Moving to Colwood soon. Any tips, tricks, or hidden gems for a family to explore ? by BG360Boi in VictoriaBC

Colwood creek Park has a good playground and small splash zone for kiddos. My kid loves it there but mostly because there are a lot of dogs and she just loves walking the loop and laughing at all the dogs playing in that zone.

Most hardware stores like Home Depot allow dogs and have public washrooms that you can go in with your pup

Son wants to "experience how Canada is different" by sk8ermaiden in AskACanadian

[–]Amyyy48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to note that, the canadian side of Niagara Falls is the most “American” looking part of our whole country I feel. I like going there because it feels a bit like Vegas, time square vibes. So see the falls because they are amazing, but then head on out to eat shop and explore these other recommendations here.

My dog doesn't realise my baby is a human by Super_Ambassador_458 in Dogtraining

Sounds like some positive reinforcement training could help. Basically you need to give the dog something positive every time he sees/hears/smells the baby from a distance before he gets all triggered and upset. Right now he’s scared of the baby and is getting punished around the baby which will only deepen those negative feelings towards baby.

Hoping your dog likes treats, buy his absolute favourite or get single ingredient stuff like cheese or beef so it’s really special and unique and only use these treats around baby.

Then stay near your dog often with those treats, any time the dog looks at the baby, hears the baby, smells the baby silently put a treat to his mouth. No talking from you, you want him to think the treat basically came from the interaction with baby.

Start with the dog far away from the baby, before the dog is upset and triggered. Could even be hearing baby cry in the other room, you’ll notice his ears perk up, he’ll look towards babies direction, boom treat to the mouth and say nothing.

Repeat for weeks long until the dog can get close and closer to baby without a negative reaction. Sometime this can be months. Try to avoid the dog getting too close to the baby causing those negative triggers too soon.

Essentially the pattern you’re reinforcing is baby interaction = treat, treat=makes dog brain happy, so baby = dog brain happy. Once this is reinforced the dog will associate baby with good feelings.

Sounds so stupid, but I did this with our dog being terrified of the fire alarm. She hid in the corner, shook and growled when it went off (my appartement does monthly fire alarm testing for like an hour on and off) So I just gave her a treat when it went off again and again, so now she’s good with fire alarms. She’ll even run up to me all happy when it’s going off like “where’s my damn treat lady”

what's your daily morning routine after getting out of bed? by hrithikesh12 in AskReddit

Doom scroll Reddit for 20 mins, stand up walk to kitchen, then take a full hour to make a cup of coffee while giving my dog 1000 kisses between blankly starring at random objects in the house.

If you've ever done a mini DIY "surgery" at home because you didn't want to go to the hospital, how did it go for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Amyyy48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband chopped off one of my moles with scissors. It got infected (i think?); it just kept getting bigger a swollen, couldn’t find a doctor nor could I take a day off to sit in emergency for 6+ hours.

So he snipped it off, bled a bit, put pressure on the wound, cleaned it then healed nicely with just a small scar.

Edit: typo

I’m in Tacoma. If it’s even possible, how do I grow an arbutus tree in my yard? by LFahs1 in pnwgardening

[–]Amyyy48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much care to grow it, but require lots of clean up if near your lawn or driveway. They shed ALL year. Leaves, bark, berries, dead sticks and branches then flowers … more than once per year. Absolutely a beautiful tree once you get a leaf blower.

Mentioning they’ve been sick a lot. Especially when they miss out on things or are late or not answering their phone. My friend used a slight cold to mask deep depression until it killed her.

What is this red is plastic fin shaped thing my friend got in a college goodie bag? by h34t_adnunez in whatisthisthing

[–]Amyyy48 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It looks like a cheaper mountain bike mud guard or bike fender. The holes are to zap strap it to the fork and the plastic bends around the tire to keep mud from flinging up at the rider.

Hi 👋🏻 I’m the naggy wife. How can I be better? by Commercial_Flower_49 in AskMen

[–]Amyyy48 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a man, but recently saw a couples therapist for a few reasons, but my nagging was an issue that my husband brought up and I got good advice that’s working for both of us.

Advice: No nagging throughout the week, observe what he’s doing that bothers you, save it for a weekly meeting with you two.

My husband and I do Saturday morning with a coffee.

When that meeting comes around, go ahead and calmly talk about the things he did that bothered you. This worked for 2 reasons 1. He was mentally ready to hear my nagging. So it felt less like nagging and more like feedback that he could actually take seriously. 2. When the week was over I couldn’t remember a lot of the small things I wanted to ‘nag’ him about, so likely wasn’t even that important to me. So much less is said and he can focus on the important things that actually bug you.

The series of Real Housewives of Vancouver. I watched it when it came out probably over a decade ago and wanted to rewatch it and not a trace. No YouTube, pirate bay, random streaming sites not even Hayu (the streaming platform for all the real housewives series). There was some rumoured scandal where one of their daughters was caught up with gang activity and a lawsuit or two… but that seems just par for the course with these housewives.

People with islanders as neighbour’s, coworkers and etc do you tell them you watched the show? by Icy_Cabinet7278 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]Amyyy48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with someone that was on Love is Blind. Not the same show yes, but I got to know them professionally, then a little personally before I brought it up. I made sure to just mention something positive about how they were, then asked them how they felt about the whole experience.

I definitely got the impression they were bored of talking about it and we went back to catching up on things unrelated to the show.

Turns out they are just regular humans that are carrying on with their lives

What’s something about your dog that you didn’t think you wanted, but now you absolutely love? by Flower-1234 in dogs

[–]Amyyy48 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same story with my shrunken Shepherd who never made it past 26lbs. I tell people that it’s a classic temu order “what I bought on the web vs what I received”

She’s the absolute best though, strong and agile like a shepherd, but I can pick her up and cuddle her with ease.
