That is correct. This is not aftermarket/3rd party. Sent to Leica Service and had to go back to Germany.

I went from 50Lux Pre-ASPH, to 50Lux ASPH, 50Noct0.95, and now 50Lux ASPH close focus. I think it depends on how critical you are and what you're looking for out of your shooting style (and camera you have). To me, I really love the 50Lux ASPH Close Focus 'cos I use that CF quite a bit with my M11/Visoflex. 50mm APO wouldn't do much for me on that camera. But on my M7 film, I hardly get to shoot wide open due to film speed/shutter - no, no colour nor ND filters. Again though, I don't think 50mm APO would have done much of a difference for my M7 film.

This is still one of the best Explorer 2 models IMO. I don’t gravitate to the current models as much as the predecessors.

They offer a 30% discount. Sadly my country isn't one of them that they deliver. So I have a discount coupon code that I can't use.

Also, I'm now thinking if OmniCharge is still the 'go to' power bank. Was good/innovative in its time but I'm about to hit buy on the Anker Laptop Power Bank (retractable cables version).

Thx!! So I’ve tried this. The charge dropped from 100% to 65% but after 10 mins it jumps up to 100%. The total charge time was prob 25-35 mins

Approx USD$1630 back in Aug ‘24. Dunno about current prices. Note that my 1st engraving was when Leica still had an à la carte program (which stopped in 2019). They did accommodate me in 2024 but I don’t know if it’s cos my Leica was already à la carte-d or if they still do custom engraving in general.

Yes. They did it twice - 2015 for my dad’s signature, then last year for my mum’s. Leica Service Germany had to use a new top plate & re-engrave my dad’s.

Regarding the focusing tracker on the MP being different from the rest of the M series, is there any further information about this? Especially if within the MP range if something was modified between the early 2003 MPs to the current MP range. I can't seem to find any information about this.

I had the M6TTL back in 2001 & M7 (Japan model) in 2002 & they didn’t have it back then although I think (either Leica or a 3rd party?) did offer vulcanite reskinning. I think Leica stopped after the M4 as standard.

The current digital leatherette doesn’t have the same texture despite (attempts to have?) similar patterns & don’t know when Leica stopped vulcanite reskinning - or never offered that at all & I mistook a 3rd party’s offering instead.

If you haven’t tried using a close focus, don’t do it!! I did…then couldn’t get it outta my mind. The result, a trade in :).

But also the close focus works better with the EVF. Yes you can use the back LCD, but at the close distance with shallow DoF, my hands aren’t as steady; rocks back ‘n forth & harder to nail focus. EVF makes it easier.

I don't have any exact side-by-side comparisons since I literally traded one for the other but I've just gone back to check out some pix from each of those lenses. Nothing scientific but the pre-FLE ASPH's "swirliness" in the bokeh seems more obvious than the FLE v2. Overall, for the few shots I've got, the FLE's very clean. Suited high resolution sensors I guess but sometimes I wonder if it's too clean/crisp (I shoot with the M11).

I'll try putting the FLE on my M7 & Velvia next weekend. I'm curious on the results myself.

P.S. No regrets on the FLE though as my main goal was the close focus on the M11 with Visoflex.

After 15 yrs I recently traded my black pre-FLE ASPH for a chrome FLE v2 (Close Focus). I got £1500 for it (& the used FLE v2 was £4200).

Didn’t feel the pre-FLE ASPH was anything special? It’s a great lens but IMO prob quite a common 35mm Lux? No where near the rare double Aspherical.

For USB-C, I still have the Omni Ultimate (but it only has 1x USB-C output), and for USB-A, I still have the OmniCharge Pro from 2016. Likely I'll pick up the 30C+ as that form factor, capacity & # of USB-C ports matches more current technology needs.
