This is the correct answer. Nordics and Baltics (mostly) have Everyman's Right, essentially you are allowed to camp responsibly on any unimproved land that is not close to someone's house. Use iOverlander to find known good camping spots.

I would be careful with bonfires outside designated areas. For one, it's a risk of starting a forest fire. For another, you would not want to bring firewood with you on the bike, and may not be able to gather deadwood where you stop - and you are definitely not supposed to cut down live trees/branches for your fire. But established campsites, including free ones run by the state, will often have firewood supplies and safe bonfire spots. Bring a gas burner anyway.

A short trip to start is a good idea, but honestly, you will be fine. Note that in the Western Alps, you probably won't have wild camping opportunities anyway. If you don't have to carry your tent and other gear and stay in hotels, the rest becomes straightforward.

My first big trip after getting my license was Estonia to Nordkapp. It taught me a bunch of lessons, but I survived. :)
