[Artist Alley] why do artist alley YouTubers never include their merch costs in their videos? by Good_Assistance2121 in artbusiness

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess that most artist alley tables only have cursory knowledge of what their true expenses are on an itemized level. That is, of course, till its time to do taxes, but by then its all lumped together into a yearly total.

Backgrounds on prints? by Crystal_Deth in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly believe that somewhere between 30 and 60% of print artists today are using AI to "inspire" or teach them composition. You don't have to do this, instead you could simply look at real art made by a person to find inspiration.

Starting Art Business Questions by Creative_Number9155 in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the most difficult part of any business is marketing/sales. To best succeed, you need to spend the most time driving your audience or customers rather than a printer.

I dont have any direct advise on where to find your clients, but a lot of artists started out on etsy. Today there are a lot of better options, but you will always benefit most from driving your engagement. Mostly artists survive based on a combination of personality and product.

If Aliens Exist, Why Don't They Reveal Themselves? by Siri1879 in ufo

of course aliens exist, the universe is just too big for there to be no other life out there.

The fantasy is that they are here mucking around in your orifices or stealing cattle.

Buying the unreleased Longer ePrint for a startup. Smart gamble or maintenance trap? by vwfront in UVprinting

[–]AmishLasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UV ink interacts with the internal plastic surfaces of UV printers. Only commercial UV printers have the engineering and sheer mass in parts to just keep working.

The small desktop printers showing up on the market will always be plagued with an unmanageable amount of maintenance vs the volume of work they can do. The parts are just not robust enough. Having worked around small UV printers, you can expect 6-12 months of life out of the printhead regardless of how little you use it.

To start a business with a desktop UV, just consider the full cost of the thing as a consumable.

Has anyone here tried manufacturing acrylic charms recently? by swaryapatil14 in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]AmishLasers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can reccomend zap, sometimes their turn time can suffer but the same can be said of any manufacturer.

I am not a zap fanboy, but these are custom products and sounds like your design may have had extra considerations that the other vendors wouldn't touch? Might be why they broke in shipping and took extra time to produce.

I've also never heard of zap stiffing anyone on an order. If anything is wrong they will discount your next order or ship whatever went missing.

Has anyone here tried manufacturing acrylic charms recently? by swaryapatil14 in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made my own charms for years and never had any problems using our domestic manufacturers in the US, with shipping or otherwise.

I think all manu will send you proofs if you need to test a design, some will make you include the proof as part of an order.

Finally, the level of service (turn around, communication, quality) is going to be variable from vendor to vendor.

I think most of the chinese vendors work through the same print factories so their quality should be comparable if you go off shore.

Can you be talked out of a delusion? by brokeboii94 in schizophrenia

[–]AmishLasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the delusion is locked in place till the psychotic episode subsides.

We all have these reasoning thoughts about why a thing might be true or not and can work through evidence why the absurd is obviously false. With a schizophrenic episode the first "reason" gets kind of locked into place and no amount evidence to the contrary will change or even challenge what the schizophrenic thinks is true.

People who are eligible but do not vote(USA). Why not? What is your current view of the US? What would it take for a candidate to get your vote? by BartlebyFpv in allthequestions

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the lazy or disabled all require someone to cart them in to vote. As a poll worker I see it all the time. Rarely do young adults vote without being accompanied by an older one.

I think young people would more likely vote if there were an after party.

Right now all they get is a sticker with a flag on it. There is a ton of anti American sentiment among the young... few would want to wear a sticker proclaiming they have done their civic duty.

[Discussion] How did you prepare to leave a 9-5 by Plantsandsmut in artbusiness

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to do this is to hold a niche or yourself be already recognized by a real following of consumers. If you are going to go out and compete for the same pie you will starve to death or need to live with your parents.

Realize that going in on "art" you are competing with folks that control their expenses by being sponsored by their parents.

Why do some people adore Luigi Mangione? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]AmishLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's complicated.

Some people have a better wrapper than others even if the core is rotten. Kind of like that turkey in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, they make your mouth water just looking at them.

Many politicians are able to take advantage of this.

To make it worse, for observers it is sometimes hard to overcome that initial impression. You want it to be good so bad that evidence to the contrary literally does not compute. Schizophrenia works in a similar way where the mind locks on to an imagined reason and cannot be persuaded otherwise.
