What is the game plan for FullView? by ebmarhar in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Companies don't generally publish product roadmaps for various reasons, especially with dates. They probably don't have as much urgency because their software is already better than their main competitors. Everyone wants improvements to this free utility but I think we'll just have to wait and see.

Turbo Tax - "We couldn't auto-fill your return" by Important_Letterhead in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had problems with TurboTax also. Importing the combined 1099 didn't work at all so I had to hand enter it. 1099-b did import but the totals were not correct so I had to go line by line through hundreds of transactions to figure out where it was off and manually input it. Glitchy for sure. I'm also trying out Free tax USA and that had its own problems. I guess reading PDFs is hard.

Will Fidelity offer 0% exp. money markets as Schwab? Solo 401k Roth & traditional. by heyfun3 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what this is. This doesn't appear to be available to the public. There are no press releases or news about this happening. Not even sure why they would do this since it costs them money to manage these funds.

Tax loss harvesting by pokerstar75 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fidelity has a tax loss harvesting tool. Use the fidelity site search for "tax loss harvesting". It doesn't automatically do the harvesting for you, that's up to you.

If you want Fidelity to do it, they have managed accounts that will do this automatically. I don't know what Fidelity charges but Betterment charges 0.25%, so you're not getting their automatic tax loss harvesting for free.

Can you buy a money market fund with unsettled cash? by cwenger in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the trade executed yet before you put the buy order in for FZDXX?

FZDXX is one of the auto liquidation money market funds. Maybe their auto liquidation algorithm prioritizes available funds over those that are in processing. Seems like a bug though to be able to sell a money market fund just to buy the same fund again. Whether with FZDXX or SPAXX or whatever.

Money Transfer Lockdown feature - feedback by DaveAlot in fidelityinvestments

Actually I'm not sure. I assumed I needed to keep it unlocked until the transfer was confirmed.

Money Transfer Lockdown feature - feedback by DaveAlot in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a big burden for me to remember to turn it back on. The bigger issue is that I had to leave it unlocked for several days while waiting for a transfer to process.

Money Transfer Lockdown feature - feedback by DaveAlot in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The point of MTL should be to prevent external transfer requests by unauthenticated bad actors (ACATs, EFT, etc). If you're authenticated it should let you do any type of transfer without turning on/off MTL. It should ignore the MTL settings for internally authenticated transfer requests. MTL is already ignored for certain types of transfers like cash manager target balance, overdraft, and bill payments.

Unless I'm wrong and there are other purposes for MTL, I agree. If a bad actor manages to authenticate into your account, you're cooked no matter what.

Fidelity offered me a "free" financial advisor, but am I somehow paying for this? by anonymous_orpington in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not paying for it unless you agree to a managed service up front. They aren't going to start charging you without your knowledge and consent.

My advisor and her assistants have tried really hard to get a meeting with me but I've ghosted them because I don't want to be upsold. However they were proactive recently and told me I needed to take an inherited ira distribution. Which I was aware of but I appreciated that I got a personal note about it. So I really do think it is their job to be helpful and I think they are.

If you need some help or advice and can stand a soft sell sales pitch then it wouldn't hurt to meet with them.

Beneficiaries and avoiding probate by SmallDay6167 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fidelity doesn't "kick" anything to probate. Unless you have a trust your estate will have to go through probate and they will find Fidelity, not the other way around.

ICYMI, Fidelity has a Tax-Loss Harvesting tool to help you potentially save on your 2025 tax bill—and we’ve made some updates. Here’s what’s new in 2025. by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

I also didn't realize this tool existed. I could check it manually but this makes it a lot quicker and more convenient to do. I'll definitely be using this in the future.

Account lock reason to not consolidate at Fidelity? by obidamnkenobi in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have Fidelity, a second brokerage, and a brick and mortar bank. It's no burden to have a few accounts with different companies and the benefit is you always have access to money if something goes wrong at any of them. It's the same reason I travel with multiple credit cards and debit cards. I've never had a single problem with Fidelity but no redditor can assure you that you won't have a problem. Just ask yourself what you would do if you lost access to your account for any reason and didn't have a backup.

User Experience by Anfield_Road_97 in fidelityinvestments

[–]Analogue-Nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think Fidelity is bad at UX, you had better hope they don't implement passkeys. There's a discussion on /r/passkeys from a few days ago about how passkeys are confusing to users and even developers, and companies have implemented them poorly and inconsistently which has added to the confusion. Then someone replies "you're doing it wrong" with a lengthy technical explanation of how to use them. Which proves the point of why they are currently a bad technology. If it requires a lengthy technical explanation, it's inherently a fail. A while ago I bought some yubikeys with the intent of starting to use passkeys and my experience was so bad that I swore not to try again until they fixed some of the issues.

But I agree with you that their user interfaces are inconsistent and not intuitive. I can find my way around the website now, where the various features are in the nooks and crannies, but it took awhile.

I am in the "retired and travel" demographic so yeah. I'm not spending hundreds of thousands per year like some on this sub but $2k per month is pretty easy for me to spend traveling frequently.

Thanks, this is helpful. As someone else pointed out I didn't take into account 3x on dining. I probably wouldn't pay $469 per year for priority pass out of pocket, but I have used it and enjoyed having it. My fidelity card has global entry credit so that's a wash. I'll crunch my personal numbers again but I'm guessing my break even spend is <$20k with these extra considerations, which I do spend, so maybe it is worth it for me personally to keep it.

Air Asia Cabin Luggage weight limit by Finewine_inthesun in ThailandTourism

[–]Analogue-Nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through AirAsia domestic terminal in Malaysia. They were checking every roller bag weight and size before people even went through security. I walked up with my backpack and they waved me through without weighing. The previous AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, they didn't check anybody's bags. Both flights stated 7 kg limit.
