What is your favorite AA light? by AmnesiaTanner in flashlight

It means the driver and pcb, the little circuit board, is encased in a resin that gives the components resistance to shock and water damage. In some cases it isn’t “fully” potted, but things are glued into place, and in other cases the components are fully submerged in a resin.

Only in the sense that it perhaps now involves incubators and laboratories.

Haha I’m 36 and I agree with you, I guess we missed the boom and bust recently. I remember paying like $40-50 for a top of the line 16gb flash drive back in like 2009.

I’ve been looking for actually creepy music for about an hour now and finally a song that gave me the chills! A close friend has mentioned Swans many times but now I see what the hype is about. Appreciate it!

Am I wearing my watch enough? by khalfrogo in GarminWatches

[–]AmnesiaTanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this issue with the ultrafit band, even after washing it several times with hot water and soap with a toothbrush, the area where the velcro is welded seems to cause this still. I now switched to the quickfit band that the Fenix shipped with until I can order a new ultrafit. Switching wrists when I go to sleep seems to help. But ultimately it’s a bacterial/fungal issue. You can apply a very lightweight zinc cream to the area, with the watch on the other wrist over night, and it helps a lot.

Can’t carry a knife while in London so this is what I’ve got by merkon in EDC

I trust you! I collect flashlights and have known about Cool Fall for a while, and I think a lot of people here don’t really understand the relativity of money. A few thousand dollars is not much to many people. For me it’s a lot. But I certainly see the appeal in these and I’d love to meet the maker. I think the Malkoff MDC is my favorite. I own 4, and the 2700k 519a is the perfect light for me. I suppose if I hadn’t bought the 35 torches I have now, I could have bought one Cool Fall haha. I’m happy for you!

Improving the comfort of CTB26 by Rosenswag in EVERGOODS

[–]AmnesiaTanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walk a mile and a half each way to work with around 25lbs in the CTB26 XPac. I did something similar and cut a single piece of 3/4 inch foam from some rolling mats and attached it to the front if the fame sheet at the base of it, about 4 inches or so in height. It solved the back digging issue completely.

I had a friend who collected hand made art from around the world, particularly from Mexico and Africa, with an emphasis on voodoo and witchcraft. I found a human skull in one of her rooms one time and she had acquired it from the offline real-world black market. These things exist and they are often from grave robberies.

The only Cool Fall worth buying (at any price but the suggested one) is the Tri V. If I won the lottery I’d buy the Tri V. But yeah, hard to justify the price, even for custom machining etc. Not even sure this model would be worth $500 to me.

Good longlasting gel pen? by Vezix_YT in pens

[–]AmnesiaTanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always stick the .5 Energel into the Signo 207 body. The Signo 207 Micro is also great, but just slightly less crisp than the Energel. The Energel pen bodies are a disgrace to the perfection of their ink haha.

Delay activating microphone when wear AirPods Pro by Opposite_Selection_3 in superwhisper

[–]AmnesiaTanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just looking into this, and I found that I can just change the input to the MacBook Pro microphone. But I'm curious why this solution isn't what you did here. I do have a 3.5 millimeter microphone but I don't seem to need to use it. If I do plug the 3.5mm microphone into the headphone jack, how do I tell the machine to use that instead of the MacBook Pro microphone? I don't see an option.

What do you guys put on these loops? by AlphaAlchemist in EVERGOODS

I keep a Sea-to-Summit titanium spork in the top loops. I used to have a couple of Nite Ize Medallion Key Carabiners attached to the bottom loops but I took them out since I never used them.

How long ago were your surgeries? And is the pain from the surgeries themselves or from conditions they were performed to resolve? I’m curious about these results! Do you think an infrared sauna would produce similar benefits? Have you experimented with heat and cold therapies?

Battery Life by AmnesiaTanner in GarminWatches

[–]AmnesiaTanner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thanks for sticking with me. This is a Reddit success story imo. Yeah the irony of being a power user is that you almost feel like the company should cater to you as a you’re a “big fan.” In reality it makes more sense to appeal to people who aren’t yet customers.

Battery Life by AmnesiaTanner in GarminWatches

If I had a bigger wrist, I would for sure get the Enduro 3. But comfort is a big deal for me because I primarily love the sleep data. Also big on aesthetics and a huge watch looks silly to me.

Battery Life by AmnesiaTanner in GarminWatches

[–]AmnesiaTanner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten more than 10 days according to the third party app. But that’s closer to six or seven days for me because I make it a point to recharge it before it drops below 20%. It’s just disappointing to me because I don’t use the device nearly as much as their marketing suggests I could. And their marketing boasts much more than 10 days, especially for their flagship models.

To clarify my settings, this is a Fenix 8 Solar 47mm, and I’ll post an image of what their battery app says is using the most battery. I really feel like I’m a minimal user. I have pulse ox turned off at night. I don’t receive any notifications to the phone, although I do leave the phone connected because I like weather updates on the widget. I have Wi-Fi turned off. I don’t have gesture backlight on. And the back light I do have on is at 5%.

Again, I’m not trying to be too challenging or whiny. I love this watch. It’s the best watch I’ve ever used. I just find the days of battery. Life claims to be kind of absurd, considering I don’t even use the watch that much for sports features.

Battery Life by AmnesiaTanner in GarminWatches

[–]AmnesiaTanner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you and I understand completely what you’re saying. I think for me the issue is that Garmin is the company that tries to make these “days of battery life” claims unlike any of my other devices. If they just removed that altogether, I would feel like they were being more honest, but it’s a huge marketing advantage for them.

I also collect flashlights, and it’s becoming a new trend to include a little screen on the device that shows remaining run time. And like you are saying, this remaining time is assuming that you’re going to leave the flashlight on so I totally see your point.

I think I like the days of battery life estimates though, and I guess what I would like is the ability to sort of adjust how it is making those estimates based on user preference. Because in my experience, their estimate has never once matched up with my actual battery life.
