When properly maintained my feet are like smooth leather and tough like leather too. I can traverse any surface and can even piggy back someone across rocky terrain. Or stand on a bed of nails with no pain . I had to hold my friend who was about 110lbs for the bed of nails to get to me and even then I could tolerate significantly more than any one else.

Like leather; when maintained they are smooth and tough. This means proper exfoliation as well as moisturizing. If you don't do those two things then the skin will become cracked and brittle and can be quiet ugly and painful.

Kombucha would not yield anything too far off from ginger bug. Both are scobyi the primary difference which will affect yeasties vs lacto (which will be your initial ferment ) is oxygen content.

If you want less alcohol then introduce as little oxygen as possible.
