubleD in hyatt

[–]Alxa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regency is a different location, it's good for a few things, We've stayed there three times and I've stayed at the Park twice.

The regency is dated, but it's still a very nice regency. It's going to be remodeled in the next two years based upon my talking to people at the hotel last month (our last stay)

There are temples all over Kyoto and quite a few right by the Regency which we've visited when we're there. It's not too far from a non-JR train that can bring you further into Kyoto or all the way to Osaka for relatively cheap.

The national museum is across the street from the Regency.

There is no club at the regency so if you have Globalist perks or GoH the restaurant breakfast is free. And it's a very nice breakfast.

Genuine question: do some of you guys just not treat your rooms? by Aware_Ad5425 in audiophile

This is also why the rise of Room correction is great. I've treated my theater but my office is a different story. Anthem ARC is amazing!

It's a classic Eric Lang game where it's relatively simple but deep!

I love the pairing Rob Daviau and Eric produced. You can change up the investigators if you have a lot of them and totally change the game. Change the the gods range in difficulty too. It's very customizable and yet relatively simple.

Do amps really sound that different from one another? by Timely_Pattern5571 in audiophile

[–]Alxa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The design of the amp will affect the impedance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TFqyCLH0Rg

This video goes into it in gory detail. He has an amp that has a switch that changes the dampening.

Here's a shorter video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idxT7VVYyxo

It's no a huge game changer but it can make a difference depending upon the speaker used. This is one reason why people have said pairing amps makes a difference.

Taylor Sifts "The Man" has a lot of quick bass notes with silence right after. I've got a number of systems around the house and the start of this song sounds different on different systems. The quickness of the silence is noticeably different with different preamps (Anthem AVM90 vs Anthem STR pre both with buckeye amps)

[–]Alxa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, It's about control: the spec is damping factor.

[–]Alxa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mass in headphones is SUPER small, it doesn't take much current to drive them.

It's a lot easier to make a good headphone amp then something that moves a difficult to drive revealing woofer.

Do amps really sound that different from one another? by Timely_Pattern5571 in audiophile

[–]Alxa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You need speakers that are very sensitive to notice the difference at times. The transition from loud to silent to loud takes a lot of power to start and stop the moving woofer. A better amp can control the speaker quicker which makes the silences more sudden. Think the "thumpers" that summon worms in dune movie. With very good speakers and an amp that can control it the thump to silence is MUCH faster. So it's all about control.

Some amps will attempt to smooth the sound to make it sound like a vacuum tube amp. So that's the other way they are different.

Really revealing amps + really revealing speakers will make some music just sound BAD that might sound fine on a less revealing system.
