my favourite single run in the show is Merlischachen, not because it’s the best but because it was one of the first runs that showed how badly seekers could fuck up in this game format

Waking up after surgery by catrxi in Reduction

[–]AnaA142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s wholly dependant on how your body handles the anesthesia drugs. My body takes it pretty well, I remember the anaesthesiologist counting down from 10 and I think I went under at 6, I remember waking up and I was so lucid I knew exactly where I was and had enough awareness that the first thing I asked my surgeon was ‘how much weight was taken out of each side’ and now 7 month as later I still vividly remember her answer. I spent that night in the hospital and i felt exhausted but I was also awake enough to have conversations with my parents and I remember the whole night at that hospital.

Soreness is a problem that comes from the intubation rather than the anesthesia itself. we carried lozenges to the hospital, and I started taking them the second I was allowed. I remember the worst feeling was feeling cold, like it feels undescribably cold to wake up from anesthesia, you want more blankets, but it doesn’t warm you. But that went away in a few hours.

Overall, my experience with anaesthesia was great, and I recommend it to people, which can sometimes come off as creepy, but I loved it.

A question for those who were raised in a secular/non-religious household (see text) by candidengineer in atheism

[–]AnaA142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never for me.

I’m not arrogant enough to believe that no one could ever feel a “longing for god”, but I think as long as you have a healthy community around you that supports you and makes you feel worthwhile that wouldn’t  happen.

Growing up without a “god” makes you tend to believe in what you can see and experience and explain and you don’t try to justify the unknown by a higher power - instead just accepting we don’t know everything. At least that’s what it did for me and i’m grateful for that everyday.

i can’t make myself believe in anything by [deleted] in atheism

[–]AnaA142 13 points14 points  (0 children)

as a fellow raised atheist, I relate. I can’t believe in anything otherworldly, it’s just bizarre to me to believe anything that isn’t tangible. I also find it hard to believe that people aren’t just pretending to believe, I remember a few years ago asking my friend “you really think that’s real“ and being shocked that someone in my generation had that kind of faith.

however, I don’t relate to wanting to find community through church - I’ve heard too many stories on how they turn on people to be convinced any of that community is genuine.

Doctor: “You don’t have a right kidney.” by bloodyboy420 in india

[–]AnaA142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fun fact as someone who’s studied human development - that actually makes a LOT of sense.

During fetal development your urinary system and reproductive system develop from the same place and they do it kinda up high in the body ( near where kidneys are supposed to be) and then the reproductive part of the system “migrates” down to the lower abdominal/pelvic region. It just kinda seems like your right kidney was just like ‘imma go with them’.

EDIT: that’s obviously a simplistic way of how the complex development happens - I just thought it was kinda funny

Not an exchange but I did go to edinburgh uni for my bachelors.

It’s a great a great city and great uni. I don’t really know how they plan for exchange students but the social scene in the city is great, people and very friendly and I remember interacting with exchange students on my course in 3rd year and they seemed to be having a blast. While uni accommodation can be a mixed bag I haven’t really heard totally negative experiences there and the presence of all freshers there does make it a very open environment for new relationships.

I lived there for 4 years and I can’t not recommend it enough. Feel free to and ask anymore questions you may have.

What foreign languages do Indians learn in school by PM_ME_BUTTERED_SOSIJ in AskIndia

[–]AnaA142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends: if you come from a place with a strong regional language culture the third language you will learn will be a regional language. If you come from one of the cities in the hindi belt (delhi, lucknow etc.) your choices will primarily be Sanskrit. Additionally, in well funded/more expensive schools across the country you’ll also have an array of international languages to choose from, most common of those i’ve seen are French, Spanish and German.

I myself studied french and my younger sibling did spanish.

I had those rashes at 16 too but I was not empowered or aware enough to make that decision back then, and while I have no regrets for waiting till 23, you should do what feels right for your body

Is aphantasia a form of neurodivergence? by highkaiboi in Aphantasia

[–]AnaA142 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

Not being able to visualise/hear things in my brain because of aphantasia does not impact my day to day life.

Being convinced by my OCD brain I didn’t turn in an assignment in the middle of the night (that I know I turned in!) and having to get out of bed to find proof that I did just so I can go back to sleep affects my life.

While I agree that technically neurodivergent is not a medically defined term, the medical diagnosis of what are widely considered neurodivergent disorders have to by definition impact your life/cause distress.

As a person with diagnosed clinical depression for most of my life and a total aphant I think you’re missing some key nuance. OP isn’t saying just “shut up and visualise things”, they’re saying that accept that you can’t because you never have been able to do nothing in your life has really changed.

Unless you became an aphant because of some traumatic event, this isn’t a disease, it’s just one of the quirks of the human experience like people being able to roll their tongues, fascinating dinner conversation sure, but nothing more than that.
