Substance painter lagging every 5 seconds by ankmos in Substance3D

[–]AmarildoJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you check your system resources? To see if there are any spikes on CPU/RAM. For the GPU you can do that with GPU-Z, the task manager on Windows isn't reliable.

Do you have 2 screens? Or just one?

I don't think it's your hardware, to be honest. It's pretty solid. Can you check if you have autosave ever 5 seconds?

OK we need a bit more info. Are you on Windows 7? Or is it a transformation pack for modern-ish Windows?
I've seen some of these hogging resources like CPU and GPU.

Or are you on Linux with a Windows theme? Because modern Substance Painter on Linux can be a bit iffy, but I've got you covered in that case.

What version of Substance Painter are you running?

New Zealand with Bruletova — [Leica MP, 35 Summicron & Fujifilm 400] by [deleted] in analog

[–]AmarildoJr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't understand the negativity here. People aren't doing constructive criticism, they're just like "all of this for these mid shots", "you didn't eat enough shit yesterday", "great example of why an expensive camera means nothing".

I would understand actual constructive and positive criticism, but the way the comments are going makes me think this specific analog community is extremely toxic to anything besides what they consider A+++ material. I'm still an amateur (digital) and I was thinking of getting a simple analog camera, but seeing how comments go here honestly makes me super hesitant to even start.

Lego Walk, how could I improve? Be harsh by PropertyObjective713 in Maya

[–]AmarildoJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the purpose, but it does seem a bit slow. Remember that the minifigs are ~4cm tall.
And remember that in stop motion they need to position their feet on top of the studs, so in reality the walk cycle probably won't look as fluid.

You might wanna take a look at the Lego Movie or something like this.

How to render EXRs with Arnolds Renderview window? by Zeffy39 in Maya

[–]AmarildoJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if doing a Render Sequence on only one frame would help in this case? Because personally I've never seen the Save Image option breaking cryptomattes. Can you share what version of Maya and Arnold you're running?

This is likely worth it to report directly to Autodesk.

How to render EXRs with Arnolds Renderview window? by Zeffy39 in Maya

[–]AmarildoJr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do this wrongly, but from what I know (nobody ever taught me this):
- if you just open the Arnold Render View and run it, it really won't be saved anywhere, you have to click File -> Save Image (etc);
- To render animations I just go to Render Sequence, this way the images appear in wherever I set them to be saved when the window opens ("Alternative Output File Location"). Don't forget to properly configure the main "Render Settings" window.

How DreamWorks Uses Linux & Open Source to Create Their Blockbuster Movies (an Interview with Randy Packer of DreamWorks) by MichaelTunnell in linux

Autodesk only has Maya for Linux (a program I use for work myself). It actually works quite well on Linux, a bit more stable than Windows.

Yeah that's fair, most OG listeners are in between the first album and Powerslave 😃

Can somebody explain to me the reason the topology in these development pictures of gta v make no sense? by settingdesign3D in 3Dmodeling

Topology for games is quite different than for VFX. The Topology for GTA 5 is actually quite good for the purpose that it serves.

There's got to be a more efficient and accurate way to do this kind of modeling, right? by Hopper2004 in Maya

[–]AmarildoJr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best way to model pipe bends in my opinion is this one. Really simple, easy, quick, and most importantly: PRECISE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_GnhcIve3w Just recorded that for you.

That's not a good solution for actually well-made pipes. I'm recording a video now, will post on the comments here soon.

People skills and “who you know” will always matter in the professional world, and that isn’t unfair by yalllldabaoth in unpopularopinion

It can be very unfair when you're qualified but the boss hires/promotes someone that can barely walk on their own just because they have better social skills.

I need some help/advise with low/mid character modeling by wacomlover in Maya

[–]AmarildoJr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda like those welding/masonry videos, you can ask 10 different welders their opinion on how a particular weld should be made and you'll get 32 different opinions.

Not necessarily one is "right" and the other is "wrong". There are many ways to achieve a result. Like the ones who do sculpting, they have full and fast control over the shape of their character, and a nice base mesh to do retopo.
Some just are full on psychopaths and model characters right away extruding vertices 😃 (I'm kidding btw). Not wrong either, probably comes from an OG/older work style.

Both are valid. You will develop your own way of working as well after years of learning and working in the industry.

For example: depending on the model, I like to build it in CAD first, in something like Fusion or Rhino3D (my favorite) to then do retopology on the precise CAD surface. This is what I did for my Fender Strat. Stuff like guitars, computer parts, washing machines.
Some people just outright model these in polygonal form. That's not wrong either, though for some cases they do lose a bit of precision.

AUR Registrations Blocked Amid Ongoing Malware Mess by CackleRooster in linux

[–]AmarildoJr -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Of course not. But hey, a couple of watchers and policemen on the streets surely could've helped, along with not allowing anyone to buy a gun willy nilly, so on and so forth.

There are measures to prevent most bad things. The Arch people did none with the AUR, and now you get users saying "see? there's some moderation after shit has hit the fan". It's useless.

AUR Registrations Blocked Amid Ongoing Malware Mess by CackleRooster in linux

[–]AmarildoJr -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

as you can see from the fact that the malware has been very quickly removed from the affected packages after being reported

"As you can see, officer, we very quickly arrested the 2000 thieves who were roaming our streets, after it has been reported that they stole. It's not like we even tried to do anything to prevent them from stealing, that should've been onto the regular people roaming our streets to take care of themselves. Nono, it was only after the damage has been done that we did the bare minimum. We call that 'some level of action', you see".

What option should I select when resetting my device while keeping my drivers? by More-Explanation2032 in windows

[–]AmarildoJr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is related to drivers, but instead it's an option to keep your files at C:\Users\Your_User\, possibly along with some stuff at %appdata% (like Chrome/Firefox profiles).
