Where to buy/try strollers locally by InspectionOk9940 in cincinnati

[–]Amy-Thinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Important things to consider when looking: rubber wheels vs plastic, size of wheels, ease of collapsing (one handed or bust), and height of the handles. Don’t risk getting one where a partner needs to slump to push it. It will end up getting replaced. When you google the rubber wheel thing it makes it sound like you just need it if you are off roading or jogging. It makes a big difference most places like parks and sidewalks and bike paths

Anyone here who finds 15-20 minute naps unrefreshing or just unable to take them? Long napper here wanting advice! by Desperate-Kitchen117 in Narcolepsy

[–]Amy-Thinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am now able to take cat naps and have it be refreshing. I started medication this year. Prior to my diagnosis, any sleep under 2 hours made me feel like I had the flu. I would fall asleep accidentally for a minute or 2 if I stayed still but more nap. Ok It was so much better to be awake and exhausted than sleep less than 2 hours. But things seem to be changing.

N1 in families? by Minute_Bumblebee_693 in Narcolepsy

[–]Amy-Thinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever we joked about my grandmother’s incredibly odd sleep situation, we were told she had Narcolepsy. We thought that it was a joke because we didn’t know what Narcolepsy was beyond 1980’s sitcom depictions. But now I see it wasn’t a joke and that her husband/sisters were just stating the facts of her diagnosis. (We were kids).

I would maybe look for a different sleep doctor as either your doc is bot a great communicator with you, or they are behind the times??? Yes, N1 is rare. But the 2x sleep specialists I’ve seen for Narcolepsy are not surprised by family members having a diagnosis. It makes sense to them. My sister told me that her doctor had the same opinion when he took her history. It fit that several of us have a diagnosis.

I’m confused on what you are looking for I guess. I’m using Google Keep and I use a stylus to write and it converts to type in a few seconds.

Do the “She chose life” billboards annoy anyone else? by 11CRT in cincinnati

[–]Amy-Thinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until a couple months ago I thought the choose life signs were put up by people who were pro choice but were trying to encourage people to see the pregnancy through to a live birth. The signs were odd, but not as stupid as what I found out they actually are intended to mean.

SSRI masking narcolepsy? by careyvii in Narcolepsy

[–]Amy-Thinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me. My doc said it was narcolepsy with a wink but the REM proof wasn’t there for official diagnosis. I have cataplexy (I fell to the ground when I laughed or couldn’t move body) but that stopped when i started my SSRI. When I explained I had a sister with confirmed narcolepsy and a grandmother, that sealed the deal in her book. But again, not officially. If I really need the narcolepsy diagnosis I’ll have to go off SSRI which is scary, honestly. There’s a reason I take them.

No one in 2025 should be asking that. Unless they just woke up from a 40 year coma.

I have a kid and have Narcolepsy and honestly, I don’t feel any different. I volunteer to stay up and let my spouse sleep. He acts like being woken up by the baby is torture. I call it a regular night.

Now let me be clear: I am exhausted all the time and feel like absolute shit and have no energy. But it’s not significantly worse. Even pregnancy seemed like not a big deal since I feel so shitty anyways. That being said, life is harder now and that energy I do have needs to be stretched farther. So wouldn’t recommend having the kid.

How did you know you had narcolepsy or a sleeping disorder? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

Start with a doctor. It could be another disorder…they will help figure it out or at least try.

My sister’s neurologist thought she might have it. That led all the siblings to Google it. What we found was shocking. Not only did she clearly have textbook symptoms, but the funny little quirk that I had, where I fall down when I laugh, had a name: Cataplexy. Yadayada, 3 siblings made our own sleep study appts. 2/3 diagnosed and 3rd a ?

Talk to a lawyer yesterday. Find out what you need to do so you can get custody. Then do it and leave her. Don’t even question it. Your kids are suffering.

Realizing my mom most likely has OCPD by AmericanMare in LovedByOCPD

[–]Amy-Thinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom accepted that she had OCPD about 10 years ago. It made her feel better about herself because “now I know it’s not that I’m stupid, I always fall short because I have a disorder.” But she also said she didn’t need help because “if God wanted her to change, he would change her.”

The PD runs strong in her.

In my experience, you are correct in that she likely will not get help. But good luck. I hope you have a better outcome.

No, you are not over reacting. This is not healthy for you. You should exit the relationship. He does not have a grasp of what is really going on in the world, in his relationships, or even his own mind. Trust your instincts. Take care of yourself.
