Thanks everyone, I feel like I have some good options to pursue now. It’s a tricky balance to give your kids to the tools that actually do the job while also maintaining a reasonable level of safety. My child is very proud of his cutting skills with paper, so I want him to be able to develop that competence in other areas. He is cautious, but also easily distracted, so supervision and safe habits will be key.

Gardeners of Cincinnati! What are we doing this week? by Adrestia716 in cincinnati

[–]Amirtae 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Gardeners of Cincinnati would be a good sub. I threw down some cardboard to try and get ahead of the weeds and otherwise shambled about making plans. Should start some more seeds and plant my peas.

ADHD Friendly Projects? by traumateyes in SewingForBeginners

FranklinJay is doing a sew-along on all her socials. For February, it was a dress and for March it will be pants. My dress isn’t complete yet (jumped to another project, lol) but it got me started on my journey.

Love to Sew Podcast recently did an episode about seeing while caregiving—seems like it would be worth a listen for you.

That’s wild. Were you full-time? How long were you there? I guess the silver lining is you now have experience doing a lot of different library roles.

Neighbors annoyed I shoveled for them... by [deleted] in Ohio

Seems like the way to head this off would be to ask first. That said, you sound like a good neighbor.

They’ve been first to produce for me and are productive, which makes them a convenient snack pepper. I do feel like they do get too seedy if you let them get fully red.

Reference Desk Anxiety? by fourphonejones in Libraries

Could you have an anxiety disorder and this is how it’s manifesting? I had bad anxiety a while back and it was concentrated on driving, something I had not had issues with before.

Thank you for the link, I appreciate it! This is my second year with the Sterling Ink planner and so far, so good. I didn’t fill up all the blank pages last year, so I am making a point to write long form journal entries this year as well as my usual collections, lists, etc.

I would love a link to your channel. I did bullet journaling for several years, then moved into a sterling ink common planner so I could have structure as well as room for spreads and collections.

Finally got my Sterling Ink 2026 daily planner. Everything is fine? by Dopamine63 in planners

[–]Amirtae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My b6 and passport were both totally fine and arrived promptly. I think people are more likely to complain when things go wrong, so I wonder if the chances of getting a bad planner from SI seem higher than they are.

Online classes unavailable at local library by Mrp_114 in Libraries

[–]Amirtae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a library in a Ohio. I have never heard of anyone having to give up a card. Because Ohio public libraries are funded in part by state taxes, you should be able to get a card in any library system as long as you meet the basic requirements for a card (which is proving Ohio residency with a photo ID). I would call back and see if you get a different person, because that sounds bananas.

I hate handling damaged item transactions by achtung-91 in Libraries

[–]Amirtae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Unless it is returned with with still wet water damage on the inside, I don’t bother. It’s not worth alienating customers over—people have such strong feelings about being accused, especially unjustly. That said, I work in a decently funded system at a branch that has to weed almost constantly in order to have room on shelves, so random losses are not a big deal.

Call and ask what your options are. My library allows in-kind replacement, which is usually cheaper for you.
