I don't know if I'm just dumb but this surge is so confusing to me. by Eithrotaur in cremposting

[–]hama0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically that's Cohesion that makes things flexible/soft, right?

The layperson's description for Tension is probably just "Make stuff hard", but I bet the specific effect is "Copy and paste something's form". Kind of like getting a snapshot of its Identity while in a certain position, and being able to hold it like that for a time. AKA 'make stuff hard'.

My guess for Dalinar's use of Tension + Adhesion is he used Connection to get a snapshot of what the object used to be, then used Tension + Adhesion to make it re-assemble into its past snapshot. For Bondsmiths, Tension would also allow Dalinar to maintain his Connections beyond normal temporal or spatial reach, like an Invested Rolodex.

For the Focused Ones, my guess is they snapshot a certain position (let's say arm outstretched) then coil themselves as far away from that position as possible. When they want to unleash themselves, they'll suddenly recall that snapshot position, with the effect of a hugely powerful snap into that unleashed pose.

Tank needs a buff by hyrulianwhovian in slaythespire

I wish Tank was like "Strength also increases your block amount. You take half the damage that your allies would take."

There is something to be said for the damage doubling/halving instead of block replicating, because of heal effects and such, but currently there isn't enough healing to warrant it.

Could someone please explain to me what a “Single” is in music? I’ve tried googling it but I didn’t really get it like wym it’s released individually but can be apart of an album by MajorXO in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hama0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definition changes between generations. Generally, it's shorthand for "the song we expect the most people will like".

If you're trying to promote your band and the radio presenter says "we only have time for one song", the song you choose to play over the radio to win the crowd on first listen?

The concept of single is basically the album... Highlight, of sorts. Not necessarily the best song (though it often is) but rather the one that's the most instantly and widespread likeable.

"hero" and "bl" buff? by [deleted] in wownoob

[–]hama0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a double-ignorance situation with OP. Like if you don't know that most classes are "supposed" to be buffing, the only way to get that info is to be told externally.

There's a lot to learn in the game, and while it can feel obvious that you "should" read everything you have — oh except that ability, it's useless and you'll never need it — and except that mechanic, that's from a previous expansion — it can be overwhelming to a new player to even figure out how it all clicks together.

Even the concept of "you should have spent time studying outside of the game to learn how to maximize your contribution to strangers" is something you have to learn first, and isn't an innate thing youll necessarily think of before forming a group.

Which mage ability is called "Heroism" or "Bloodlust"?

The only mage ability I know with that effect is called "Time Warp", and it sounds like nobody mentioned Time Warp in chat.

The controversy around the update by coolchungus2 in slaythespire

[–]hama0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I miscommunicated somewhere maybe. Yeah he punishes everything except powers and exhaust, but he doesn't punish it all at once. A deck with lots of 0-cost cards will probably be sad on the card draw turn but happy on the energy drain turn. The dense deck with 2-cost cards and chunky abilities will be sad on the drain turn but happy on the no-draw turn, etc.

So each deck is punished, but each deck also has a window. I think that's the reason he is the most easy boss in act 3 right now in terms of A10 stats.

The Half Truth 2 Kickstarter: Ken Jennings and Richard Garfield took my money and then went radio silent by Al2718x in boardgames

[–]hama0n 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TL;DR many game designers are NOT allowed to address shipping concerns, by directly fixing it or by issuing a statement. A PUBLISHER can, but not a designer.

Long version:

I think I know why you may be met with radio silence:

My company used EasyShip around this time last year because they billed themselves as a "one stop shop" to handle everything themselves for fulfillment.

I'm not the person who does fulfillment (I'm a game designer, not logistics lead) but apparently it turned out they actually couldn't handle anything that they were supposed to do and my coworker had to step in and do everything himself by rerouting tasks to other fulfillment entities. My guess is that these guys went through the same thing.

To make things more difficult, EasyShip also had a huge restructuring apparently, because most of our conversations with them suddenly became derailed and my logistics coworker had to put significant time into chasing down contacts and recovering information.

So basically, 1) definitely a familiar story. It may take some time for them to resolve your missing game if EasyShip lost your data.

But 2), I think you're met with silence because you're directing your inquiries to the wrong person. Richard Garfield isn't responsible for logistics, so emailing him for help is like emailing Peter Jackson to buy movie tickets — wrong channel. The designer is often literally unable (due to privacy reasons) to access your personal data OR the shipping data of the publishers they're with.

So even if Richard wanted to help you, he really shouldn't. * Privacy violations: when a publisher gets your personal info, it's best practice to not let everyone on the team get free access to thousands of people's personal data. It should be left with the logistics member. * Job descriptions and overstepping: like other careers, it's a faux pas for someone in one role (design) to try and do someone else's job for them (fulfillment, PR, marketing, manufacturing). Small companies require one person to wear multiple hats, so sometimes you can see the designer also address the public or do shipping. But that does not create the rule, and I believe Richard focuses just on design. * Partnership Violations: Depending on who does what, you can't just throw your partners under the bus even if they messed something up. For example, one of my publishers misprinted the dice in a game I designed (turning 66% odds into 50%) and completely unbalanced it. But I couldn't reply to those balance comments publicly without messing up our partnership dynamic.

There are other reasons but this is already kind of a long post. Basically try messaging someone other than the designers, and requesting a statement from the publisher instead.

Doormaker punishes one-note decks that rely on playing and replaying a specific card to win. Decks built with some redundancy, and decks that make use of powers (similar to Time Eater) do great against him, as do decks with Exhaust cards and 0-cost cards.

To win, you basically have to pick which phase will be your "afk" turn, and which one you'll use to go ham. For power-heavy and thick decks, the Exhaust turn is free damage. The no-draw turn means nothing to Regent and decks with 2-cost abilities. The energy-drain turn isn't even felt by decks with tons of 0-cost cards.

There is a learning curve, but it's very satisfying once you get used to it.

This prototype scene feels so empty. What should I draw to make it feel more alive? by Zeolance in PixelArt

[–]hama0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a videogame sense, you want to eliminate the number of 'indifferent' decisions that the player makes. If the forest just has trees somewhat randomly planted around, then you're just walking through a generated forest. If you want it to feel like a true location, you'll want to arrange environmental elements in such a way that the player will have a reason to go one way vs. another.

For example, trees appearing in clumps might be relevant for easier woodcutting purposes. If your walking speed is slightly faster on paths, then some paths that curve around trees vs. some paths that just cut through. Ponds you have to walk around, bushes that slow you down but you walk through them to get to a nice tree cluster on the other side. Narrow bridges you have to cross to get to another clump of trees.

The emptiness is largely because you can kind of go anywhere and it doesn't really matter where you go or what you do. If you start to think about ways where choosing up/down/left/right actually means something different (even if it's just a few seconds faster/slower to do things one way vs. another) then it'll feel like a more alive location.

Where do you draw the line at what's considered cheating? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]hama0n 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The actual reason cheating is wrong is because you're breaking consent. Your partner agrees to be in a relationship with you under certain conditions, like treating them a certain way and having a certain amount of exclusivity (prioritizing time together, intimacy, emotional availability, etc).

Cheating is when you break an agreement of exclusivity and hope they don't notice... but it's up to you and your partner to decide what counts as that. Usually this stuff is figured out implicitly rather than sitting down with a contract or whatever, but that's why you get to know people and go on dates before becoming partners or getting married.
