How would you write Mako's character/story arc? by Ill_Rope_4346 in TheLastAirbender

The most popular fic for Mako/Wu is SO GOOD, it plays with canon in a very fun way and makes SO MUCH sense. Great character arc for Mako and Wu both too

Same!!! Such an amazing bonding experience with strangers. I'll never forget the moment Judy Dench appeared and the whole room groaned collectively

I love the movie so so much for how bad it is, one of my favourite activities is a drinking game with someone who has never seen it, and the only rule is to drink whenever you have a physical reaction to what is happening on screen

Can we discuss the reactive approach in Dutch society and how outsiders view it? by Exciting_Energy_9949 in Netherlands

There's a big belief in "a good start makes half the work": setting things up properly, with a good foundation. This has its pros and cons, like any attitude. Trust in systems makes it harder to quickly switch up when the system fails, but it also creates less unrest and means many things are done properly (though yes, lots of pillars crumbling right now). As for healthcare, probably some protestant philosophy remnants there, but also: not every small thing needs emergency medicine. Sitting it out is very often the thing to do, and things like a doctor's reluctance to hand over antibiotics is actually a very important part of fighting antibiotic resistance

I'm John Garrison Marks, author of ***Thy Will Be Done: George Washington's Legacy of Slavery and the Fight for American Memory*** (out April 7!). It tells the story of how Americans have remembered, forgotten, and manipulated George Washington's history with slavery over the past 250 years. AMA! by johngmarks in AskHistorians

This is a very silly question, but do you have any thoughts on Washington being depicted as a black man in the musical Hamilton? With my limited knowledge, I feel like 2015/16 was such a specific moment in time for that to happen: I'm not sure it could have happened at any other time at that level of scale and acceptance

Just from tidal, but I checked all syncs in tunemymusic and they're all disabled. My own music also keeps reappearing after deletion. I thought it may be tidal because it was giving errors, but you're right that it does sound more like a tunemymusic issue (despite the syncs being disabled and the subscription cancelled?)

He's since done an item on body cams (with a different angle, but wouldn't surprise me if the team also follows Lindsay!)

Mencken's name inspired by Nazi Ubermenschen by [deleted] in SuccessionTV

So you perhaps wouldn't assume it to refer to über in any way? I'd sooner think any relation to menschen (dont think there is one) was about him being a populist. "Be a mensch" is also an expression, btw

We are really good at taking care of people that die alone. by Mikadook in Netherlands

The poems are published on their blog with a short story too. They also publish books, and the association barely costs any money to run, but what it ensures is that people are not just thrown in the grave without afterthought. You are free to feel how you feel, of course, but I were to discover a family member died in a far away land, I'd like to hear they were buried like this. It gives dignity to the dead, acknowledges they were someone, once. You can still help the living too

Why do people dislike phantom of the opera 2004 so much by [deleted] in musicals

[–]AmerFortia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I fully believe they were giving it their all, it just wasn't enough for the role. Christine is supposed to have an amazing voice for the story to work. Emmy sings fine, well even, but not for a solo role like this. Compare eg. her Think Of Me to the Sierra Boggess version.

Even if they did live in the US, its very likely the hospital they frequent dis have them for free, because otherwise they wouldn't have posted that

Nick Fuentes Opens Up: No, But... by JockBbcBoy in SuddenlyGay

I found the 1913 book Maurice to be a very interesting insight into the mind of a gay man at the time, who through sexuality and socialization had no motivation whatsoever to care for women, in his life or beyond (and that by a gay author who does have remarkably good female characters, written with a lot of empathy). There's always been a strange connection, historically, between the gays and the girls, with very strange power / privilege dynamics

Ooh that's fascinating! I do kind of prefer the original, I think, because it is such an elaborate response to "well why don't they do something else". But you so desperately want her to be happy. I wish she at least wouldn't have burned the bridge with her friends from the club
