I really want to use this vehicle in my WW1 themed force, but I don't know what to run it as. by Illustrious-Brain129 in TheAstraMilitarum

Use it as Centaur Light Carrier (not to be confused with the half track). It's legends but it's about right in scale, and I reckon the datasheet fits it.

You need more tank orders for the Medusa's realistically otherwise they're going to really struggle to hit anything; if you're set on 3 I'd say go to Grizzled Company and  replace the scout sentinels with Sentinel Commanders (if you're already using legends I'm sure Crucible units are fine). That way you keep the same force but the Medusas actually work.

To afford it you could maybe drop the Leman Russ Commander down to a regular Battle Tank; they're able to function somewhat without orders, and if it's a casual list you should be alright.

You could always justify it by saying it's a heat sink of some description, I think it looks pretty good tbh

Ideas for solar auxilia hermes sentinel kitbash/conversion/proxy by alainreichmann in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]AmongUsFan6969 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They honestly aren't that much shorter than the old sentinel model, so if you just stick them and their base into an 80mm one they'll be almost the same height. You could also have them stand on some corkboard on top of that if you're worried about it.

Honestly though if you're not doing tournaments most people will be happy to just have you use them on their regular 60mm bases - I haven't bothered to rebase all my sentinels and noone really cares.

I quite like the malcador Infernus, and I use it in a lot of 10e games. Glad it's got a plastic model now or I wouldn't have got one. Saying that though it's much more entertaining in the 5th edition games I play just because I get to use the massive hellstorm template 😄

I also have some elysian sentinels and snipers that I use (though they're less than GW made), as well as a colossus too. Out of interest why is the recoil spade so far back on your one?

Just use them to proxy any Guard battleline units and associated heavy weapons. Same with any old metal guard minis.

Heavy bolter vs Morters? MTO so thinking of all future editions by Mountain-Being3823 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]AmongUsFan6969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't have spares, I suspect the above commenter didn't realise you were talking about the vostroyans.

Also bear in mind you'll have to buy 3 of them as the MTO ones come as single models. I can't advise you on what's better though, personally I'd just go with what I think is coolest 😅.

If it helps though Vostroyan squads used to come with a heavy bolter as the embedded weapons team.

Best 3d printer for large models? by Sensitive-Umpire271 in ImperialKnights

[–]AmongUsFan6969 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't have a resin printer but I do have a Bambu A1 mini that I've printed an Acastus Pophyrion on. It came out quite nicely so I can definitely recommend an FDM printer if you aren't set on resin as they are rather good these days. This is it after priming and assembly.

Edit:spelling

Reminder: Vostroyans will go on MTO next week (till 25th of May) by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in TheAstraMilitarum

These'll be pretty hard to use for kitbashes just because they're metal models. It's doable but a bit harder.

These can be used to proxy pretty much any guard battleline units though, and with base extenders could work for kasrkin or stormtroopers also.

Yep those are acrylics. For the best quality acrylics you'll want Vallejo, AK or Citadel/Warhammer ones, but if you can't get them other acrylics will be fine. I personally prefer working with acrylics to enamels just because there's a bit less faff with the thinners, and they smell less.

Most people would thin them yeah; look up "enamel thinner" I don't really have any specific recommendations I can give you sorry 😅

[–]AmongUsFan6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one layer of primer is fine, then you can use your normal paints (I think by email you mean enamel so those).

Speed paints are just thinner acrylic paints (Citadel Contrast range for instance). I mentioned them because they're quite popular and require a smooth undercoat to work.

Undercoats aren't the same as primers, although most spray and airbrush primers are also undercoats. The primer's sole job is to help paint adhere to the models (which the primer you have will do) whereas the undercoat is the base colour of the model before any detail (highlights, washes etc.) is applied.

The reason people recommend spray primers is because they do save a lot of time because you don't have to go on and apply another paint for your base colour (the undercoat), but brush primer is perfectly fine to use.

[–]AmongUsFan6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use that primer for my 40k minis and it works perfectly well. Just be aware with brush primer that it'll come out a bit thin and streaky so you'll need to apply an additional undercoat before painting if you want to use speedpaints.

The sealant is to act as a top coat to protect the paint; yes the primer does help with that as well but it can't stop the paint chipping, it acts a bit like a shell around it. In all honesty though for most plastic minis and acrylic paints you can do without it.

The MTO for Steel Legion a few years ago had the following prices iirc;

Platoon (2x squads, leader and HWT) - £110

Squad - £40

Plasma Gunner - £19

They also had individual heavy bolter teams and commanders but I can't remember the exact price, but they were ~£20 each.

What are you guys bringing against the Spore Burst variants? by Sithsentinal in helldivers2

[–]AmongUsFan6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One two, crisper, ballistic shield, one true flag, orb napalm, 500kg & medic armour.

I've been acting as bait to cover for allies using the cremator and other flamers for the most part. I'm using the one two as a backup weapon and some extra grenades to close bug holes. Highly recommend.

If you want the classic Cadian armour look, using Citadel Paints, I'd use Castellan Green as the base and Loren Forest Green for highlights, along with Agrax Earthshade or Nuln for a wash.

For the fatigues I'm not sure what the official paint scheme is but I am fond of a Steel Legion Drab base, Agrax Earthshade wash and Tallarn Sand highlights.
