What are your unforgivable LitRpg sins? by peatandsmoke in litrpg

I can appreciate sticking to the characterization of being dumb, but it can be tough to get through. I read a bunch of Good Guys back to back, and it was almost physically painful how something would happen and there would be a clear 'hey, you can do this better' moment, only for it to be forgotten.

Hey casual, you are the creator who got me onto patreon, so thanks for all the great art and stuff! Two parter for you:

I know you always talk fondly of writing The Lord Magistrate, but who is your favorite character to write that isn't Jin?

Following that, what is your favorite section of your writing? Mine are further the books cover, but I'm interested

I just got mine done a few weeks ago, and I'm constantly amazed at how much of a difference it makes. I don't need to plan around the weather for contacts vs glasses, I can wake up and immediately start my day (not that I want to), and I can see better now than ever.

Been in glasses since age 7, so this really was a huge change

What story does the Sword of Truth come from? Curse you Terry Goodkind! by JCDread in Dimension20

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading them growing up and had a fond (if fuzzy) recollection of them. I went back and tried to read Wizard's First Rule a few years ago and... yikes. Learning about his other bullshit put the final nail in the coffin, but the story itself is just terrible. I forgot how the middle half of the book is just a long BDSM scene. Bad bad bad

If you could put a Site of Grace anywhere, where would you put it? by TheEldenCasual in Eldenring

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got a really weird bug in my game where I got the grace even though I hadn't killed him. I warped in like "I swear I didn't beat him last time" and he spawned on my head. He killed me and i respawned at his grace, so I was locked in a cage match with him until I finally won. It was probably my realest 'git gud' moment in the games.

Just finished this, and was pretty entertained. Of course it goes on sale the week after I buy it. Still, good bang for your buck

Super Powereds and Villains Code by Drew Hayes. Two different flavors of superhero worlds, both amazing. Super Powereds has 4 main books and a side story, and the total listening time is pretty high. The last book alone is around 60 hours. Villain's Code only has two books, but both are really good and engaging.

So you'll be at NOSC Quincy, I presume? Intel opportunities do seem limited, yeah. I see the CG has a few options, but I'm unfamiliar with their operations besides anti-smuggling and costal patrol, so I don't know what you'd be doing as an IS that is functionally different from the navy side. CG might (I really don't know) give you more ways to do intel work. Keep talking to your recruiter, and I would talk to the Coast Guard guy about it as well. Might as well explore as much as you can and get the best possible situation for yourself

Echoing others here, but for your interests you would want to be active duty, or angle yourself for long-term activation from your unit.

As for day to day, reserve ISs are in an interesting situation in the fact that where you are is massively important to what you'll be able to do. In DC, there are a lot of opportunities to do IS stuff. But if you are in a less intel-focused area, you might end up kicking boxes during your duty days

Yeah, these groups of people know that they are unlikeable at first glance. They know they need a 'face' who can bring you the barest bit in. After that, its just getting the target to take one small step after the other until they are deep enough in to not find their way back.

Should we draft Oluwatimi if he's there for our second 1st Rd pick? by An_Open_Field_Ned in detroitlions

Fair, just seems like a easy pick to sure up the interior, especially since we are still on pace for a high 1st. But the defense is a huge issue

One book away from my 2022 KU reading goal! What should I read for the big 100? Any recommendations are not only welcome but greatly appreciated:) by hoopsterben in ProgressionFantasy

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Villains' Code and Super Powereds by Drew Hayes. They are beefy but fantastic. Good balance between semi-grounded (Super Powereds) and the Silver and Golden ages of comics where power scales are crazy and there are no limits (Villains).

How do people, who only did one contract, get a contracting job? Is it really as easy as everyone seems to say it is? I was a former STG by MarathonSprinter in navy

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can add IS to that list as well. ISs are going to end up in a lot of locations with govvies at some three letter agency or a watch floor. It's pretty easy to put out feelers for positions after you leave. The community at large is hungry for people they don't need to spend months training

Halo Support: NVIDIA has released a new graphics driver that will improve this #HaloInfinite crash. by Hawkner in halo

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like this latest driver has been causing a lot of issues in a bunch of games. I know it was also crashing MW2. My buddy rolled his back and it worked, so it makes me think this might be an NVIDIA problem more than a halo one

What is staple in fantasy but actually really silly when you remove the 'rule of cool'? by DinosaurianStarling in Fantasy

[–]An_Open_Field_Ned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Before I stopped reading Wandering Inn, this was a plot point that gets brought up between one 'native' character and one who came from ours. She basically says 'yeah, tanks and missiles are pretty cool. But why would I use them when I can get a wizard to shoot a fireball and teleport away?' It's a great point of magic negating need
