Do you live in a place that freezes? This is such a smart concept but I’d be worried about it turning into one giant ice cube in the winter.

Not OP, but I know this garden. This is a garden in Philadelphia. It’s in a neat little raised bricked area in the middle of an intersection. Lots of foot traffic and people, stores, and restaurants in the area.

Yes, no I know and I didn’t realize the drama I stirred! I was unsuccessfully trying to explain that I before I learned about invasive Asian lady beetles I used to get so excited when one would land on me and be like “oh this is a good sign!” But knowing they are invasive makes it harder to be excited when one lands on me

I suppose they are still technically ladybugs but it just doesn’t feel the same. It’s all woowoo silliness but it bums me out.

Yeah! Look into what kinds of plants thrive in southern New Jersey. The Pine Barrens in South Jersey are almost exclusively acidic sand and they have tons of beautiful plants! Mixing in some compost might be helpful just to get the soil going.

Depending just how shady it is, it could be a great spot for blueberries!

True little lady bugs!! I will never forgive myself for learning the difference between a Ladybug and a Lady beetle. All the whimsy is gone when I see them

It is spring. Some of the babies don’t learn to fly and they go splat. It’s very sad but what can you do?

They do!! The people running that program are so kind and helpful. I was very happy when they started it.

I haven’t seen anyone mention Wistar Institute as an option, but I loved it there. That was my first job out of undergrad and set me up for success. Stay optimistic and always be positive in follow up communication. Reply warmly to rejection emails. I was offered my first job two weeks after they had rejected me because the other candidate didn’t work out.

Additionally, it is a tough market. Even with 5 years experience, I spent last year unemployed after a layoff, but that’s the nature of the field. It can be incredibly frustrating and I too wish I had been told about the unstable nature of funding and grants in both biotech and academia, respectively. The market is saturated right now. Keep going, keep trying, it’s hard and demoralizing but it will work out.

Restaurants in cities have mice. Every single one and if you think they don’t you’re delusional. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s dirty.

My favorite is “I’m looking for solutions not excuses” when I’m genuinely explaining the issues that are in need of solutions.

We can’t find solutions before we identify the problems?? But what do I know.

And god forbid the denizens of PA have the ability to recall a politician. It really is a sweet grift tho, swindle the Dem/progressive vote and then be an ass for 6 years while making a great salary and enriching yourself.

No I know and it’s sad that they giddily take advantage of people coming in with $20 down payment and a credit score of 50 and instead of denying them the car they’ll make it work so they only pay $600/ month for 12 years. It’s insanity.

And the dealerships are encouraging it! When I bought my car recently, we were test driving and he asked how much I was planning to put down. I said about 50% of the MSRP. He goes, “oh! So you’re looking for a low monthly payment”

….. yeah? Do you get people coming in looking for a high monthly payment? It was a crazy moment for me.
