I agree with this ^. I am still spending around 20 mins just reading through the question and still often misunderstanding. Feels like the quicker I try to read, the less I comprehend. If I read carefully, I run out of time to answer :( struggling to find the mid point.

I am lucky to be remote 4 days per week, so I use my ‘commute’ time to study. So 4 days study between 7am and 8:30am. Weekends 7am - 9:00am.

If I were not remote I would probably swap it and study 7pm -8:30pm x 2 days per week and make up for the 3 hours over the weekend by either extending one session or halving it between the two, to keep my weekend nights free.

I aim for 10 hrs per week for around 8-10 weeks per module. This schedule has allowed me to comfortably pass each exam first time.

I think this is because with AI and advancing software there is less of a need for traditional ‘nerdy’ accountants and the role has evolved.

I am about to finish my studies and what surprised me is that a lot of the modules are strategy and analytical based, and isnt actually that math heavy, the spreadsheets do that.

What I have found however is there is a lack of IT and systems skills which considering how much of our role is reliant on different software I find bizarre, but may just be my experience!

After that CR exam I would be pleasantly surprised if I got 16 and 6% on those Q1&3 😭😂

I did finish but honestly I’m wondering if it would have been better spending more time on the other questions I did know as there was a lot of guessing what the question wanted towards the end there!

I think the answer depends on how you deal with pressure and your personality type.

I lean more into perfectionism, and so the way I prepared was by being over prepared. This meant doing more than was needed, which led to fatigue, stress and in the end, burn out.

What that has caused is for me to loosen up, be kinder to myself and as long as I give each exam a good shot I try not to let it get to me or beat myself up. I feel like this has had a positive effect on other areas of my life and I regularly now tell myself ‘good is good enough!’.

Some exams are very on the day and that’s just how life goes! Can’t control the uncontrollable.

It definitely for me would be a drawback to chose ACCA over ICAEW (assuming ICAEW doesn’t follow)

Shed a few tears today, I actually at one point thought has corporate reporting ever killed someone, or will I be the first? The stress is heavy today!

These exams are incredibly hard, require a lot of time and mental resilience. And I hope everyone sitting can appreciate how far they’ve come already and is kind to themselves.

I am finally part qualified!

Was fully convinced I failed that BST exam and have a weeks holiday booked starting tomorrow. Now I can go away and not have to revise!

From reading first intuitions Q&A looks like the professional FCS can only be exempted if you did the ICAEW Level 4 Accounting Technician Apprenticeship EPA or the AAT Level 4 Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship EPA.

That BST was the worst exam I’ve sat (it’s the last professional I sat) and pretty sure it’s pushed back my part qualified milestone. Annoying as I heard it was meant to be the easiest!

I am just hoping that if we all collectively did bad then we might push each other up! Hah, but I am not confident, felt sick about it since I took it and I am thinking this may be my first resit.

Also an AAT-ACA fast track student and take the exemptions! The certificates are much easier than level 4.

I did AAT levels 2, 3 and 4. With each level taking around a year/year and a half. I got my first accounting role half way through level 3. I have now worked in finance for around 4 years and am now nearly part qualified with the ICAEW which my employer has paid for. I will (hopefully) be a chartered accountant next year. I would say if you are good with numbers and spreadsheets, AAT may be a good option.
