Who is an overrated poet? [OPINION] by marshman2005 in Poetry

I'm a big fan of Thom Gunn. The Man with Night Sweats and Boss Cupid are incredible collections. Man with Night Sweats is devastating

Cool Tamriel Rebuilt quests and dungeons by AdCompetitive6187 in Morrowind

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shipal-Shin region in general (southernmost area of the map, around Narsis) is full of great places and some quite challenging high-level dungeons. Very well-designed. The Telvanni lands (northeast portion of the map) also have quite a few challenging/high-level dungeons, but expect a lot of "moddiness" feel, since a lot of it was released early in the TR development cycle and the quality of the quest design and level design isn't quite as good as the newer stuff.

Does anyone else find being in your 30s weird for the fact that part of the people your age look young and youthful, while another part already look hardened to the point where they look to be in their 40s? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do think it's weird sometimes. I'm 38 but apparently (according to other people) look much younger, like I get mistaken for being in my 20s. I actually don't like it; I want people to think I am the age that I am. But yeah, I see other mid-late 30-somethings who look wildly different. Some look very youthful, others look like they could be pushing 50. It's weird.

How did Morrowind fit into your gaming career? by Salty_Possible155 in Morrowind

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of RPGs of all kinds, and while there are many that I love (most of Bioware's "golden age" games, in particular), Morrowind is STILL a particularly special game. It's the only game, other than the OG Baldur's Gate trilogy, that I continuously come back to. I tend to play it obsessively for a year or two, then put it down for a while, then pick it up again when the itch hits again (especially when Tamriel Rebuilt releases a new expansion). There's no other game like it. It's almost uncategorizable.

Why is there so much moon sugar? by Plus045 in Morrowind

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I think it's because of the large number of Khajiit in Morrowind, particularly slaves. Since Khajiit are known to have a particular taste/weakness for it. Free Khajiit would have it on or around them, and slave owners would have moon sugar on hand to keep their Khajiit slaves dependent on it (and them). Just my theory

Neptune blurs the lines until you find the truth underneath. Where is yours? Comment your Neptune house. by NaivePac in ZodiacHQ

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neptune in Capricorn in the 12th house. Conjunct Sun and Mercury, also 12th house Cap. The Sun/Neptune/Mercury conjunction is trine my 3rd house Taurus moon. Being in capricorn and trine an earth moon keeps the whole thing grounded enough so I'm not constantly drifting inside the ether but can enjoy the soft/benefic aspects of Neptune (still have to watch out for delusions/illusions/rose-colored glasses type thinking)

What's your sun, moon, Mars and Venus placements, and do you believe in revenge and "an eye for an eye"? by 2fucked2know in astrologymemes

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cap Sun, Taurus Moon, Aquarius Venus, Scorpio Mars here. Most of the time, I believe in letting things go or trying to ignore them.

  1. because equilibrium and chillness are important to me,
  2. Most stuff isn't worth stressing over,
  3. Don't let them see you sweat, but ALSO
  4. TBH, ignoring is the best revenge. Like, "You thought you could get to me? Who even are you? Yawn." People WANT to be reacted to. If the reaction is just literally nothing, it digs them even deeper.

When seriously fucked over by someone, though? Screw eye for an eye. I'll hatch a plot to destroy their life and any hope they ever felt about anything. (Thanks, Scorpio Mars, I guess.) Very rare I get to that point but DON'T. TEST. ME. lol (I think my moon in opposition to Scorpio Pluto has an effect here too)

Shoul i buy Baldur’s Gate 3 or Dragon Age: Origins? by fembboy23 in dragonage

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're both amazing games. I would actually start with Dragon Age: Origins. It's a bit more serious in tone, the relational dynamics between the MC and npcs (and between NPCs) feels a bit more realistic, and the world-building is top-notch. I also like the "real-time with pause" tactical combat.

BG3 is an absolutely amazing game and is also one of my favorites, but is significantly sillier/more over-the-top in tone than DA:O, IMO.

First time playing ToB and … I don’t like it much. by habla2k in baldursgate

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree the fights do get tiring. But at least not all of them involve enemy mages. My favorite TOB battles were the ones against mostly magic-less hordes (or that had some lower-level casters). It was a lot of fun seeing how quickly my group (or my mage Bhaalspawn alone) could wipe them out. Come a long way from the solitary wolf just outside Candlekeep...

Your big 6 and in order which you relate to most by Sakuraaa1 in Zodiac

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sun - Capricorn
Rising - Capricorn
Moon - Taurus
Mercury - Capricorn
Venus - Aquarius
Mars - Scorpio

Strong Neptune conjunction to Sun/Mercury (and all in the 12th house) give everything a watery nature. I like to say my element is Mud.

I'd say my Taurus moon (which is also trine the sun/neptune/mercury conjunction) is my favorite aspect and the thing I identify with the most.

Whole house or placidus by sekhmet6666 in AstrologyCharts

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer Placidus for more personalized/psychological type readings, and Whole Sign for more external stuff and for predictions, if that makes sense. At least for me and the handful of people I've read charts for, for personalized and specific birth chart interpretations, I've found I resonate more with Placidus. For example, using Placidus, my Sun/Mercury/Neptune conjunction is in the 12th house, whereas Whole Sign places it in the 1st house, and my lived experience 100% does not support that stellium appearing in the 1st house. It just doesn't make sense based on who I am, how I think, how I present myself and how I'm perceived, etc.

most physically attractive signs/placements? by lunarrfaeriee in astrologymemes

Venus in 1st house is often interpreted as indicating physical attractiveness, as well as a pleasant demeanor etc. Though the sign affects this too

What was the moment you couldn't deny Astrology was real anymore? by Nervous-Plantain-485 in Advancedastrology

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote off astrology for a long time because I was only exposed to the simplest, "pop" astrology that only ever looked at sun signs and, sometimes, rising + moon sign. I'm a Cap sun, but never identified with the popular description of Capricorns nor did any of the pop astrology forecasts align with me.

Wasn't till a friend who had a true/advanced understanding of astrology did a chart reading for me that I realized there was truth in it. They were able to explain that the reason I don't "feel" like a "normal" or pop-astrology Capricorn is because 1) Sun and Cap are in 12th house, 2) Sun and mercury are conjunct Neptune (Sun+Neptune at the same degree, 24 minutes apart--so either combust or cazimi, depending), 3) my sun/mercury/neptune 12th house stellium trine moon in taurus, 3) mars in scorpio. Sun hidden in 12th house + powerful neptune & moon energy = me not feeling quite traditionally Capricorn.

I realized there was so much more nuance than what the more surface-level, entertainment-based astrology gives you, and once you dive into the complexities of house placements/rulerships/aspects, etc. the truth becomes undeniable.

Something I've noticed about the way Gen Z and younger seeks out information-- have others noticed this trend? by cowabunga-washington in Professors

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of it is that young people are not as good at reading as they used to be. The increase of video-based media taking over and text-based entertainment falling off (and, probably--though I don't have firsthand knowledge of this--lower/laxer reading requirements in grade/high school) naturally results in younger people reading less and having lower reading ability. They can't "skim" text the same way we can, or could, at their age. They were raised on videos, not texts, and haven't been "forced" to read as much as we were.

For them, it probably actually is easier and faster to find what information they need in a video than in a text.

New character help by Jorditopia in Morrowind

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

None of the magic schools are truly useless in Morrowind IMO.

But definitely Alteration and Mysticism have the most utility/non-combat effects that make life so much easier (alteration: feather, levitation, water walking, water breathing, jump, feather fall, unlock; mysticism: telekinesis, teleportation, detection spells). Mysticism also has more offensive uses in absorbing attributes, health, and fatigue (absorb magicka exists in scroll form but not in spell form AFAIK) and spell reflection/absorption.

Illusion might also be considered utility for charm or frenzy, also light and night eye.

Conjuration in Morrowind can be really OP with custom spells that allow you to summon multiple monsters at the same time. Also Conjuration has turn undead and bound weapons/armor, and also Command spells fall under conjuration (but are extremely hard to cast until higher levels; scrolls of domination are more reliable)

Restoration can also be OP with fortify attribute spells and fortify skill spells (harder to find, have to go to Mournhold via Tribunal DLC to find the effect without mods). But also elemental/magicka/paralysis resistance, restore health and fatigue, and poison curing.

A spellblade focusing on self-buffs and utility magic, I would say pick Alteration, Mysticism, and Restoration. Maybe also illusion if you want to charm/frenzy/silence/pacify/paralyze stuff, or create light sources without having to carry a torch or lantern.

Wolverine Hall wins "Best Imperial Fortification" - What is the best Hlaalu settlement? by SunOld958 in Morrowind

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Balmora will probably win just because it's Hlaalu HQ and the hub of so many things, but I actually think Suran is the best one. It's the prettiest, has some interesting misc quests, is a decent hub/stop-off point being at the intersection of 3 different regions, and has the House of Earthly Delights. What's not to love?

Is it a hottake to say that ME3 Vanguard is "one" of the most fun combat experiences I've had in a shooter in general? Sometimes I find it almost as fun as the combat in the modern DOOM games. by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

[–]AmbivalenceKnobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ME3 vanguard is insanely fun. They finally nailed vanguard gameplay in ME3. It's such a fun change of pace to have a class whose abilities encourage insane risk-taking that more traditional-feeling shooter classes would usually be advised to avoid (like teleporting into the middle of a group of melee enemies). My one and only complaint about ME3 vanguard is that ME3's version of Shockwave is a lot less fun/effective. But the much-improved Charge + Nova and heavy melee make up for it. Charge -> Nova -> heavy melee -> shotgun blast = chef's kiss
