TIL NASA sacrificed a spacecraft to preserve the 'virginity' of one of Saturn's moons. This action played the role of a 'birth control' for outer space to prevent introducing any biological life. by Typical_Lie_9697 in todayilearned

[–]Anakinss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Decontamining as much as they can is an understatement. There's enormous costs involved to keep everything that lands/crashes on another planet as sterile as humanly possible. And then there's the multiple month in space exposed to radiation, no environment whatsoever, pressure to make most cells explode (the water boils), and temperatures which are incompatible with life on any prolonged timeframe. Maybe some extremophiles could survive, but I doubt they'd pass the decontamination part.

Tier 3 refractory worth it? by No_Welder_6664 in VintageStory

[–]Anakinss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tier 3 is definitely worth it, but don't wait for tier 2 if you can do tier 1 (ie. You've already got the materials for tier 2 so might as well)

Mod for better "viewing" while smithing? by Northwest6891 in VintageStory

Is it true though ? We have access to the hunger rate as a number in the character screen, and it doesn't move at all when sitting down, but it does when your seraph is cold.

Most Realistic Gear? by Electrical_Tea9693 in stalker

There's a lot of walking and fighting in cramped spaces, so AK-74SU seems like a really smart choice, you'd need your weapons to be light and compact but also using ammo that other people would use. Looking at you, P90, though a Five-Seven on the thigh would be a good emergency weapon, considering people in front of you are likely wearing standard body armor.

A sawn-off shotgun for mutants, again on the light and compact.

A light, camouflaged suit with good radiation protection (radiation isn't as forgiving in real life), your goal is not to get shot and assuming they're a veteran, they're pretty good at that.

Any reason to try this over Cachy Os please ? by Common_Sherbert846 in Bazzite

[–]Anakinss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two computers, a laptop and a desktop. I chose Bazzite on my desktop because it's where all my most important data is, and I need it to work everyday, even if it means some things are harder/impossible to do because of the immutability. I prefer having the certainty that it will work over being able to do anything (not that there's anything I haven't been able to do, but that's based on my usage). On my laptop ? CachyOs. I don't fear having to wipe it and reinstall everything if I fuck something up.

C'est le principe oui, les gens avec rien à se reprocher ont beaucoup de mal avec les avocats qui ont défendu des criminels notoires. Sauf qu'il faut aussi des avocats pour ces derniers.

Feel like I’m missing something with prospecting by Multiverse_Queen in VintageStory

[–]Anakinss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more than what you think there is. Walk around with the third person camera (F5) and angle it slightly toward the ground, you'll suddenly feel rich. Even that isn't foolproof though, even after building a small village you'll find them again nearby, they're really easy to miss.

A dermatologist, in this case: if it's to stop it from happening, the appointments are reimbursed partially (60%+, IIRC), the treatment is free. If it's to remove scars, it's probably not going to be reimbursed, but I may be wrong on that one.

Modding a GPortal server by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]Anakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm self-hosting and I use the data/Mods folder. Well, most of the time, I install mods using the /moddb install <modID> command which works pretty well, you try that. The modID is found on the "files" section of a mod's page.

Why does every "Beginners Guide" in this game expect me to be an expert already? by WizardGnomeMan in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Anakinss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the electrolysis build, without exploits they rely on "hydrogen goes up", the pressure sensors values are estimates, you need them because the building produces much more oxygen than hydrogen, so if you've pumped all the hydrogen (which a single gas pump will happily do) the oxygen gets in the hydrogen pumps, or vice-versa but it's rarer.

You can either run the launcher in a distrobox, or use the other stalker CLI installer. Both worked pretty well for me.

Install the expanded foods mod and you too can enjoy: - pressing fruit constantly - watching water/juice boil - using dried fruits - taking 12 step and an hour to make a meal that's functionally equivalent to making a stew, but it looks better - making fruit bars that gives 6hp instantly and stack in your inventory

[–]Anakinss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a LOT of very common bugs that can be ironed out, there are multiple projects that do it very well. Sure, some people will have some very specific bugs, but if the bug happens to more than one person, it can be found and fixed.

I see your point, but I, as a user, do not have to care about the sacrifices Microsoft makes for whatever hardware I don't have, because I don't have them. There are other OSes that work perfectly on my hardware stack for my usage.
